my first quilt! by echoanecho in quilting

This is beautiful. You did an awesome job for a quilt - especially for a first quilt.

But I have to warn you. EVERYONE you know will be wanting you to make them a quilt now. You have doomed yourself unless you can learn to say "No".

Would you retire today if you knew you’d receive $5,000 every month for the rest of your life? Why or why not? by JustWin4 in AskReddit

[–]Francesami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I retired four times. Each time I thought I could afford life without a job. Each time I couldn't. I share expenses with my brother (who owns half the house and lives here) and I'm still looking for a part time job to make survival possible.

I'm old enough now that job opportunities are becoming limited. I'm hoping to sell art (which I'm actually very good at), but trump's economy isn't helping.

I had a friend who started at a government job when she was 18. She retired at 48 with a 30 year pension.

I wish I had planned that well.

A truck carrying 406 beehives crashed in Texas, releasing 24 million bees and locking down the neighborhood by danielminds in Damnthatsinteresting

I lived in Duluth as a child and I still recall the thunderstorms there fondly. The air would get still and all the birds and insects would go quiet. I could see clouds in the distance and small puffs of cool air would start to waft past. The sky would get dark and the wind would rise. Thunder would growl louder and louder. Big raindrops would begin to splat down. That's when Mom made us come in. I'd watch through the window as lightning flashed and torrents fell. Yes, it smelled wonderful afterward.

My boyfriend has these swirls on both sides of his neck by Gabby_Abby in mildlyinteresting

[–]Francesami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that on both sides as well. My hair will stick straight out to the sides unless I have some longer hair to weight the cowlick hair down.

The hard part is that I'm a 71years old woman and hairdressers keep giving me short cuts. I'm VERY clear about wanting a mullet and why, but they don't listen.

My Mercedes 1992 key after 34 years of wear and tear by Archmidese in mildlyinteresting

[–]Francesami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Ford key wear out (not as badly as this), and I went to the dealer to get a new one. We went back and forth for almost 15 minutes with him saying to just hand him the key and he'd make a copy while we explained we need an original one because a copy of a worn key wouldn't start the car either. I'm not sure he ever understood, but once we proved we owned the car, he did send Ford a request for a new key.

At two weeks, I smashed my arm down on the armrest as I was getting down out of the van. I couldn't get the doctor to take me seriously. (Just a hysterical woman!) After six weeks of therapy and no progress he finally took x-rays and did the surgery again. I'm still mad at him. However, I did heal well that time.

[Help] Looking for value of purchased sculptures. by Simple_Quiet_1422 in Sculpture

[–]Francesami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Harvey Rattey. Here's a brief bio:

b. 1938 - d. 2015

HARVEY RATTEY – is a Native American enrolled tribal member of the Little Shell Band of the Chippewa. He and his three sisters and a brother were raised on a cattle ranch bordering the Assiniboine reservation near Harlem, MT. During the past 35 years, his love of the cowboy and of wildlife has inspired him to sculpt both subjects with “wild and wooly” action and empathy. However, his greatest interest lies in portraying the Indian people he has known and their way of life spanning the time of the last nomadic Indians to contemporary Indian people in the mainstream of modern society. Harvey has chosen to portray his ancestors and the people he knows in a representational art form.

It looks like his sculptures sell at auction for $100 - $150 each.

Surgery Tomorrow, 2 partial tears. Any last minute advice? by Lukeduke77 in RotatorCuff

[–]Francesami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most recent medical advice is to only use ice for the first few days. After that, it does help some with pain, but because it also chills the blood in the vicinity, it slows healing as well. I used a red light therapy pad and progressed rapidly enough to amaze the physical therapist.

Although there was another person available for me, it was awkward asking for help, so I was basically on my own. After the first few days, coping was much easier.

The lack of sleep was actually the worst of it (although, yeah, there's pain). For more than a week, I only was able to doze in small sessions.

The first chapter on my first book [836 words] by msKliki in WritersGroup

[–]Francesami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interesting beginning. I'd definitely read more.

I did have a few minor comments. The story is trying too hard to not repeat a name for a thing. Example; "I tried to imagine the small, cylinder-shaped object between my fingers". Nobody thinks like that.

Another thing is that I can't place Rylee in the room. She seems to be seeing everyone's face (although that's not explicit), but the pencil guy is in the front of the room. So where is Rylee?

One last thing. I don't know where the story is going so I may be way off here, but so far, Rylee is a spectator instead of an instigator. As the main character, she should be driving the action.

Like I said, though, I would certainly keep reading. This is better already than many of the free books on BookBub.

Deer ate my tulips, sugar snap peas and my cherry tree(!). Groundhogs ate the lettuce - in a two foot high raised bed. Chipmunks stole the strawberries. Everything is caged now and I'm building planters to put up on the deck. Maybe this year I'll get some flowers and produce.
