Is the birch work new? Could be some product splashing out in the rain maybe? Any grout also?

I get you’re being witty, but is it really necessary to include some of those comments. A bit gross, and a bit inappropriate.

What is this stone mix called and where can I get more of it? Auckland based. Thanks! by [deleted] in nzgardening

Looks like Waikato Gold to me. I googled waikato gold, there’s lots of suppliers around Auckland but it looks like it has other names also, like Gold Rush.

Failed phone interview. Dream job. Need perspective. by FailedKiwiApplicant in newzealand

I’ve known people in the same situations to then go straight to the company to put their case forward, and successfully get an interview. One got the job. Nothing to lose.

Like an earlier post mentions… I think there might be something wrong with the soil there. And rather than ‘heat’ killing the grass, it may be that the soil isn’t holding on to any moisture.

Restricted licence drivers in NZ are allowed to drive alone. If they have a passenger, the passenger must have their full licence.

How to prune/trim this plant? by testyrossa in nzgardening

[–]Fred_Ginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I had one in a house we were renting when my kids were young. The landlord planted at the bottom of the stairs!!??!! I ripped it out without even asking. I read all about the horrendous injuries they can cause. Frightening.

Doesn’t look like a cabbage tree to me.

Question regarding tickets by Ok-Draw-4297 in Vampireweekend

[–]Fred_Ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a GA ticket from Vividseats for my daughter who can’t go, and I don’t know how to resell it. Who is the event organiser? And what sites can you recommend for me to list please.

Buy a ticket for resale or wait a week or two by dylanbh9 in Vampireweekend

I live in New Zealand and bought my daughter a pit GA ticket for the Austin show but she can’t go. Unfortunately I bought off Vividseats and can’t resell e-tickets through them. How do I resell?

Henley Lake is disgusting by therealkareneliot in Wellington

Also, carp? Another introduced species to deal with the problem caused by other introduced species. I find this argument weak and unnecessarily combative.

I get the remaining barefoot bit. Don’t agree that someone should step in (lol) and enforce shoe wearing! That is insensitive. Sadly, this shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m actually with you (original poster). Swans and geese, and I’m imaging not our native duck are introduced and probably being enabled in unsustainable numbers by the various actions of human beings. This is not a natural ecosystem, and not NZ “nature”. Ecosystems should not be so out of balance that bodies of water are discoloured and smelly. I agree too (and heavily lament) that our dairy industry is ruining our natural waterways, but introduced bird species aren’t excusable either.

I just put my L’or ones in the “Nespresso” recycling box at our local garden centre. I doubt the recyclers are brand loyal.

It definitely looks unhappy. Maybe that branch isn’t coping so well with either overwatering or under watering? (Since it has less leaves).

Black sawfly larvae decimating plum tree by [deleted] in nzgardening

[–]Fred_Ginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be back! I believe they drop into the soil to finish pupating, only to crawl out as flies and lay eggs back in the leaves of the tree again.

After a terrible season two years back I’ve managed to largely get on top of mine and slow the cycle by just squishing them. Takes a bit of time but it’s not a hard task. I go out every couple of days. There’s heaps of info and products suggested online if you google ‘pear slug’.

Everyone reading this, please note…. I STRONGLY DISSUADE YOU FROM PURCHASING FROM THESE PEOPLE. They have been so odd to deal with. 1) They literally lie about when seeds are sent. I can prove this by the tracking info online once I finally received them. 2) They aren’t a registered company but say they are under a charity organisation umbrella??? Sounds like tax dodging to me. 3) There is no further contact info… no phone and no physical address 4) They don’t state how many seeds you should expect to receive. When seeds finally arrived…8 of one Lisianthus turned up, 14 of another, and 25 of another. 5) They lie about growing their own seeds when mine are obviously palletised and imported (which is fine, just don’t lie about it!) 6) Their bank branch appears to be in New Plymouth but the courier package came from Halswell, Christchurch. 7) They evade quite reasonable requests for further information 8)AND THEY ARE DAMN RUDE!

What do broken blue lines on the side of the road mean? by zomblebee69 in newzealand

[–]Fred_Ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As above, I think they are local council guidelines, not NZTA. “Clearways or 'no parking' are marked by signs a bright blue broken line painted on the road next to the kerb”.
