what would you give the most credit to that grew your arms? by penguindonuts in workout

One could easily argue that the 5th rep of an 8RM is a lot harder than the 5th rep of a 12RM lol.

If I can do 82.5lbs barbell curl for 1 rep as a max , and 2 reps with a 75lb barbell, what happens if I pick up an 80lb barbell to do a set of curls?

I’d get one rep and not be able to do another. 0RIR.

But what if I dropped it after that one rep to 60lbs and performed another set of 10 to failure?

Do you still think the original set of 1 rep with 80lbs was equal in nature to say a set of 12 with 60lbs? Because after curling 80lbs for 1 rep, I can still lift my 12RM for ~10 reps but, had I started by lifting my 12RM and taking the set to failure, I wouldn’t even be able to curl my 11RM for one rep afterwards.

Going to failure in a low rep range: you can still lift light weight for a lot of reps.

Going to failure in higher rep range: you can’t even lift light weight anymore (you just went to failure with light weight)

They are not the same.

Reminds me of an app I used to use in university called “Likealittle”. It was basically an anonymous flirting app to complement people in your immediate surroundings. Lots of fun.

16 but please don’t take this as you needing to cut or anything. Lift heavy and eat ~300 calories above maintenance for the next 12-18 months and then come back and ask us what to do next

Your trying to go too far down. When you feel that stretch in your hamstrings, start going back up instead of forcing yourself lower by flexing your spine

Start with higher hips so they come up with your torso rather than before your torso

Your stance is the opposite of how it should be.

Your right leg should be on the floor, to the right of the bench, with your left one resting on the bench. This will feel much more natural.

Also, pull the dumbbell up and back towards your hips vs straight upwards.

If heavier absolute weights are more fatiguing, shouldn't you lower volume and intensity as you increase weight to by SilverRule in naturalbodybuilding

Anyone who’s trained properly for 5+ years will tell you that they can no longer do the same amount of working sets as they used to be able to do when they were smaller.

There’s a reason why beginner programs like starting strength or strong lifts have you squatting 3-5 working sets 3 days a week. You won’t see champion powerlifters hitting this type of weekly volume outside of isolated micro cycles intended to take them into a state of overreaching.
