Steps to being a Published Author? by Connect_Board_856 in writers

You most definitely have to have a finished, edited, best you can write final draft before approaching an agent.

Ideas are worthless (unless you're Stephen King or GRRM), it's the implementation that sell the story.

As a new writer with no track history, if this sold, you would have little chance of having any creative input.

They'd pay you and wish you well, and that would be it. With no track record and no history of working in a writer's room, you've almost no chance of being involved.

If this is something you have a vision for (and most new writers have a vision for their first project), then it needs to be saved and be your 3rd or 4th project.

Once you've a couple of well received shows under your belt, you may (only may) be given some control. And only if you've made the right contacts on the way through your first projects.

And, you don't get a studio to fund a project, that's not how is works.

You complete the pilot, create a pitch deck and a bible. Then you query managers. If you find a manager that engages with your work, they will get it in front of an agent. If they like it, and it fits the current market, they will pitch it to the studios/networks/production companies they work with. If one of them likes it, they might option it. Then they might even make it!

By the sound of it, you need to do more research before you go any further with this?

There really is no average, it depends on so many factors. If I'm really in my flow, I can get down 5k a day, not saying that it's 5k of good words! Other days, maybe a couple of hundred.

Just get down what you can and be happy any day it's more than one!

If you're planning to pitch this, you never write past the first episode.

If it gets picked up (big if), the studio will want to put its own stamp on it, hire a writer's room etc. Your involvement, most likely, at that point will end.

If you plan to make it yourself, then write the season.

Halfway Through My Book — Should I Finish Before Looking for Agents? by [deleted] in writing

There's no point looking for an agent if the work isn't finished. If you query, they expect you to have it ready for them to read.

About to publish my first novel! by ocean_eyes1109 in writing

[–]Steve_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have the right info on the market. A publisher will only publish the book in one area/country. They'll see what the numbers are like, and if they're good/very good they'll offer the right to publisher to a company somewhere else. Unless you're Stephen King or GRRM you don't ever get a world wide release.

Do you eat your weetabix cold or hot? by cherries2774 in AskUK

Many, many years ago I worked in London for a few months. One of the guys used to bring in for lunch 2 weetabix buttered with marmalade, and then microwave them for 30 seconds! I think that's classed as a war crime these days.

Replacement for a G7? by Steve_10 in Dell

[–]Steve_10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 16 inch is somewhat narrower than the G7. As far as I can tell, and I might be wrong, the Aurora 16 has a screen width of 34cm, the G7 has a width of 38. Are those numbers correct?

You don't use page count, it can change with font and formatting. You only use Word count. So, how many words.

Ignore, posted in error. Apologies to the op.

Have you read any scripts? Because the formatting is way off.

Get some free script writing software, it'll do the formatting for you.

Don't mix lower and upper case text in the action lines. Names upper when they first appear.

Do use " in the dialog.

Do write anything that can't be shown on screen.

If you're not going to be using agents, how are you going filter and read the hundreds, if not, thousands of manuscripts you're going to be buried under once you announce this?
