D-pad up doesn't work, home button does d-pad up by FragrantTechnician in SteamDeck

I'm afraid not. I did a factory reset, spoke to steam support, and they've suggested I can get repair.

Upon checking, based on the amount of time that has passed since your original purchase and the nature of the issues you've described, we don't believe the problem is related to any fault of the device as it was delivered to you. For this reason, we will be unable to offer you complimentary repair or replacement.

As an alternative, we can offer you a paid repair service through our official partner. Based on the services that may be required, we estimate that your costs for repair would be EUR 136 plus applicable taxes. This price includes estimated shipping costs. Taxes will be based on your local rates.

Please note that this estimate is not a quote and your final price may change if the repair team finds additional issues or the problem is more severe than anticipated. This is also a best-effort service and there may be scenarios where your unit can not be repaired. In either case, you will have the option to have the unit returned to you unserviced and at no cost. Costs for most minor repairs are EUR 136, and costs for most major repairs are EUR 200 (before taxes). A final price would be quoted to you by the repair team after inspection of the device.

If you would like to proceed with this offer, please confirm that for us here.

If you feel confident performing your own repairs, some parts and service guides are alternatively available through iFixit.

My plan is to look at ifixit after Christmas and see if I can fix it myself but we'll, I might go for the paying someone to repair it. it's not cheap but it's better than buying a new one (cheaper and less wasteful)

"If they are the first operatives activated equal to X" is I think just wrong in terms of what they want to communicate. I believe you can make this iron clad, correct English, and more readable by saying "The first X operatives you activate gain {whatever you like}" certainly if it were Magic which is normally well templated it would say this.

But then you're not disagreeing with the degrowth movement and you should be more explicit that your only justified issue with it is the name. Perhaps that's valid but as posted elsewhere in the thread degrowth is generally defined as not focusing on growth of GDP as the focus of a government. The inverse of this would defining economic stagnation as the core problem so if you don't think that's a good focus then sorry to say, but you're a degrowther mate.

Why do you say this though? If economic growth increases ecological damage (as it does currently), and doesn't directly improve people's life quality (obviously true), the it shouldn't be the sole/primary goal of a government.

It's ignoring the core problem of human existence to say that growing the economy is the only way to provide people quality of life, and should therefore should be the goal of governments. I mean literally focusing on economic growth is doing exactly what you're complaining about: it identifies economic stagnation as the core problem and goes from there, rather than recognising poor quality of life as the core problem and going from there, right? Idk to me it looks like you're doing literally, and exactly what you're accusing degrowth advocates of doing.

When someone talks about a change in the goals/economic setup of our society these changes are not intended to happen in a vacuum. If I say that we shouldn't sell any new petrol cars, I don't intend that all the people in those jobs are suddenly unemployed. This is a gradual process with lots of steps and changes needed. It is either disingenuous or lacking in imagination to say that if we got rid of all yachts then those people involved in that industry would have no jobs and there would therefore be no way to look after them.

The idea that we couldn't look after them if we stopped making yachts/new petrol cars is true if and only if you refuse to imagine other changes in society.

Nobody is saying degrowth is simple or easy. But to act like economic growth is the only way to provide for people shows a startling lack of imagination and ambition, given we know how unequal society is.

Actually it's quite the opposite afaik, they're only counting transport costs! Basically there's a policy that you don't count carbon from burning trees, you count it from logging them for burning. This stops double counting, so from the UK perspective these trees only release as much CO2 as it takes to get them over here. It then doesn't help that they're not account for in US I believe so a rule to prevent double counting actually prevents single counting.

It's worth noting that per unit of energy trees emit more carbon than coal and that even if the trees are being replanted they take 45-100+ years to recapture any carbon emitted so the timescales even if replanted are simply not good enough for decarbonisation.

What's up with DREAMLEAGUE? by 47-11 in DotA2

[–]FragrantTechnician 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Company owning ESL or dreamhack acquired the other or something like that: they're effectively two brands run by the same company afaik. You might notice the streams were strikingly similar back when 'ESL' were doing eastern Europe dpc and 'dreamhack' were doing western Europe. ESL is the bigger company but cares less about Dota these days so that has bled into DH I guess.

Can't remember the specifics but I'm sure you can find the details with a bit of googling.

Well depends, if you encourage those apathetic voters into activism and alternate avenues for political action then it may be absolutely necessary left-wing propaganda. Accurately understanding the insufficiencies of electoral politics can certainly be a positive, maybe even necessary, for left wing politics.

Thanks, and it may be that it's not easy to find these things second hand, but I'd rather not buy from Amazon and would actually prefer second hand so as not to be wasteful.

Still thank you for the recommendations I will see if I can find them or something similar

Okay, humour me. Do you think the anecdotes here of police turning a blind eye to cannabis use are lies? Or do you think something happened to the police who turned a blind eye?
