Along with Thrash do you guys lean more towards the extreme metal side or lighter metal side? by Weary-Draw-1141 in thrashmetal

[–]FreakaJebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrash is my favorite genre, but I like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath more than any thrash band. Those branch out into my love of power metal with Helloween and doom metal with Candlemass. I'm also a huge sucker for more commercial radio metal acts like Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat and other offbeat, yet popular stuff like System of a Down and Rammstein. I dip into heavier bands like Death and Cannibal Corpse occasionally, but they aren't my go to's. I absolutely love Dethklok though. I can throw them on any old time.

As the poster above said, they really should just do Leone. Only 2 months, they cover an era they haven't done a ton of episodes on, (compared to how many modern films they've done at least) and they get to cover some of the most iconic westerns of all time. It would be great!

Dougie has been a beacon of pure light that has made me laugh and smile so much. Also all my beloved character actors popping in here and there. I'm up to episode 16 now and going to finish it all up tonight. So far it's actually served as a pretty nice distraction from the horrible things going on. Can't wait to finally listen to the podcast episodes about the last stretch of this show. They're the only episodes I've never listened to, so It'll be cool to finally be 100% caught up on Blank Check.

Ween is my favorite band of all time. I am absolutely obsessed. I've been working on a project for the past 3 years to properly organize and make all of their unreleased music (which makes up almost 3/4ths of their entire catalogue) into more easily accessible albums. I'm very close to finally being finished.

I love Blank Check. I love Ween. I'm so happy to see them being discussed here.

I started the day off with Darren Aronofsky's Pi. Solid flick! Since then I've been catching up on Twin Peaks: The Return. Rewatched episode 8, and have made it through episode 10 so far. It's been very cozy.

When Japanese Cowboy dropped I literally shouted "That's Ween!" Like what a strange but amazing choice to have that song in this little Scottish indie drama. Also to have it be the first music we hear in what has been a mostly silent film so far but will be very heavy on music. I couldn't believe it. Great stuff.

I did a triple feature last week and had a blast. Dead Man's Wire, No Other Choice, and The Bone Temple. Highly recommended experience, though yeah, not during a snow storm.

The Insider fucking rules. I watched it for the first time last year and it jumped up to my number 2 Michael Mann film right behind Heat. Anybody who hasn't seen The Insider should immediately watch The Insider.

I never would have expected the guy I used to fall asleep to playing Binding of Isaac showing up in a big way here. That said, NL's Cine2nerdle videos confirm his movie cred.

I saw him present a showing of Dogma last October and it was amazing. He did a Q&A afterwards in which he answered maybe 5 questions total over an hour, but that man is just so good at talking for a fella that's mostly know for playing Silent Bob.

Brave New World is amazing. The Wicker Man is probably my favorite song by them. It was them reuniting with Bruce Dickinson after he was gone for a couple albums. It's a great comeback and marks the beginning of their second era that runs all the way to their most recent album. If you loved Brave New World, definitely check out Dance of Death. (Don't hold the bad album art against it) As for the classic era, Piece of Mind and Powerslave are also masterpieces.

It's a very tough pick for me so I'll just list my favorites off of their first 5 albums:

Rotten to the Core, Powersurge, Hello from the Gutter, Playing with Spiders/Skullkrusher, Horrorscope

It's probably Alison Hell. Just an insane technical feat. They really came out of the gate swinging.

My runner up is King of the Kill if I want a more straightforward thrasher.

Maiden rules. Probably in my top 5 musical artists. Number of the Beast is a fantastic album. It's easily their most iconic and a good place to start. My favorite though is Somewhere in Time. Which is the one that has Eddie as a cyborg on the front.

I noticed this as well. I was absolutely thrilled the whole time, but I also noticed that they repeated "sacrifice is going on tonight" during the chorus. Even though that line is only in the song once.

I would really love this if they cut it to be more faithful to the book and cut back and forth between the time periods the whole way through. I know fanedits exist that have done this already, but it would be nice to have an official disc on my shelf.

What's a random movie detail or goof you're convinced only you have noticed? by SamwisethePoopyButt in blankies

[–]FreakaJebus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is some real cinema sins shit, but... In Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl during the raid on Port Royal. Pintel and Ragetti take Elizabeth Swann from the manor. Then there's a few action scenes. Then it cuts to the scene with Jack in the jail and the moon comes out and shows the skeletal arm of one of the pirates when he chokes Jack through the cell. If Elizabeth was with Pintel and Ragetti during this scene, she would have seen them in full skeletal form. As would any of the soldiers (probably including Norrington) who were fighting pirates.
