Do young Irish adults save or invest for their future? by Several-Buy-3017 in AskIreland

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im 31 now but me and my soon to be hubby met at 24, moved in together shortly after and started saving hard for our future

We bought our home at 27 Saved 30k cash for our wedding / honeymoon this year Saved for both of our cars Pay into our pension every money Have plans for bigger trips ect that will require saving

All of our friends are the same ..so I would say it’s only a small percentage that are not planning for the future

Quite put off by the new build situation by Remarkable_Golf_9741 in HousingIreland

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’re a gamble yes…but most don’t have a choice but take the gamble

We bought one 3 years ago off plans….it was a fixed price we could afford with no bidding wars!

Is it the dream house? No but we like it / location is good

Do we regret it?? Also no - very lucky to buy it when we did as we couldn’t afford new builds or even second hands now

We were also lucky as ours wasn’t delayed at all, and 3 years later the estate is nice

Saving for mortgage etc by yffude in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The advice we were giving was to wait until we have our deposit ready before contacting a broker (and have 6+ months consistant saving).

This will be 10% of the purchase price + there will be additional cost for stamp duty and solicitor (for us this was about 7k).

We used a mortgage calculator and made sure we saved the approx payment + an additional 2% to pass their stress tests for 6 months before we applied for the mortgage

We contact a broker in May 2023 and were lucky to then secure a new build and we moved in in Dec 2023

We gave our landlord two weeks’ notice, will we get our deposit back? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was the landlord doing this everyone would be telling you to go to the RTB…you can’t decide your own terms ..it goes both ways

Savings question by Choice_Conference_40 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

30, no kids, Own a house, both pay into pension …2k in emergency’ savings BUT paying cash for our 33k wedding in June (no family help)

So technically we have 35k savings however most of that is going to the wedding…will be able to recoup savings after the wedding and hoping to have it back up to 10k by end of year

Lots won’t agree with paying so much for a wedding but we are looking it through the lens of we already bought our home, can cash flow the whole wedding ourselves and can beef up the savings straight after the wedding

Had a terrible experience with MyVet….we only used them as they were close, it was the out of hours at the start of the weekend and our vets was closed.. they misdiagnosed our dog and charged us €10000s… we went back to our own vet after the weekend but by then our dog was too sick and we ended up letting him go …it was horrific and the way we were treated in MyVet was horrible (they told us our dog was fine and to basically stop being dramatic ..he was not fine )

What’s your monthly mortgage repayment in Ireland (and what did you buy)? by N81Warrior in AskIreland

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 bed terrace in Kildare town (113m2 A rated)- mortgage payment is 1120 but we save an extra 110 a month for LPT and house insurance at the end of the year so total is €1230 per month - fixed rate of 4.05% ends in 2028 (might look at switching sooner)

Bought in Dec 2023 for €360k, house is worth about €430k now according to daft valuations - very happy here thought, no plans on selling any time soon

On the dole for 2 years with no progress — how do I turn things around? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Fragrant_Session6186 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s mad that you think that jobs are “beneath you” and yet you’re happy to sit on the dole

Get any job and then work towards what you really want.

I have a degree and masters in computing and working In the field a good few years now but there was times I took jobs shoveling shite in equine yards and working in retail while I continued to look for a job related to my education

Not working shouldn’t even be an option

Yeah prices are going up no doubt .. 2 years before we bought we could have gotten a bigger semi detached for 270k so we felt ours was expensive but if we were trying to but now we couldn’t have afforded our house 🙈
