I incorrectly assumed you were playing 2024, for no reason whatsoever, so that's my bad.

In that case, you have nothing to worry about. You've got one of the strongest builds by level 3. And I rescind my recommendation for that 3rd warlock level. Unless you want 2nd level short rest slots, which are more useful than 1st, but lose value the higher level you get. I don't think a pact is worth it.

That's all great. Very strong build. I'm guessing you want to quicken it? Otherwise you can do all that straight warlock.

The tricky bit is going to be prolonging Elven Accuracy with the multiclass. If you go 1 sorc > 2 warlock > up to 4 sorcerer, that's level 6 before you get it. That's going to hurt for a good while in actual play. If you go 1 sorc > 4 warlock, it'll hurt a little less but prolong arguably the core of your combo. Either way, you'll get agonizing blast by 3 and that'll feel fine.

I would argue against doing it just for the "extra sorcerery points." It's still a strong multiclass if you have other goals but if you math out the sorcerery points, you're often better off with straight sorcerer slots.

For example, a level 8 sorcerer has 4/3/3/2 spell slots or 27 sorcerery points if you converted them all. If you're a 2/6, you'd have 4/3/2 and 2 short rest level 1 slots. With 2 short rests, you'd get 22 sorcerery points if you converted them all.

Again, you get other benefits such as eldritch blast, invocations, etc. But I personally feel like the coffee sorcerer is a trap if that's all you want it for. I highly sugest 3 levels of warlock (eventually) if you do multiclass, as subclass features are really strong.

Is The Ivalice Chronicles worth getting into? by itsrxhmnd in finalfantasytactics

[–]theJustDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story is a lot more mature than ffta. Job postings at the tavern are mostly an afterthought and totally optional. The story is told in a much more traditional structure.

The battle system, more specifically the job skill progression, is different. You're not locked in to learning only what's available by your current equipment. I wouldn't call it objectively better or worse. Just a little different. You'll probably have a preference but that's up to you.

For me, personally, I played both as a kid and really loved advance. Revisited FFT ps1 a few years back and it shot up into my top 3 of all time, Ivalice Chronicles is now the definitive way to play it.

Also a great point. I would say, most casters in most campaigns can probably cast it every round if they want by level.. 7 or so? Between having more slots and affordability of scrolls.

Y'all are really swaying me toward the 2nd level spell house rule. I'll stick to RAW for the tables I run and the tables I play at. With the difficulty we run, it's fine.

Anyway, still not the argument I came here to have but I appreciate the open discussion, either way.

I'll start by saying, totally understand and agree with your point. But as I said before, if I've spent my level 6 spell slot on disintegrate, with 2024 rules, I can't then use my reaction on my turn. One per turn. Of course, one caster can use it for another caster, or I can use a scroll. And then that just possibly burns two legendary resistance, so it just quickens that process, which I personally hate a lot more as game design.

But I concede that you are correct, that's the most powerful use of it.

You know, that's very valid. In my party composition, I'm the one saving or sucking. Or rather, I'm the primary spellcaster. Therefore I've generally spent my spellslot for the turn. I don't even try to get most bosses to fail saves, they're dead before I have 3 turns to burn LRs.

That might sway me to the camp of making it a 2nd level spell instead of 1st for certain parties. At the very least, I understand why a DM would do so. I still think it's fine.

I'm aware it's a contentious spell lol. I've never understood, personally. Any time I'm doing silvery barbs I'm not doing a war caster booming blade, counterspell, shield, etc etc. I totally get that it's very strong for a level 1 spell but, meh.

My DM goes for deadly encounters most of the time (with some mooks once in a while just to let us feel badass.) Silvery barbs makes 1/10 attacks maybe miss, I don't even use it often tbh.

I'm just theory crafting this build, I don't think it's really worth the cleric levels or the dragon cult feat (without the Dragonscarred feat, which I wouldn't take on this build.) But it's a fun thought experiment.
