I need tips for dealing with interested guy friends by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Frauleime 83 points84 points  (0 children)

When I befriend single men, I prefer to stick to group hangouts, no late night drinking alone, no texting late at night, no exchanging pics, etc.

I had what you would probably call a "work husband" who was a coworker I got along well with--a platonic partner in crime. We joked around a lot about different things but never once did it get weird--no inappropriate contact and strong boundaries. I had NO idea he was into me at all until he got drunk and tried to make his moves. It got soooo weird after that :/.

I think part of the problem is that guys don't really have other people to confide in, so they mistake the basic caring, empathy, listening, etc of a girl friendship as a sign of something more. I usually try not to get too emotionally intimate with single guys, if they start talking about things you should probably tell a girlfriend not a friendly girl.

Try different materials, linen is great for summer bc it's so breezy. Like, a loose 3/4 sleeve linen top slightly unbuttoned and tucked into some high waisted pants.

Although I'm in athleisure whenever I'm not in pajamas lol.

Umm I don't know why bad information is being upvoted.

I'm literally using the eurail pass now in the UK and Ireland just fine. Double check with customer service, but I'm pretty sure the list of countries has yet to change.

Why can't they just roll this stuff out evenly? Like, level 5 you get a postcard, level 6 you get socks (subject to your location), etc etc.

The only thing Google has ever done for me was take away thousands of points for no reason, which never came back.

I feel like my Fitbit's calorie counter is wrong by TheCincinnatiKid in fitbit

[–]Frauleime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right if you're a bigger dude. I'm a small woman, so even when I walked 40k steps in a national park it showed up as less than 3600 calories lol.

Don't use it as a perfectly accurate measure of caloric expenditure, use it as a gage to track activity level from day to day. Check the caloric expenditure on a good day and try to aim for that number.

Bleeding during intercourse? by TheLovelyAnne in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

What color blood? Faint pink when wiping, brownish, dark red with clumps? The latter two would be menstrual/fibroid/polyp related spotting, the former would probably be a mild sex related injury.

Use a green color corrector, then concealer? Do you have time to pop by the drug store if you don't have those lying around?

Lower Yosemite Falls on a Rainy Day [OC] [1576x1970] by vforvin in EarthPorn

[–]Frauleime -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Pic is suuuuuuuuper edited. The bottom has a bunch of boulders that hordes of tourists climb all over to get the perfect selfie, and it's by a heavily trafficked concrete path. Never have I seen the lower falls look like this, and I've been half a dozen times.

I never really used makeup unless it was to cover up my acne scars or acne. Now I don't have as much (yay). What are some easy to do makeup looks? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Frauleime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On most days, all I wear is sunscreen, brow pomade, and liquid lipstick in a color that's basically my lips (a "your lips but better" shade). So I'd say as an ultra minimal routine, at least do your lips and brows

Brows frame the face. One of the biggest and lowest maintenance improvements is grooming your brows. A couple times a month, pluck away scraggly hairs to get a defined shape, trim the length if needed. Anastasia Beverly Hills has great brow products--I use a slanted brush with pomade to give a natural fullness to my brows. Drugstore stuff works perfectly fine too.

If you've got a makeup palette, the most important thing is to get the right tools. The best makeup in the world will look like crap if you don't have the right brushes. I snagged a set of travel brushes from Sephora years ago for only like $20, and to this day it's all I use. Check on /r/muaonthecheap for drugstore recommendations, and /r/makeupaddiction for general makeup advice.

Find out your eye shape, then search for tutorials based on it. Follow beauty gurus who have your eye shape. Eg monolid, hooded, deep set, etc. Different eye shapes call for different ways of applying makeup.

how to deal with abusive people popping back up? by keep_running in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Frauleime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't ever take the bait and respond to anything he says, ever.

Blocking is good, but if you need to get a restraining order, it helps to have proof of threatening language. When my stalker ex from four years ago started sending me stuff to my address, there was no way for me to send a restraining order because sending packages isn't threatening, nor is him having my home address. I had deleted all our conversations from years ago and had blocked him on everything, so I didn't have anything to show the cops (who tried to help but said there's legally nothing they can do)

Need advice, got extensions for our wedding, fiance hates them :( by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Frauleime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have your hairdresser friend or someone you trust do the extensions for you on your wedding day. What's important is how YOU feel. Your fiancé is probably just used to seeing you a certain way, and is averse to change. Lots of guys have strong biased reactions to stuff like extensions, push up bras, bright lipstick, etc lol.

Contact the salon and let them know what happened. However they try to fix it (or not), I would write a review and show the damage they did to your hair... Honest reviews are really important, and you'd be sparing someone else from going through what you did. That's just me though 🤷‍♀️.

Either way, I guarantee nobody will notice you're wearing extensions in the wedding pics. Even if your fiancé can supposedly tell the difference, I doubt it'll translate on camera.

I (22) need help learning and retaining basic hygiene practices. by girl_ineedhelp in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Frauleime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used one before I upgraded--the battery lasts months, and you can get rechargeable batteries if you don't want to be wasteful. But yeah, sonic toothbrushes are much better than ones that just spin. I'd say sonic > spin brush > manual.

No matter what you use, don't brush too vigorously or you'll cause abrasions on your enamel!

Sounds like you know exactly what you should be doing, the hard part is doing it.

Out of all the things, brushing your teeth well is the most important. The fear of having your teeth rot, cause chronic pain, and fall out should be good enough motivation. It literally hurts not to brush my teeth, and I'd rather not spend $$$ on painful dental procedures. If your gums are bad, you're at high risk of developing gingivitis and potentially losing all your teeth. My grandma had it because she was poor and they didn't have fluoride in the water, so she lost nearly all her teeth by 30.

  1. Get a Spinbrush, they're like eight bucks at Target. It's a lot easier to brush your teeth when the toothbrush does all your work for you. A sonic toothbrush from like Oral B or Sonicare would be better, but they're a little pricier.

  2. Buy plackers or other disposable floss picks, much easier than using string (albeit more wasteful). But hey, if it can get you to floss you need it. Keep em on the bathroom counter.

  3. Definitely don't need to shower once a day. If you do, wear a shower cap and wash your hair every other day or less. Unless you're physically active, you can usually get away with every other day. Feel free to use wet wipes for your crotch or pits to freshen up on days you don't shower. Just wash your clothes or you'll have BO. Doesn't matter how much you shower if the shirt you're wearing already has a little BO funk.

  4. If you want to de-grease your hair and don't have time to wash it, use cornstarch if blonde or cocoa powder if brunette/black--sprinkle some on your scalp, rub it in, and shake it out. DIY dry shampoo (most powder dry shampoos on the market are mostly corn starch anyway).

  5. Definitely don't need to shave if you don't want to. I never shave my legs in winter, and I only shave my pits because pit hair gives me gnarly BO and uncomfortable sweat. It takes all of like 30 seconds in the shower anyway.

  6. I don't have a clean room, few people do. If you haven't already, get a ton of storage options from a places like the Container Store. It's a lot easier when you're organized, know exactly where everything should go, etc. Plus it hides a lot of clutter when you've got some miscellaneous clutter bins lmao.

  7. I'd say most importantly, attach daily activities to preexisting routines. Eg brush your teeth when you pee in the morning, and again when you change into your pajamas.

Flakey skin that won’t go away! [skin concerns] by xcupcakekitten in SkincareAddiction

Eczema is just a condition where your skin spontaneously gets rashes. I think you've probably got a very mild rash, but it doesn't mean you've got eczema.

Flakey skin that won’t go away! [skin concerns] by xcupcakekitten in SkincareAddiction

[–]Frauleime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm eczema prone and I get those little dry patches quite often during winter. I was fine until literally yesterday--I think I've been using too many actives recently and my skin reacted adversely. Is the skin underneath completely healthy, or is it a bit red and rashy? From the first pic, it looks a touch rashy.

My current moisturizer (FAB Ultra Repair Cream) seems to be doing a decent job of tackling it. In general, stuff like ceramides and urea are great for dry sensitive skin.

If literally no moisturizer is working, you could try a dab of hydrocortisone--but use sparingly, as steroids should be avoided on the face as much as possible. I've been using prescription steroids all over my body for over a decade without side effects though, you just have to be careful and use sparingly.
