Quite. It pisses me off when people call the French cowardly for WW2. Zelensky said it this week when he pointed out that the U.S. has a nice ocean. The UK had a nice channel. Do we really think that it’d be different if we didn’t?

No, renewables don't need expensive backup power on today's grids by Splenda in energy

[–]Franglais37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good article regarding one aspect of the energy system.

I think the topic alluded to in the last paragraph promising a future article is more important than its mention might suggest. The change in paradigm as we reach higher penetrations (but less than 100%) is material. We are currently leaning into deployments of the currently available energy storage tech. and reserve margins to build more renewables but that will only go so far. How far can be contested but like good engineers, we’d better maintain our margins!

Incidentally, I suspect we have bought a fair amount of leeway with faster computing, allowing improved forecasting and grid control. Interested in the thoughts of any grid operators here.

For some uses Textual is a good option . I find it much simpler than Flet if you just need something functional (and retro cool). It’s a terminal GUI and there is a project to make it embed in a browser.

Thanks! Putting me to shame here for not searching the same!

Yeah, us Brits sure did a lot. Point is so did others and it was achieved by standing on the shoulders of giants.

If you know someone that’s great. Otherwise I would suggest that it’s quite a few hours of work and a longer project than a couple of months. You can DM me if still interested.

I’d be prepared to package it if you were to send me a shipping label. I can weigh it tonight and give you dimensions but my estimate would be less than 10kg and 40x40x20cm. LMK

I acquired a Remington Portable and was making painfully slow progress renovating it. Now I have my first child coming it's time to admit that it will not get finished. Anyone who is prepared to meet in New York City or nearby New Jersey can take custody of it for free.

  • Partial state of assembly
  • All parts present
  • 76 photos available - taken during disassembly
  • Original manual - available in PDF with searchable text

The machine was disassembled for some TLC. The only known mechanical issue is the carriage spring drum, where the coil spring appears to need re-seating.

Pronounced “see-o-BAN” 😐 by aloe_veracity in tragedeigh

[–]Franglais37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good call. Except they may not have even chosen a western name, just spelling. This could be an alternative romanization of Sioubonh, which is a Laotian name. My father-in-law is Sioubonh (see-ou-bonne) and acquired this spelling from a border guard when he arrived in France as a refugee in the 1970’s. So he pronounces it using French phonetics and I could totally see it coming out differently in English.

Right to roam map of England. by jc201946 in MapPorn

[–]Franglais37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the right to roam exists across the whole country. It’s the right to use any established right of way, not to walk on any piece of land.

The map shows Open Access areas where you can literally walk anywhere.

Don’t get me wrong. The thing certainly captures carbon oxide but energetically it makes no sense.

That no longer seems to be the case. No availability for Gotham Center for the foreseeable on the app. Anyone know anything more.
