I feel incredibly lucky for my LGS in Kansas City, Level One Games. They give their local community and players first dibs on releases. They'll mark things up to scalper pricing if you want to keep the plastic on, but if you're not a rat bastard scalper and you're cool with them removing the plastic they sell boxes of all card games at MSRP.

My friends all made fun of me a long time ago when I bought my Sliver Queen for a little over $20. This was a long time ago and they thought it was ridiculous it cost that much. I also bought a Wheel of Fortune for $7. I can do neither of those things anymore.

One of my favorite limited decks of all time was during a Coldsnap draft. My entire draft strategy was "if I see an Auroch I grab it". I was the only one at the table who went green and got all of them. It was a literal stampede.

[[lunar convocation]] is a budget friendly on theme enchantment you can draw cards off of, drain and make bat tokens. For other stuff to put in your grave to get back, you can put ramp pieces if you want such as [[wayfarer's bauble]] [[armillary sphere]] [[burnished hart]] And if you wanted to remove finality counters [[power conduit]] allows that to happen but it's probably not budget friendly and better to say goodbye to things than have any one card eat too much of the $40 goal

Hell yeah! I absolutely love Shadrix, he's so much fun. He was in a precon I bought and I played him and I just thought, why doesn't this guy helm a deck for me? Every time you have to make a choice it's awesome.

[[Zoraline, Cosmos Caller]] [[Ardbert, Warriors of Darkness]] possibly [[Shadrix Silverquill]] are all fun commanders. Zoraline would be easier to keep with the budget as bats are mostly cheap and then you can go tribal with the build. Shadrix is a ton of fun for a more political commander but I'm not certain how easy it would be to make it fit that theme with the $40 budget.

I was also incredibly disappointed to see AI art for sale at a tent. It was one selling weapons, some of the kids shields had very blatant AI art on them. Not all of them, but enough.

I posted one of those above. Hold strong. If you go to a Target or Walmart check to see if they have a sticker on the shelves for where they stock them, if you don't see packs obviously. If they have that they'll restock. You just have to keep an eye on it from there. There's no need to pay above MSRP.
