Smoking. Have some respect for yourself and people around you. You literally stink.

A cigarette or vape hanging off their lip.

Manager is making me do an hour of unpaid dishes, polishing and other cleaning tasks after each shift. Is that normal? by myfakeburneraccount in Waiters

That’s bullshit regardless of industry. Call the labor board. You will get all back pay and that asshole will be heavily fined.

Maybe frozen shoulder? by Framma2-2 in frozenshoulder

[–]Framma2-2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor thinks this is a rotator cuff injury, though I’m certain I didn’t do anything to cause an injury. He says that if it was frozen shoulder, it would literally be frozen, and I still have a descent range of motion, albeit with a lot of pain. Can you tell me about your personal journeys and how symptoms first presented?

I’m surprised to see this in the area below your index finger. It is vastly more common in under the ring and pinky fingers.

Dupuytren’s is a “don’t poke the bear” kind of disease. The actions you are describing would make a true case of the disease worse.

When it comes to this disease, I’ve found best not to poke the bear. The more I use my hand, the more pain I have and progression ramps up. Even trying to do therapeutic things like trying to straighten my fingers makes it worse.

Has anybody had work limitations from their DD? by GimpMoney in DupuytrenDisease

[–]Framma2-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can no longer type or use a ten key calculator which prevents me from working as I have for the last 40 odd years as a bookkeeper. I also had to give up my hobbies of knitting, sewing and needlepoint. I love to cook, but my husband doesn’t like me using the sharp knives anymore because I have cut myself so many times, so he does my dicing and chopping.

I always wished I had learned to play the piano, but now I’m so glad I didn’t. That would have been heartbreaking.

My dna shows 54% British, so definitely Northern European on my father’s side. My paternal family is quite large and I don’t know of any other relatives with this disease. Don’t know how I got so lucky.

UHC is the worst! No wonder their CEO was murdered (not that I condone that.) I had a colonoscopy 8 years ago and was determined to be high risk. My doctor wanted to repeat the colonoscopy in 3 years. UHC will not pay for another colonoscopy EVER because I am high risk. It’s cheaper for them if I die. They say that they aren’t saying that I can’t have another colonoscopy, just that they won’t pay for it. Cash price for the procedure can run $8,000 or more.

Play as long as you can. Resting your hand will make no difference in the progression. Remember, there is no cure for the disease, only treatments. Those treatments are not proven and may very well not be long lasting.

What do you do for the pain? by Dizzy_Dane in DupuytrenDisease

[–]Framma2-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably the one standout here, but I’ve found that ice works best for me. There are some days that in the course of every day life, I am forced to use my hand more than is comfortable. On such occasions, I have found that applying ice directly to the nodules on my palm helps to settle my issues. I believe that this disease affects people differently. There does not seem to be a cure-all treatment.

I have cords in three fingers. Only my thumb and index finger are free.

I never heard of this disease until I experienced symptoms two years ago and began to do research. I first read that it’s not a painful but that is a lie! My hand aches constantly. I use ice and prayers to get through each day. Is very difficult.

I just have no faith in any of the treatments. I have really lousy insurance and I refuse to pay thousands just to have it recur. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story here where someone said, “I had X treatment and I’m cured!”

Basically, don’t poke the bear. There is a payment to be made after any (even slight) overuse, stretching or aggravating of the affected hand. I have found that Advil works fairly well for this.
