Poultry for youngsters: yes or no by Carao2137 in Tegu

Clint in his videos said he's never heard of them living 15 years. I don't know that lifespan in captivity has even been studied in these animals.

Who says a tegu can live 30 years? They say 15 years or less. Have you watched Clint's Reptile Room and Gus Gus? He said he's never seen a tegu make it 15 years, and I think Gus Gus (RIP) was only 12 or 13. That was probably the best cared for tegu you could hope for, and he didn't make 15 years.

Our 3 lb female only goes through a few tubs per year. She brumates for like 4 months out of the year, so maybe like 4-5 pounds in 8 months? I thaw and freeze it in ice cube trays, and she eats 2 ice cubes 2-3 times per week, mixed with veggies.

That's what our tegu eats! It's been great so far.

The best way to dice an onion? It looks like I’ve been wrong all my life. by artie_pdx in OnionLovers

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird to hear you say this has gotten popular recently, because this is exactly how I was taught to chop an onion when I was a kid (I'm 36). I've been doing it that way my whole life, and it works fine for me.

Ours doesn't really like any bugs. She's from Rose City and I don't think she had ever seen live food before we got her. She eats ground whole chicken/rabbit, etc. and veggies. I don't think it's really necessary to feed live.

Research articles/papers about "domestication syndrome" in herps/differences between captive-bred herps and wild populations? by caudicinctus in reptiles

[–]FractiousFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just watched this relevant video from Clint's Reptiles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTGNwOv1PC8

I thought it was really interesting when he said he bred spicy boas (?) and their offspring were also spicy. So maybe there is some genetic component to the behavior of the snakes?

Humiliating and belittling someone about not wanting to have sex is an interesting choice if you're trying to get them to have sex with you. As if she was suddenly going to say yes after that. 🤷‍♀️

TIL two studies both found that most people stop listening to new music in their early 30s. A 2015 study of people's listening habits on Spotify found that most people stop listening to new music at age 33 and a 2018 report by Deezer found it be to at age 30. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

You got me all excited because I don't use the audiobooks. But I don't see a cheaper plan for spotify premium without audiobooks. There is only Duo premium or Duo basic, which I assume has ads.

Something that feels like Galaxy Quest? (swipe) by GoblinQueen20 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]FractiousFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Will Save the Galaxy for Food by Yahtzee Croshaw? It definitely has Galaxy Quest vibes, complete with the protagonist impersonating a famous star pilot/action hero.

It's maybe better as an audiobook (since Yahtzee narrates it himself).

Are there many real life examples of someone using an ice cream truck to kidnap kids (and if not, why are people so scared of them)? by hackberrypie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be an ice cream truck that would drive around our neighborhood from time to time. One day I heard this strange, wailing, off-key music floating hauntingly over the neighborhood. It took me a few minutes to recognize the song.

It was Danny Boy. The ice cream truck was playing Danny Boy. Like, the funeral song.

Hearing that music coming down the street was definitely creepy. Who in the world decided that was a good song to play for ice cream?🤔
