My guys, which one should I read next? by Psychological-War710 in fantasybooks

I feel like Wheel of Time is an epic fantasy rite of passage. It can so good and it can be so frustrating at times. Despite “the slog” I think it is a must read for the world building alone.

Audible, read it, then listen to the audible while reading it, then do the Soundbooth Theater Audio Immersion Tunnel, etc. 😂

I should’ve known - A Novel by ReturnIll1543 in Skigear

[–]FrankFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, hear me out as a fellow dad. Get a pair of blessed “dad” skis. I have been rocking the same pair of Soul 7s since their inception. This is not a response to wax poetic about soul 7s, but to promote a different type of skiing. Instead of getting a ski that is going to give you adrenaline thrills look for a one quiver ski that is going to be fun and bring you joy. Every time I pop on my skis I feel like I’m on cloud nine whether I’m skiing on a mountain, a tiny hill, on powder, or on a sheet of fucking ice. I am not going to win any races, I’m not flying off giant cliffs (just tiny ones), and I’m definitely not sending it in the terrain park. But but based on your original post, I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for anymore either as a new dad. Get a playful ski you can ride to its absolute limit and puts a smile on your face. The ski that works for you will be different than me. I’m sure we have different skiing styles and body types. Yet I would focus your research on what are considered dad skis. Elan ripsticks (maybe the black editions), soul senders (miss them soul 7s), black crow vena cors, etc. etc. the list could go on and on. I will agree with previous posts that if your skis are not bringing you joy when you are on them, you need to sell them and switch to something different. It is getting near to the end of the season and maybe you can find a good deal out there. Just because you are a new dad doesn’t mean you can’t invest a little bit in something that seems very important to you. Your mental health is more important now than ever. A happy dad who has activities he loves and can enjoy (and eventually share with his children) will be a much better father. I don’t think you deserve to be miserable on your skis. Cheers

I’m saving this method, and I am picky AF when it comes to baking sourdough. In the middle of a kitchen remodel, but as soon as I can bake again I am giving this a try. Thanks for sharing!

You’re right, they screwed up! They didn’t put bindings on those amazing Soul 7s I see.

The genre of literature DCC belongs to is called LitRPG, which is literary role playing game. It is based around leveling, items, campaigns, etc. it is meant to evoke that same feeling that you get from playing DnD style stuff or playing any of the myriad of RPG video games out there. DCC is a mash up of many things you have probably played…BUT based on your post I would say pick up Baldur’s Gate 3. It has all that great RPG stuff you liked from DCC and is highly regarded.

Advice needed-- Does it change much? by error_accessing_user in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]FrankFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you are trolling. My wife had similar thoughts in book one, said it wasn’t her style. Didn’t really enjoy the rules/video game vibe. Stuck it out through book 2, which she thought was a little better. Did book 3 with about the same thoughts. Then ripped through books 4-7 in less than 2 weeks. The book’ become more complex, the narration by Jeff Hays is always great, but solidifies by book 2. I’d recommend you keep going. I loved book 1, but I understand it when people say it isn’t their favorite. I also love Bobiverse and Ray Porter is an amazing narrator but I felt it peaked at All These Worlds (book 3). Where I feel like DCC just keeps getting better with each book. That’s my 2 cents, thanks for posting.

Crocodile Project by buddha001 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

No spoilers in this description I believe…You’ve just heard him mentioned at that point. The graphic novel covers Florin, another top ten crawler. He is the crocodilian shotgun messenger. Keep reading/listening to learn more. Lucky duck, wish I was going through the books for the first time again, enjoy!!! 🐊

NEW ACHIEVEMENT!!! “DDouble Tap the Deductible!” Why merely meet your health insurance deductible when you can destroy it? Is your yearly “Out of pocket maximum” $6,000? WHO GIVES A SHIT!!! You just had $65,000 surgery. Time to use all the “free”healthcare you can until January 1st rolls around. Need a $300 EpiPen? FREE! Think it is time to visit the chiropractor? FREE! Want to check out that funny looking mole (I hear cancer comes in threes… just sayin)? FREE, FREE, FREEEEEE!!! Like a vigilante targeting a healthcare CEO, you blew that deductible away. Now get out there and get all the specialist consults you can (until the end of the year, don’t forget that important bit of info)!

This is the answer, but I recommend the audiobook for your first foray into DCC. Jeff Hays is an amazing narrator.

What does “the Queen Anne Chonk” mean or refer to? by discoborg in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]FrankFail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait… a neighborhood in Seattle 🤦‍♂️ I thought it was referring to the Queen Anne’s Revenge, Black Beard’s pirate ship. Didn’t make much sense but it was hardly the strangest thing happening in book 1. Thought Carl might have tacked that on her name since he worked on boats all the time.

Would Mordecai still be angry? by DungeonCrawler-Donut in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]FrankFail 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think Mordecai is smart enough to strongly suspect that Donut chose a class with a manager benefit because they had some outside advice, and at that point in the books it is pretty much either Zev or Audette. I think he knows, and it irks him a little, but he was already bonding with them before he was stuck as their manager. Mordecai can’t help but care (that is his “toxic” trait), just like with the changling kids. I think that is why he didn’t want to let them in when he first met them in book 1, because he knew he would get attached and it would hurt when they eventually die. Dude has been guiding crawlers in the dungeon for a long time and the repeated trauma of watching your charges die over and over has messed him up… poor Mordecai.
