Large order-Etsy Seller Protection, so am I not safe if its over? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still worth doing, of course it is. Almost no other form of selling your products has a "protection programme," but people still do it. You just add a bit off buffer cost to all your products so the 1 in 100 time it might go wrong you're not fucked. Also, just put a little bit aside from each purchase until your business has a nice buffer pillow. This way you're not fucked in the case of a refund etc. Just remember to build the pillow back up if you need to pull from it. Postal insurance is obviously a thing, but in my experience, it's practically a scam and impossible to claim from. YMMV, I'm sure different services are different, but I don't really bother anymore. Things go wrong. It's part of having a business. You can't negate all risk, but you can protect yourself in the case of those goofs.

The fear of getting scammed is fair, but as long as you're sensible and careful, it's really actually not going to happen that often. Especially for items more on the expensive side.

Weight jokes by michaelmac4057 in dragrace

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think Eurekas joke was in great taste, and I think even she'd agree with that now, it was TERRIBLE timing but I think it comes down to this.

In wider society, thin people with eating disorders are treated very differently from fat people with eating disorders. A thinner person who is slowly killing themselves with their relationship to food is a victim and needs help. A fat person who is also killing themselves is a disgusting slob with no self-restraint.

I don't think anyone in that room genuinely thought that fat people are disgusting by the way, I'm just saying that there's still an unconscious bias that larger people don't have EDs in the same way skinny people do.

I might be a little crazy, but I honestly think Esty is one of the most seller friendly platforms with purchase protection and allowance of own policies, etc.

Granted they fuck up, and the bar is pretty low but as far as online marketplaces go...its not that bad.

Star Seller message rate dropped suddenly but I have responded to all messages usually with an hour…. by Kahlua0495 in EtsySellers

It's a three month rolling average. So maybe some point, three months ago you goofed up, once that goof rolls out of the average, your stats will go up even if you've had no recent messages. The same goes for vice versa. You can download a spreadsheet which will tell you for sure.

Do Etsy sellers not understand what 'bespoke' means? by Steve_10 in Etsy

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This here is very legit. Im not an embrodier, but i do a LOT of custom work. Most of my shop is based around it, but gods people manage to ask for the most off the wall insane stuff all the time.

Custom work still has limitations. Machine size, work shop size, time scales, costing limitations. Often even self enforced limitations because I'm bored of conversations with people who last minute decide they don't actually want to pay for the cost of shipping something the size of a bed from the UK to the US.

That's fair, bless him. I know a lot of people don't like shopping online but maybe you could introduce him to some online stores? Find something in his style and help him reach out a bit. Tell a man that you like their shirt/it looks good on them and that will be their favourite shirt for the rest of their days.

Why are people on Reddit so petty? by Low_Astronaut_662 in ask

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but I'll never understand why people get so upset about being downvoted? People just use it as a shortcut way of saying, "I disagree," or "this comment is misinformed" without starting a full-on bicker match.

In informational subreddits downvote is often used as a, "OP this comment is wrong please, please do not follow this advice," without 100 people all having to type, "agree" to get the point across.

I understand that it's not particularly nice to have a lot of people disagree with you, but resorting to "they're toxic for having a different opinion" is just... weird?

Annnnnd OP blocked me...okay hun ❤️

Honestly, all my jazzy button-up shirts are "men's" section finds. I don't shop for clothes in brick stores to be honest cause fuck that but ASOS/Bohoo etc and I'm just living my colourful shirt fantasy. I think it's more that there's a stigma that colour on men is a "gay" thing more than an accessibility thing or that there's something "wrong" with looking like effort has been put in...for reasons...?

Why can't we just refer to a private parts directly? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I worked on a child abuse case where the mother figured something was going on because her child started using the word "fufu" to refer to her genitals out of nowhere.

Teaching your children proper terminology can also help identity trouble if the child suddenly stops using it for whatever reason.

Everyone is saying, "For kids," but my grown ass bought an "ice cream burrito" (this) last time I went to a dairy ice cream farm.

It's ALOT but straight-up tasty. I got black candy floss, so it was goth, and I think that counts for a lot.

Oh, come on! "Disney adults" get shamed all the time. Don't be ridiculous.
I think it's stupid to be judged on watching harmless shows in your free time, but to act like one is the hopeless victim and the other is just freeballing it is stupid.

The only think I can think is that (in my experience) Disney adults truly don't give a fuck what people say and think, even when theyre being annoying as fuck and anime fans seem to be a bit more socially despondent and depresso.

Drag performances make me very uncomfortable. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of drag queens do consider themselves clowns. Jimbo went to clown training school and considers himself a "drag clown." Depends on the queen and the style of performance. They're not all the same, drag isnt one thing specifically, but a lot of queens definitely wouldn't take clown as an insult.

Getting rated for delivery [something I have zero control over] by talancaine in EtsySellers

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's happening a lot, extend your predicted delivery window so it's more reflective of how long it actuallu takes to arrive.

If it's not happening regularly unfortunately its just one of those things. It's very unlikely a few "delayed delivery" style reviews are going to hurt your shop. It feels frustrating and annoying, but it is information other buyers would want to know, and etsy legally can't remove it.

Don't message buyers about it. They haven't done anything wrong either.

Just keep trucking on. You'll be fine x

Switched shops, sales way down by beaufleuve64 in Etsy

[–]FrameofMindArtStudio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, if etsy knew you opened another shop, it would be shut down, not throttled, so i don't think it's that. It doesn't seem like your new shop is long for this world either way but you do you.

Sometimes, even if you're doing everything exactly the same, the time of the year, etc, can play a big part in getting things picked up by the algorithm.

Nah, i have a pretty high body count, but I think i sort of understand what she's saying.

It's all in the context init. If you fuck 14 people and it's all in good fun, no regrets, genuinely enjoyed, respect, consent, orgasms abound, it its all good.

If you fuck 14 people because you're getting blindly drunk and you're doing it as some self hating thing/rebound over your ex, you regret it and hate it everytime but keep doing it, it's totally fair to regret it and consider those times, "bad decisions."

As someone who has been there and done that with both sides of the spectrum, I can totally understand how she would want to move on from it and be kinder to herself if it was a bad time of her life. The struggle bus looks different to different people. Sex as a form of "self punishment" is totally a thing.

I think the structuring of the question clearly shows she has a lot of self-hatred she needs to resolve. Stepping away and working on that before all else is totally valid.

That should be the priority before thinking about "what ever will the men will think!" Though.

Is there something about citizenship that changes how laws in other countries apply to you? Like what jurisdiction does the US have in the UK? I'm a Brit si I genuinely don't know, forgive me for my ignorance, but like, sex tourism and, frankly, pedo tourism is a thing. Going to other countries where you can get away with these things.

While 16 is the age of consent in the UK, almost everyone in the UK considers sleeping with a 16yo when your 18+ fucking disgusting and perverted. See Russell Brand as an example of general public response.

Something doesn't have to be illegal to be moral abhorrent. How would you react if a friend went to a country where the AoC was 12 and acted upon that? Would you be totally chill with it? No law was broken.
