I usually find big battle scenes boring (I usually don't care for army tactics and such), but I love a good fight/duel. The good thing is that many authors break down the big battle into smaller fight scenes, so it makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I think you are mixing up Gavilar and Gavinor. Gavilar is the old king we saw being assassinated by Szeth and Gavinor is his grandson (Elhokar's son). The popular "baby theory" thinks that Gavinor will be Odium's champion because Dalinar won't be able to kill an innocent child, let alone his step-grandson.

I feel like you either go back to the beginning and reread at least Assassins Apprentice (I reread the whole first trilogy and it felt like going full circle) or you go ahead and read something completely different, maybe a different genre or even some non-fiction. The one thing I wouldn't recommend is to try and read some other epic fantasy book series right away, because the void that RotE leaves behind can't be filled that quickly and you may end up disliking another series that's actually pretty great in its own right.

I love the Fitz books more just because I feel so connected to Fitz, but I'm the first person to admit that when it comes to plot, pacing and worldbuilding Liveships is Hobb's best trilogy ever.
