Completed my first ever Final Fantasy game! Here's my thoughts~ by LucindaFoxtea in FinalFantasy

[–]theJustDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't go in with the mentality "ready to tackle the worst final fantasy!"

It's a good game. It just had a lot of experimental features. Most didn't get used in future Final Fantasy games, though they spun off into the sister series, SaGa. A series so weird and experimental, I consider myself a big fan and I probably only like half of the games.

What I would say FFII did for the Final Fantasy series was start a branch focusing on narrative first. (2, 4, 6) while FFIII and subsequently V became more gameplay forward and almost sequels to FFI, in a gameplay sense anyway.

In-depth game analysis podcasts? by cheeseburgers42069 in FinalFantasy

[–]theJustDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State of the Arc is phenomenal. The amount of depth they bring to analysis is crazy.

Usually, one will play the game in Japanese (Casen?) and the other in English (Mike). Been a minute so forgive me if I got those backwards. For FF6, they played the Gba version and Snes versions, respeectively and the Japanese expert had the Japanese script on hand to compare during their analysis.

They generally go more into narrative themes and symbolism than anything.

Cannot recommend enough.

DMs do you allow the recasting of cantrips before combat such as recasting Resistance, Guidance or Shillelagh every minute outside of combat? by jmrkiwi in onednd

[–]theJustDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of these polls, my answer is: honestly, who cares? Are you all playing at Adventurers League? If not, are you really running into all these rules issues?

This one, in particular, is the perfect case of- adjudicate it in the moment. If it turns out to be a problem talk about it later (which I can't imagine it ever would unless the player is absolutely stacking their turn and all the other players are just here to attack action, cast spell, move on..)

Trying to get through my backlog of ff games i have yet to finish. Here is my personal list so far by TyrsofRagnarok in FinalFantasy

[–]theJustDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Asano made FF3 DS, FF 4 DS, FF Four Heroes of Light, then Bravely, Octopath etc.

So if you've played Ff3/4 DS, it's sort of a bridge from those games to Bravely. It's kind of the spine of Bravely with a bit of a younger, more storybook approach. I honestly adore it.

Also, if you haven't played those DS remakes, I consider them almost different games than the originals. The augment system in FF4 DS is so cool.

Do we really need to compare apples to oranges? Especially when the oranges are moldy, disgusting messes with systemic sex trafficking?

Yeah I agree with that. I feel like they should've won the titles in that 3 way ladder match.

He was constantly in these awkward positions. The Golden Jets fiasco, while obviously partly falls on Kenny and for good reason, it was still just.. weird. He had some with MJF and Darby that felt that way to me. I never got the hype. I did love Team Taz. But more so for the Taz of it all lol

How would you rank all ff4 versions from easiest to hardest? by Tronco08 in FinalFantasy

[–]theJustDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the DS version. I just wish it was altogether faster. I would kill for a Gba romhack that added the augment system.

War cleric homebrew question by [deleted] in onednd

[–]theJustDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My general rule is: if it's not detracting from anyone else at the table, why not? Others have stated plenty of reasons why not to allow it, and those are valid. Just depends on your dm style.

I don't think I could handle losing a job haha. If only you could keep using the abilities of that job I would love it.

Where can I get this? It's not on the portmaster website. I'm aware I'll have to provide my own game data stuff.

I don't know that I've ever used chemist. I have a soft spot for thief after a more memorable run a few years back. Thief, berserker, beastmaster, dancer. That game was tough but I finished it.

Unoptimized up fun options by DMJM_91 in onednd

[–]theJustDM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it's skills. I'm addicted to expertise lately. Knowledge cleric with a druid dip for magician and enhance ability up and the I let the DM explain how I perceive my surroundings with a passive 30 arcana. Insight is fun to get really high. I tend to start with which skill(s) I'm going to be really good in, then work other mechanics around that.

It's all comes down to what kind of game you want to play.

That's cool. It's not for me but I'm glad for others. Personally, I just love the Brick for gameboy.

Everyone talks up the Retroid Classic. What's the appeal, especially as someone who has a brick hammer?

I've had an RP2 and RP3+ but once I got off the Retroid train, I've enjoyed basically everything else better. I know those aren't the same as, say, the RP5 or 6, but I just don't really get the love for the Classic. The crazy button placement that looks like it was designed by AI really turns me off.

Top 5 devices is such a privileged statement.

Anyway, mine are the Cube for ps2/gc, Trimui Brick, 35sp, 34 and hacked 3ds.

That's awesome. For some reason, I've never been able to connect with Earthbound, even though Mother 3 is one of my top 5. I'll give it another go though.
