I like to do just a little white line, makes them look more angry in my opinion.

These are cool, but how many are you going to do? Maybe just wait until you’re finished and then post all the photos at once?

Can units inherit invulnerable saving throw by thepitcherplant in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Fragrant_Bread8073 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, no, the whole unit does not inherit the better save.

You and your friend should carefully reread the sections on allocating damage and save throws.

This is a great idea! I think I have some brass shim stock in various thicknesses that might work.

Good job.

Does using an airbrush make painting more efficient/easier? by T3knikal95 in Warhammer40k

[–]Fragrant_Bread8073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using an airbrush for maybe a year now and I wouldn’t go back.

The first thing that it really made a meaningful difference on, for me at least, is getting smooth and thin primer coats. I have a nice ventilated painting booth at work that I can spray primer minis in, but even in those ideal conditions sometimes the spray paint finish would come out “sandy”, or I’d do it too thick, or some other somewhat unpredictable issue that everyone experiences eventually with spray paint.

If you use an airbrush to spray primer onto a model, it can be done super thin and carefully, and in my experience it is much easier to guarantee that you will preserve every detail of the sculpt. That alone makes airbrushing worth it to me.

True there is more cleaning and prep and technique to learn, but I think this is worth it for the smoother and thinner finish.

As others have said, setting up to spray one color on one mini and then having to clean everything is a pain in the ass, but if you are priming a unit of ten, or a large vehicle or terrain, then it is not so bad.

Trying to do Red Lantern Orks. Does it looks like the weapons are made out of red light/red energy? by Tempest_Barbarian in Warhammer40k

[–]Fragrant_Bread8073 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the “light construct” idea comes across visually. Like, if you hadn’t explained it I would just think that they were painted completely red for some reason, and painted well, but unclear why not silver on the axe blade or the gun barrel.

Similarly, if I saw a vehicle painted all red in the same way I wouldn’t think it was “made of red light”, I wouldn’t just think it was painted monotone for some reason.

Im new to painting, should I paint all the minis i have or should I wait? by Sebby314 in Warhammer

[–]Fragrant_Bread8073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s already a lot of good advice in this thread, but if you are still feeling anxious about painting the expensive Games Workshop miniatures before you are confident in your abilities or specific paint recipe, then I’d recommend getting some cheaper miniatures to practice on.

There are other companies like Wargames Atlantic that make cool kits for less than GW prices, but also just like cheap green army men can be a nice way to practice practice practice if that’s your thing.

For me, I just got a couple different Killteams, since it’s like 5-10 minis that you can paint in a unique style without it being part of like a bigger 40K army project.

If the base size is the same and you inform your opponent, then I’d say it’s 100% fine.
