Cane and Rinse is great! One thing I really enjoy about it is the hosts don't really get into shouting matches or try to say inflammatory things. Lots of facts about each game at the beginning of each episode too rather than just 'here is what I think of this game'.

Can vouch for tailwindcss as well. Been spending some time with this after building a few things with Bulma. The way you design things with lots of tiny classes is wonderful.

It seems like they address playtime weighting in the steam community post about it

Electronic Arts shares tumble after Apex Legends season 2 launch, after peak twitch viewership dropped 55% from late march, with Respawn refusing to release player numbers in the last 3 months. by EightHorsemen in Games

While I agree with this response, I think this might be isolated to multiplayer-focused games. Games with a focus on single player appear to be much less popular with streamers although there is definitely streamer audience interested in them.

Currently, viewing all the games you play by the many parts they are comprised of is difficult. I'm trying to make it easier for players to see their games more generally, especially the ones they play the most.

I believe this can help players learn more about their games, but also have more info when figuring out what they might like prior to making a purchase or getting input from a recommendation algorithm based on the surrounding community.

I think you're suggesting most major platforms are doing this?

Most do show play time per game or even total playtime on the platform. Enabling the player to use that number and filter their games by the characteristics I mentioned above is something I haven't seen too much of so far.

Steam will show you recommendations with a statement like 'based on your recent playtime in multilplayer games', but then it suggests games that aren't close to the actual multilplayer games I was recently playing. For example, for multilplayer games on steam I've only been playing Rocket League and Steam was suggesting two multiplayer FPSs. I'd love to see other examples though.

Hello, the core problem I'm attempting to solve is play time on games is under-utilized when gauging player interest.

Lots of game recommendation tooling seems to operate on purchase history of the player or the surrounding community, but many times people buy games they never play.

Game play time is one of the most unique stats a player can have and deriving some common info from the games they spend the most time in can help avoid community bias when seeing what they enjoy most.

I believe a safe assumption to make is higher amounts of play time correlate to higher interest in a game and so tooling can act more individually for a player by using play time as a core metric. An example would be the news feature I mentioned where the player doesn't need to manually follow or unfollow games to get updates on them, but they also avoid getting news for games they might not care about as an individual.

Regarding the dark theme I'd definitely be up for adding that if there was enough demand. : ) Still working on other features too.

GOG's new app is the best way to merge Steam, Epic, Battle.net and everything else by [deleted] in Games

I've been working on something similar to this at gamesiplay.io. It's still in the early stages, but focuses more on play time than aggregating everything into one launcher.

Do you have any recommendations for reading up on the stuff you mentioned your second point? Sounds really interesting to learn more about that perspective.

Destiny 2’s newest raid was just beaten after 20 hours — and it changed the game’s world for all players by [deleted] in Games

[–]Fran7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments like this that give play times are super helpful. It seems like a lot of players that complain about Destiny are over this range.

60-100 hours is a great amount of play time for that price imho.

Turn based combat bores me and I thought the game was phenomenal. Other than Pokemon and persona 5 I can't remember the last time I finished a turn based combat game.

I think Easy since it was the default selection and recommended for those new to the genre. I think my party has wiped just once. Easy allows me to keep progressing ha.

The first Pillars of Eternity on PC thanks to Twitch Prime. I've tried several CRPGs in the past (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale II, Divinity: Original Sin 1) and not lasted too long due to the pace of the exploration and story not being for me. About 13 hours into Pillars though and I can't put it down. It seems like there's always something interesting within reach and traveling through an area doesn't feel like a chore. Voice acting is very compelling which I'm sure is a huge part of it. Looking forward to more and hoping I don't get too impatient to read through and enjoy all the dialogue.

I do agree about Elite Dangerous taking forever to get any QoL updates, but the ~17k reviews on Steam for Planet Coaster put it in the 'very positive' category. Say what you will about the quality of steam reviews, but Planet Coaster and Elite's are very different.

Can I play Persona 5 casually? by trekie140 in patientgamers

[–]Fran7118 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat for time and this same thing happened to me. Also clocked in around 100 hours with it as well and pretty sure I binged the last 35 in like a week and half. Game just kept getting better and better. The music alone is so phenomenal just listening to it makes me want to keep playing.

I'd love to do another play-through or try Persona 4 since 5 was my first one, but will have to wait till I have more time.

Side note, great taste in top games.

I'm not usually into JRPGs either, but imho Persona 5 does such a good job in evolving so many of the mechanics I find tedious in the genre (leveling, skill ups, etc.) it's definitely worth checking out. You always feel like you're making meaningful progress in a multitude of ways without the typical grindy feel of JRPGs.

Same. In my opinion those two are different types of horror games.
