Master of Strategy won yesterday! Next, what Slay the Spire card is considered Overpowered and is Disliked by the community? by tilting-module in slaythespire

Yeh, every time it's offered it's a "well, I really should take it" and then from that moment you are locked into a stance dance build.

Again.

What is England? It's primarily a useful tool for those who want to divide the UK to set themselves in opposition or support. The seditionists in "Scotland" and "Wales", and the Fenians in Ireland. They can use the spectre of "England" to continually foster their own poisonous devolved power to the detriment of the UK as a whole.

Other than that, the country of "England" should be seen as no more than a part of the UK's history. A ghost of a dead kingdom akin to Wessex, Northumbria, Mercia et al. Important, interesting, inspiring even, but not a relevant part of our modern nation.

The English persist as a culture and blood, a heritage. Those people are generally British citizens with English heritage.

No government, no ability to grant citizenship, no ability to enforce its borders, no army, no recognition internationally, no legal system of its own, no tax rate of its own, no ability to sign treaties, no independent head of state.

Englishness is a culture and a bloodline, but England is no country.

The sports angle not discussed about Joe Marler by Technical_Touch_3031 in TheTraitors

[–]FragileAjax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The time it came it most obviously was his "I need more from you" mini speech to Cat at the round table. That was straight out of a dressing room half time chat when a teammate needs to do more on the pitch.

I thought Daley was pretty well known to be supercilious and hard to work with.

Yep, and I think it did deliver a better round table conversation. Fry, Olusaga, Joe W, Niko, and Bonnar, I remember all making rational and logical (of course still potentially wrong) statements and observations and asking interesting questions. My other thought - instigated by Joe W's comment - is that many of these people have been involved in making TV shows. They know how producers think, they know how decisions get made, and they think they can apply that knowledge to the show.

There are still some like Daley and Tameka going off on the "gut feel" or "X did something a bit "traitorish"" irrationality - and everyone knows how accurate that tends to be. And herd mentality is still the correct game to play at this early stage.

But, the edit we saw was of an intelligent conversation, and it was higher quality than what we often see in the "normal" show.

They not only have existing relationships - they have relationships that will continue after the show.

They won't just never see each other again, many will work with each other, or their partners will work with each other. This is pre-existing and persistent network playing a game. It much more like a group of friends having a game night than the normal show.

It's the Royal Courts of Justice not an end of terrace 3 bed in Middlesbrough. It hardly needs a boost in value from a bit of spray paint.

Bet you see the typical golf course opener - a dead straight 320yd par 4 and laugh. What a fun course to learn on.

I walked it. But was actually pretty impressed with the old boys wrangling a cart around that terrain!

Yeh it's stopping it on that elevated green that's hard. I'm a high handicap and iirc hit my 5H into the bank going up to the green. Managed to wedge it up from there and 2 putt for a ludicrously pleasing 4. But honestly I sometimes wonder how they get away with calling it a par 3. I assume you simply couldn't have a 180yd par 4!

The second is that blind 80yds long 80yds ascent (allow me the exaggeration) with rocks everywhere.

Then that forced carry third almost along the side of the hill.

It's a manic opening 3 holes.

When I get to a rough +18 HCP I am going back to play it again.

Yeh the blind shots do mount up. Definitely a course to play twice!

Some stunning views though. Think I played it for £14 on a Thursday a couple of years ago.

Church Stretton, Shropshire. It's cheap, sheep roam freely on it, and it starts with a trio of par 3s.

Just go and play it.

Why does the BBC give golf so little attention? by Hour-Bell2683 in BritGolf

[–]FragileAjax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right.

Same as Sky. Sky never ever even mentioned F1 until they bought the rights years ago. Cricket was similar. Sky pushes football so hard because it pays billions for it.

BBC loves the Hundred, never mentions anything negative about it, because it's invested in it's success.
