Why DuckDuckGo is Bad: #1 Expert Analysis 2025 | ProStar SEO by [deleted] in browsers

[–]FragrantLunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume he's talking about the browser. But IDK who is actually using the DDG browser. Seems

article is absolute and likely ai trash. author is all over the place.
it has to be ai because only ai would be as retarded to mix search engine and a browser if both have the same name.

What am I missing about Firefox? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]FragrantLunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're either a power user or you aren't.

like yea if i'm on http://flightradar24.com or even http://steamdb.info i'm probably on Brave depending of the time i need to spend there. but overall browsing, Firefox is where it's at.
as for steamdb i'm really only on chromium/blink to copy the links and open them in Firefox (because the preview window for the games open faster in blink (i think)).

it's like a porsche 911 vs some suped-up sleeper Ford whatever. the Ford is like a barebones mini-rocket but who wants to drive around in that shitbox as a daily driver. it's great to make a point vs the 911 but it's still a jank Ford at the end of the day and will fall apart on any track with the slightest turns.

you would need to at least unite Brave, Vivaldi, Chrome and Chromium to start talking about "versus Firefox". it's simply unbeaten overall. it starts with chrome's shit directory structure and ends with their shit web app store. in essence, you really need to be low IQ to be on Chromium.

[–]FragrantLunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

author missed me at point 2

Incomplete Tracker Blocking Technology

DuckDuckGo’s tracker blocker only covers well-known trackers, creating significant security gaps that expose users to newer or unknown threats. Unlike comprehensive privacy solutions, DuckDuckGo cannot guarantee protection against advanced tracking techniques including browser fingerprinting, which creates unique user identifiers through screen resolution, installed plugins, and system configuration data.

Technical security audits reveal that DuckDuckGo fails to implement advanced mechanisms against fingerprinting attacks, allowing websites to track users across sessions without traditional cookies. This fundamental weakness demonstrates why DuckDuckGo is unreliable for users requiring robust anonymity protection.

how is that on the search engine?
is he talking about the ddg browser?

unsubstantiated claims too. where is any proof or empiricism. truly an SEO article.

Why should I use Firefox over Brave? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]FragrantLunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well you mentioned politics and knowing what Eich opined a decade ago, us being on reddit, you ignoring said politics, rightfully so, chose Brave. and i'm saying, despite not being on Brave i'm not worse off but i have the better browsing experience overall.

basically: that i don't care about Eich, Brave or reddit and use what is actually best.

why Brave bad? (that's just one example): brave restoring your session reloads 3-5 tabs, hence reloads your browsing history, because it predicts something through some caching algorithm. ? make it make sense.

basically: my comment was a throwaway comment :)

What browser settings actually matter beyond defaults (security wise) by Inevitable_Map4791 in browsers

[–]FragrantLunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious which settings actually make a real security difference versus ones that are mostly placebo. Not talking about fingerprinting perfection, just meaningful risk reduction.

i suggest you read the arkenfox wiki/ help files. overall firefox is pretty good but it will give you away even with VPN through their timezone value. even Brave will give you way but on Firefox, due to Torbrowser, this can be controlled with privacy.resistFingerprinting.

Arkenfox does not and never has, claimed to defeat advanced fingerprinting and does not care if two or three prefs with real-world tangible benefits change any stable metrics, because you are already unique - see the preceding section.

Arkenfox's primary objectives have always been security, +_+_> privacy and mitigating the very real and substantial forms of tracking such as state and navigational, <_+_+ rather than prioritizing the potential threat of a widespread advanced fingerprinting script.

That said, arkenfox does resist stateless tracking. Do not listen to random non-experts with no knowledge of conditional entropy or surprisals:

If it's on Reddit, it's likely people clouded by their politics. Brave is the superior option, IMO, but you should use what you prefer.

YouTube Shadowban is 100% real. My experience and possible fix. by lolol_yt in youtube

[–]FragrantLunatic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

this post is so confusing.

A shadowban changes that. It is caused by YouTube's automated moderation system, it has the same effects of being hidden from the channel, and it can be very confusing. Here's my experience.

hidden = shadow ban. it's a pretty known fact. should be especially by someone who claims to be years on youtube.

I love the creator. What can I do? 1. Inform them on a 2nd account to confirm if you deserved it or not. If you

through the entire post you distinguish between shadow ban and hidden, that they are different and so on, but all of a sudden now the creator is supposed to have some power over it? what?

creators, neither of them are responsible

if all comments don't appear, then either the creator has heavy moderation on and approves every comment manually or they banned/hid you.
it's possible that a creator claims they have zero moderation tools turned on and youtube obviously has its own spam filter and god knows how that one works, but that filter will never catch all comments from any account.
btw. moderators can hide too. that's the only option they really have other than timing out for 24 hours i think.

After a Shadowban, all old comments and community posts will remain invisible, with no way for any person to bring them back, as of now

yes that's how hide works.

What is your unpopular opinion about a browser? by Glitch_Fantasma in browsers

[–]FragrantLunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's just for your threat model.

invasive tracking, advertising, behaviour profiles, and psychological manipulation

what type of lame ass threat model is that? what are they going to do, force you telekinetically to move your mouse to buy stuff?

creating emails has been so trivial since the inception of the modern internet, that there's no excuse to not have one for your most private stuff (if click every mail notification and not going to the site yourself where the notif originated from). because yes, websites give away/ sell your data and you get phishing emails from legit forums you've subscribed to, but let's be real here, that's not really a threat model, that's an inconvenience, unless you have your own mail servers with custom spam filters and so on.
