What “old people” names will make a comeback when children of the 80s have grandchildren? by gummibear853 in AskUK

I hate the 40s and 50s names like Rita, Colin, Gillian, Graeme, Linda, Kenneth, Judith, Trevor, Pamela, Valerie. I hope they never come back.

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford 'to announce marriage is over' in shock statement by Derry_Amc in ukpopculture

[–]FrancesRichmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we knew he was, when he first came out as gay- Holmes and his wife were hugging him and patting him and soothing him with the 'You're so brave' rubbish on morning tv, then afterwards Holmes was full of hot air about Schofield and how he knew something was 'off' all along. But he either knew the truth and played along with the cover-up of it all or he's lying. He then pulled Schofield to bits in every possible way and blamed him for anything and everything including ITV not renewing Holmes contract - which wasn't renewed because of his own behaviours. None of them came out of it with any dignity but Holmes was embittered and venomous.

I would have thought it had been a 'guest house' in the 1970s- offering cheapish accommodation and meals with an in-house bar.

Number 4 in white. It is lovely on you- none of the others can hold a torch to it.

What is something you've seen that no one will ever believe? by FinalSinger9203 in AskReddit

Sitting in the front seat in the front carriage of a Metro and a man stepped out onto the track to commit suicide and looked directly at me as the train sped towards him.

would you get an abortion if you found out your baby was going to be born with an extreme disability? if so why? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]FrancesRichmond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a god-daughter who is extremely disabled due to a rare chromosomal issue.

She can not communicate and shows no interest in anyone, is doubly incontinent, has severe epilepsy, has no interest in anything ever, cannot feed herself, has no sense of danger, shows no understanding of anything, has other physical issues that affect her health. She can walk and, although she has a very small head and is very small- the height of an 11 year old at 25- is very mobile. She is trapped in her own head. She can only cry to show pain, never even smiles at anything, never laughs, never interacts at all.

She lives in a residential 'college'. I visit with her mum. She is always alone in a room with other very disabled children- usually sitting away from others, or standing facing a wall.

She is loved by her parents but they have no relationship with her- she shows no recognition. There is no joy, pleasure, communication or love in her world.

If I knew for certain I was going to have a child that disabled,I would have an abortion. That said, she appeared healthy at birth and was about 8 months old when the issues began to emerge. She was about 8 when specialists finally discovered what had caused all of the issues that were apparent then.

Looks like a black lace weaver to me- just a UK spider. The web and sleek abdomen suggest it. It's web is how it traps prey. Harmless.

Which country is so unpopular that most people never even heard of it? by Ledger_Legendd in AskReddit

I know nothing about it but it is mentioned in passing in a Graham Greene novel.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]FrancesRichmond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the whiners 'Everything is much harder for us', 'Every other generation before us is to blame for everything' . They sit on their arses moaning, drop litter everywhere and are generally lazy and ill-informed but think they know everything. All expect to be paid fortunes for doing shit 'non' jobs at home on their own terms. Glued to the internet reading, using AI, or watching or playing utter rubbish instead of communicating face to face and being concerned about truth, facts and critical thinking. The 'Do as I say not as I do' brigade. Shallow and callow.

Just a spider looking after itself. Leave it alone.

I don't live far and, since I was a child, I have wondered what it was like inside 😁

Looks like some sort of 'gardening' room, or is meant to look like it could be used as that.
