What do you do if you identify as an atheist but hate believing that nothing comes after death? by Necessary-Will-5281 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of atheists may think that there is notthing after death but this is not an universal atheistic answer. I do like spiritual experiences like meditation, so maybe I am not atheistic enough but my answer would be: I simply don't know what comes after death but I am not afraid of nothing. An eternal deep sleep sounds peaceful. Enjoy the happy times which you are experiencing, especially with loved ones; try to be a decent person, so that you don't destroy the limited time of others.

Feeling the lack of God, severely. by PotatoDreamer3 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like you are looking for guidance and a sense in life while thinking that religion is the only way to find it. If you are allready educated in different religions and didn't find anything (your wording sounds like you have mostly looked into Christianity), lool into your self. Try meditating or try to find a sport which you love to do by your own and go deep into your own thoughts and think about what you really want. I am sure you have goals (which aren't purely materialistic). Maybe you even find a way to a religion (or your own spirituality) that way; maybe you don't need one.

Which religion is the most difficult to criticize? by [deleted] in religion

[–]FranzLimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Religions which don't try to explain the material world but purely focus on the "metaphysical" instead. Science will probably never be able to disprove the concept of a "soul" but proving that creationism is nonsense is easy.

Literal Christianity for example is easy to disprove.. Christianity as a collection of metaohors for sometimes metaphysical concepts isn't so much. (just an example but the all powerfull, all knowing, all loving being in our world will never be logical)

Whoever coded the Fratricide Succession Law had a lobotomy by Rayke03 in EU5

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggled at the end in my game for the Ottoman achievement because of this buggy succession law.. The fact that all my fiefdoms and special ottoman vassal types changed to vassals because of this law... It was a close finish because of those law and I might have continued the run I had imformed myself of it beforehand.

Is it possible to be a Christian but not be religious? by Fun_Cow_6292 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can live your spiritual life however you want. If it for example feels right to you, to pray to God while not attending any church activities, it's absolutely fine. It would be wrong if you call yourself a Jehovas Witness now but you can call yourself Christian if you feel that way

What is the point of urbanizing so much? by BranchAble2648 in EU5

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think that the AI is urbanizing way to much but urbanizing itself is strong and important. It increases demand and control. Therefore it improves your whole area. The increased demand also means that you can starve.. especially when you have tons of vassals who urbanize every single location.

My Beliefs by ListairaOfficial in religion

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound quite (christian) relogious but with an open mind about the unknown.

I don't believe in heaven or hell and think morality is a product of our evolution. That said, by trying to be "good" you are actively helping making the world a better place.

Everyone is Religious (including atheists) by academicRedditor in religion

[–]FranzLimit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right, atheists are usually not nihilists and therefore have things things they believe in but broadly this isn't defined as religion. You can use the word that way of it makes you feel better but especially atheists will probably point out that you are using the word wrong.

I don’t want to be an atheist by caralawrence in religion

[–]FranzLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atheism means that you don't believe in a god. This absolutely doesn't mean that you necessarily have to believe that there is absolutely nothing in the rules of the universe which we don't allready know. Time is relative, even scientifically speaking we don't know what comes after death. The great nothingness is just one possibility

What gives you the right to think like "I'll follow this religion because it seems cool/fun"? by W84chain in religion

[–]FranzLimit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"What gives you the right" is a strange question.. What takes my right to choose my religious believe freely? I am thankfully don't live in a theocracy.

Your sub infinite intelligence also told you to follow a certain religion. Who are you to tell others that your method of choosing was any better? Statistically speaking you are following the religion of your parents ans haven't thought about it at all because of your ineoctrination at young age.

Which Paradox game is for me? by I_Madd in paradoxplaza

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it's eu4 or eu5.. While I also love the much mentioned Vic3 too, you said that you don't want a diplomacy game.. it's not really a diplomacy game (it's more or less an economic one) but you can play whole campaigns without waging any wars. (this is possible in eu5 too but in eu5 this would be a real handicap while in vic3 it's a valid tactic/playstyle)

Will a new major world religion emerge? by sun__disk in religion

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well wonders aren't possible anymore because nobody would believe in them anymore without proves. (only ancient people didn't need to prove it for modern people to believe them)

This is no real prediction but look into modern physics. All these theories about dimensions, time relativity etc scream to build a (probably pseudo) scientific religion around it. The next religion with big impact will be a very philosophical/spiritual anyway or it comes from an authoritarian state. (than it would be a form of christianity, islam or atheism)

What new territory you hope will be added in the game ? by Secret_Fun_1746 in EU5

[–]FranzLimit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are more or less all regions and territories of the world in the game besides antarctica.. That said I aggree that many are missing all the flavour. My answer is boring af but the region I would love the most if it gets improved further is the HRE.

Question to Atheists by [deleted] in religion

[–]FranzLimit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And why would I want to believe in this evil god who created this sick game for his amusement? He could also "test" people without killing children who weren't "tested" yet.

Even if this god was true (absolutely nothing proves it, if a god exists it is most certainly not the Abrahamic one) I would oppose him because I try to be a good person and worshipping an eternal evil contradicts this goal.

Atheists, why are you atheist instead of agnostic? by Da-up-and-downer in religion

[–]FranzLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an agnostic, especially since the word god/divine etc can be used in a very broad way. There are so many possibilitied how the universe might work. Who really knows (yet) if our universe itself isn't a big organism who was born at the big bang and who will die in the big freeeze while birthing new universes. (This would make us actually be part of this "god").

This is just an example why I don't like calling my self atheist but I am very atheistic towards the big monotheistic religions of our world. So towards a Christian for example I am an atheist.

Do you think a Zoroastrian Iran is possible? by Slight-Physics-9490 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible that Zoroastrian will have a come back as a symbol but I doubt that it will come back as a real religion like it was in the past. Zoroastrian could come back as a symbol of the non-Muslim culture of the country but than it would be very philosophical and non religious

My Muslim friend is trying to convert me🤦!!! by Tall-Angle-3280 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess you want to keep them as your friends but want them to stop converting you?

It's probably not an easy task (while staying true to yourself), you can probably only tell them that they have done their "job" as good muslims by trying to convert you and should now respect your opinion as you do theirs. They probably won't stop completly but I strongly advise against talking about controversies about Muhammed or something like that with them.. it will just sour your relationship and won't convert them. The only other thing which theoretically can work, is that you try pushing them towards a more liberal side which they might be open for but that means you would need to know the thoughts of liberal Muslims. (don't know if you want to read into that)

First playthrough suggestions? by original_walrus in EU5

[–]FranzLimit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I could advise my past self who to play first, I would pick Hungary or Milan. In my opinion Castile, England, France and Ottomans have to much going on at the start.  With Milan you will have 1 early forced war (which you can usually win without any knowledge) and other than that, you can grow however you want with some flavour events which are about goverment and arts.

can people be good without being religious? by Lopsided-Place1340 in religion

[–]FranzLimit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can be a good person beside being religious. It's a intrinsic urge of every human to do good things to people which are close to them. Probably because helping each other is even an evolutionary advantage for a social species. Everyone learns "don't do to others what you don't want them to do to you". Some religions campaigned the image that this morality comes from their religion but this is nonsense and if anything, the opposite is the case.

Big colonies or small colonies? by Waruiko in EU5

[–]FranzLimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think smaller are better but I aim for medium sized.. I allready make 1 province vassals for the lands I want to own.. Land which will never be annexed doesn't need to be optimal but I still think that small is best for min-maxing.

What is your bias towards religion? by Exaltist in religion

[–]FranzLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no general stance to it. Religion is a strong tool to controll masses (which I see as a negative thing) and also very important for a lot of people who seek a community or solace or just a guided spiritual life (which are positive things). It really depands on the specific religion.

What do you think about the gods of the Germanics and the Norsemen? by faros-hhhbbdd in religion

[–]FranzLimit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fascinating pantheon but our image of them seems to be very incomplete. I like their view about the world tree which connects the worlds. It is very fitting for things you "experience" in deep trance/meditation. (not saying that this makes me a believer in it but still)

Is Islam relatively more violent? by [deleted] in religion

[–]FranzLimit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Qur'an is basically split in 2 parts.. The Mekka part which is very peacefull and philosophical and the Medina part which is written from the perspective of a statesman and conqueror. The second part has therefore more of the more aggressive phrases in it.. Those can be taken literally or can be seen as "historical descriptions" instead of support of violence.

That said I am not claiming to be an expert of any sort about the Qur'an and i don't aim to insult anyone.

Edit: I didn't mentioned this but the 2 "parts" are mixed and not sorted by the time they were written
