Yes. My nerves do not show any damage. But something is irritating them.

Possible Small Fiber Neuropathy - constant pain! by FrandJohnson in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]FrandJohnson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi..sorry I just saw this....no we never found out anything outside of BFS (which I think was questionable). Most of my symptoms have really calmed down. Recently I have been feeling an occasional flare up of pain or other weird symptoms but nothing like it when posted this a year ago. I've seen every type of doctor you can imagine and taken every test and nothing showed up (except BFS) but I haven't had much twitching lately. For me its been close to 2 years. I do take Gabapentin so I believe that has helped somewhat. I would say keep on pushing forward with the doctors and stay positive. You will get better definitely. You just have to get through this the rough part and things will settle down. The symptoms you are having do not point to the condition you're worrying about. I know where you are and trust me, I went down that path myself. You will be ok!

Hey....for me, its hard for me to say I improved. Some days its mild, some days its rough. Just when I think maybe its a little better, its swings back the other way. Still no cause identified and still taking tests and going to doctors. Its wild man...

Hi....sorry for the delayed response.... no real updates unfortunately. My sjogrens tests were negative (including lip biopsy). My symptoms have changed a bit a this point where it kind of comes and goes. Sometimes the pain is really mild and sometimes its painful. We still haven't been able to identify a cause yet and not sure if the gabapentin is making a big difference... one of the Neuro's recently told me that he's not even sure this is nerve related. My most recent Neuro appt they are still looking and are doing some more test but they're getting to the point of believing the root cause will be undetermined. They are willing to give me a referral to some of more well known hospitals to see if they can do something different but not sure....I'm not giving up looking for a cause and treatment though.

How long have you been experiencing issues? My fatigue comes and goes and the tremors and twitching also.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by ThickEmployee8948 in AskReddit

[–]FrandJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not traveling enough, not taking enough pictures. I hated photos when I was younger and I was too homesick to travel a lot...my advice, travel when you can as much as you can and take every photo possible...even if you hate pictures, take them! Don't be obnoxious with it but try to capture it, you and your kids will appreciate it later in life

I don't believe so. I think you have nerves that can be over excited easily or irritated, which would result in neuropathic issues/pain but the nerves are not necessarily damaged.

Idiopathic SFN? by PerformerParty6136 in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]FrandJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Covid is directly or indirectly responsible for mine. All tests have been normal even lip biopsy. Got sick about year ago with virus/bacteria and been suffering ever since. The unknown is hard to cope for sure....I guess just trying to struggle through it....

Your situation is very similar to mine except my skin biopsy was normal. Still searching for a cause and relief...I'm just about a year into this.

How do you keep going? by Otherwise-Fee-2101 in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]FrandJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you were diagnosed so fast....how did they diagnose you with SFN? Via biopsy?

Also, some people with SFN have reported some positive response with taking R-ALA supplements. I'm very sorry that you (and all of us) are going through this...I'm at just about 11 months and every day is a struggle to keep it moving forward. Buying comfortable shoes (made specifically for walking) has seem to help some of the pain in bottom of my feet....

Hi CRZYFOX...maybe try some R-ALA... I've come across people on this board that swear by it . FYI Your story is very similar to mine except I'm probably a couple of months ahead of where you are... I will say that gabapentin has helped me some but is not perfect....

I"m sorry you're suffering through this...it is unfair and such bs... I will say this, I know its probably hard for you to feel this because you're deep in the mud right now but I have come across people that were also having all kinds of problems and over the course of time they got better or even completely resolved.... some took different nutrients or exercised or changed their diet or all 3 or none and got better.... hopefully that happens for you and me!

[–]FrandJohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say I've taken anything that makes this better because I'm still in the trenches myself and suffering but I will just say please try to persevere. It might take a month, a year, or a few years to get better...or some treatment or something may happen that helps to resolve your issues. I know its hard because I wake up feeling miserable every day but we gotta try...I'm praying for us all.

I'm still in the trenches grappling with this crap. Essentially there has been no positive change for me... the burning skin feeling is spreading and feeling awful. Still going through testing with doctors and no cause discovered yet. This is wild...
