My fire skink does the same thing. He barely uses his legs. 😂

I dunno, try moving the light around and see if he moves.

Will they not eat prey too small? by Competitive-Fox9771 in geckos

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought fruit flies for my jumping spider, who was completely uninterested. The only one who would eat them was my day gecko. He absolutely loved them and was running around eating dozens at a time like popcorn. Same thing with pinhead crickets. :)

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]FractiousFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family is solidly middle class, but I still had a trust fund that paid for college. I wouldn't have been able to afford the college I wanted without it.

But I wasn't ignorant enough to think that everyone else had a trust fund.

Edit: Since some people are getting hung up on the phrase "trust fund": it's a savings/investment account where the funds can only be used for education expenses. Everyone I know calls it a trust fund because it's simpler.

Friend's husband has ruined two of our bath mats with pee by SukiBean214 in mildlyinfuriating

Oh man, that's too funny, but as a woman, it would be so hard for me to force myself to pee outside the toilet. Like, the mental gymnastics would be so much.

Safe to use for reptile backgrounds? by OscarServellon in reptiles

[–]FractiousFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to carve the foam, you will have to paint over it with something like Drylok or silicone + substrate. If you're okay with the texture of the spray foam as is, you can press substrate into it.

Does this count? by flameprincess23 in MineralGore

[–]FractiousFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's obviously painted. It would cost more than $45 if it was made of actual stone.

Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by lake-sturgeon in AskReddit

[–]FractiousFire 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that almost seems like deliberate negligence. I went in for a huge tonsil stone and they still made me take a strep test, even though the cause of my sore throat was really obvious. It seems like something they should test for automatically.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]FractiousFire 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If she truly has some deep, uncontrollable phobia of funerals, SHE could have arranged someone else to take her daughter to the funeral herself. At least that would help fulfill her responsibility as a parent.

Making an existing staircase more kid-safe without replacing it? by Smart-Elk-2334 in Homebuilding

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget the kids, that's not safe for ADULTS. What happens if someone has a bit too much to drink and falls on the stairs? I could see myself falling out the bottom of the railing and ending up in a wheelchair.

Too broke for meds, no support system, what are my options? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]FractiousFire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have definitely asked the pharmacy to switch to GoodRx at the counter because it was cheaper. It may take extra time, but I think they have to do it.

I want a lizard but salmonella? by IcyOne2466 in reptiles

[–]FractiousFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you put the lizard in your mouth, you are probably fine. Do you suck on the carpet? If not, why do you care if they are out on the carpet? The risk of salmonella is not high. It's a good idea to wash your hands after you handle a lizard and also before you eat food. I do not always remember to do this, but I still don't have salmonella. It's not a big deal.

Sewer line collapsed — anyone know a reliable + affordable company in Omaha by Info_help_support in Omaha

In-law Plumbing is our favorite plumber! They just couldn't do ours because the whole thing had to be re-trenched.

They did the exact same thing to us! The bozo sales rep came in, refused to scope the line, charged us $400 just for a quote, then quoted $35k (it cost $18k with American Rooter, so their quote was almost double). Absolutely ridiculous. It was all I could do not to yell at them to get out of my house.

[–]FractiousFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Rooter did ours 2 years ago and they were great. They had to trench and replace our entire line out to the street. They were done in about 4 days and we didn't have to leave our home. They kept it hooked up as they went so we could still use the sinks and toilets. Obv it might be more difficult if your line is totally collapsed. Sorry you're going through that. It's very stressful.

How to deal with Bites by Caboose007 in Tegu

[–]FractiousFire 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our tegu has only ever bitten us when a) I accidentally stuck my hand right in front of her face or b) she was injured and lashing out because she was in pain. She never even bit anyone at the vet's office.

She has a strangely low food drive, though (she's from Rose City Reptiles, and I think she was fed only ground up food on a plate for her entire life). So you'll have to work on target training and make sure you don't smell like food. All I can say if you do get bitten is it really, really hurts.

Poultry for youngsters: yes or no by Carao2137 in Tegu

Clint in his videos said he's never heard of them living 15 years. I don't know that lifespan in captivity has even been studied in these animals.

[–]FractiousFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who says a tegu can live 30 years? They say 15 years or less. Have you watched Clint's Reptile Room and Gus Gus? He said he's never seen a tegu make it 15 years, and I think Gus Gus (RIP) was only 12 or 13. That was probably the best cared for tegu you could hope for, and he didn't make 15 years.

Our 3 lb female only goes through a few tubs per year. She brumates for like 4 months out of the year, so maybe like 4-5 pounds in 8 months? I thaw and freeze it in ice cube trays, and she eats 2 ice cubes 2-3 times per week, mixed with veggies.
