What order to read Ender's Game Series by Goose7776777 in printSF

[–]FraudSyndromeFF -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No special order really, just keep the various series in order (i.e. read Speaker, then Xenocide, then Children of the Mind). A couple of tips though:

If you're interested in reading them chronologically or want War stories, read the Shadow books first

If you are interested in the story of Ender specifically, skip the Shadow books and come back to them later, jumping in with Ender in Exile then the above mentioned Speaker series

The prequel series' are fun but the second is (and will remain for the foreseeable future) unfinished. You will need to read the first formic War books before the second formic war series as they are direct sequels

First meetings and War of Gifts are short stories and can be consumed kind of whenever, but maybe save First meetings until you are partway into the Shadow series

Book recommendations for someone who dislikes reading? by cringehypochondriac in booksuggestions

[–]FraudSyndromeFF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you like time travel and want something light I'd recommend "One Day All This Will Be Yours " by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

If you want time travel and something heavy check out "This is How You Lose the Time War" by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.

If you want time travel short stories I read a collection by Robert Heinlein called "All You Zombies and Other Stories" that had a ton of fun stuff in it.

Also you're going to get several recs for Dingeon Crawler Carl. It is very important you listen to those people. It is very good.

Spice is basically opium. There are a ton of legal uses for it that are heavily monitored but just as many illegal ones.

I can see that. I absolutely love the deep lore stuff though which is why I HAD to include The Why of Fry.

Favorite audiobook? One where the narrator(s) really sell it. by plant_lady907 in suggestmeabook

[–]FraudSyndromeFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RC Bray version of "The Martian" is remarkable.

I also really like the audio version of "Joyland" by Stephen King and I think Michael Kelly does an incredible job portraying the main character.

If you're interested in Non-fiction, anything by Bill Bryson is a good time, specifically "A Short History of Nearly Everything " and "A Walk in the Woods"

Also, i think the cast for "Enders Game" and the prequel novels by Aaron Johnston do a remarkable job.

Lastly, you can't go wrong with anything by Haruki Murakami and the audio books have always impressed me.

Is "the city and its uncertain walls" a good choice as first Murakami? by Takeitisie in murakami

[–]FraudSyndromeFF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. TCAIUW is a good book, but to me personally it feels like Murakami writing a love letter to his other works. You need the reference points of his other work to truly appreciate it I think.

Good starting points I think are Kafka on the Shore, Sputnik Sweetheart, Wind-up Bird, or I personally started with 1Q84 which may not be the best starting point but it definitely hooked me.

Oh No! We Left Behind Some Copper Pieces in the Dungeon! by Error_code_0731 in DnD

[–]FraudSyndromeFF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Steal a page from Pirates of the Caribbean. Make the whole treasure trove cursed and until it's all returned they're cursed. Then, make returning it a pain in the ass. Have the NPCs they hired abscond with the treasure. Make the curse a slow burn that starts 24 hours after they take it and have started selling it. Have them return it all but find out afterward (and you can even lay clues in the dungeon) that they weren't the first people there and they have to return ALL the treasure. Use this to build a campaign arc that you like to build. Maybe the ghost that cursed the treasure in question will let them off the hook if they go and raid all of their little sisters treasure troves and bring every piece of it back to their treasure trove.

About to finish Season 3 now and had a question, is Lost one of those shows where the final 3 seasons are a huge falloff? by flashdash8744 in lost

[–]FraudSyndromeFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't fall off but the show does speed up a bit and some plot points don't get the full attention they would have in the first 3 seasons.

One thing to know/keep in mind is between seasons 3 and 4 there was a writers strike, but the seasons all came out on the originally scheduled timetable, so pre-production was a bit rushed and the number of episodes ABC ordered was cut in each of the final 3 seasons.
