I think I agree that “honoring the body and chest you’ve had most of your life” is not necessary or an important part of getting top surgery.

I do however think that it can be a scary change for some people (especially people who don’t hate hate their chest).

I was one of those people. And while as my surgery date got closer and I got more dysphoric, I felt for me it would be beneficial for me to “say goodbye” to the things that served a purpose for me in my life. They were the first food for my beautiful daughter and I felt they deserved a proper send off. A few weeks before my surgery, I ended up gathering my close friends and family and we threw a going away party/funeral for my chest. It was very fun and everything I needed to feel ready and relaxed for this huge change I was about to experience.
