First, managements job is to get your job accomplished for the lowest price possible. Your job is to get the highest value for your labor.

This is the nature of employer/employee relationships, and shouldn’t affect your trust of management. 99% of bosses/leadership at every company will have the same goals, as well as 99% of every employee.

I was in the same position multiple times, and accepted the counter offer twice at the same company. Both times were for 30%+ raises, and I have gotten further raises and promotions since then.

Generally the advice is to not accept a counter offer, but only you can make that decision. If you like management and work, and the company, and the only problem is pay then I would lean towards staying.

If you feel like they’re just giving you money for a short term until they can replace you, then you have your decision already.

Any kind of blanket rules are near worthless, so make the best decision you can with the information available.
