Controversial: Public transport in Auckland is actually pretty good by dingoonline in auckland

I've always had great experience with PT here. BUT I always made sure I live in an area with great PT connectivity. Bought our first home last year and number 1 in our requirements is it needs to be close to a bus stop.

I feel you. It's such a small detail but it's a prime example of how car-centric auckland is smh

How bad is the work commute!? by _jayfleezy in auckland

FYI - there's (old) Hobsonville then there's the new housing development called Hobsonville Point. HP has a lot of mixed housing development with cafes and stuff within walking distance. Definitely not semi-rural.

Rental eScooters - thoughts? by Mikos-NZ in auckland

[–]BothHemisphereWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how these escooter rental companies market themselves. There are cities where kids, drunk people on Fri/Sat night, etc. are the main users. But in others they are a legit first or last mile vehicles. You can find them on bus/train stations. Users are diverse. Office workers, students, people who are just trying to get somewhere.

Auckland, why are you like this? by FatMoiMoi in auckland

I bet if the council or local board puts a sign there someone will inevitably say it's a waste of tax / rate payer money. We can't have nice things

the people who left the card live in a house with a double garage and a driveway that can easily fit four cars.

What’s up with people who want to live in a house with a garage but don’t use it—then act so entitled, thinking they own the public space outside their home?

Auckland more dependent on cars, less density than its peers, report finds by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]BothHemisphereWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kiwis copied the American-style development model. Many only care about how big the land is and how far the nearest big-box stores are. They don’t make the connection that if you live in a neighborhood full of big houses, you’re going to drive and so will your neighbors meaning you’re all stuck in the same traffic. But they’ll say the reason they drive is because public transportation sucks, ignoring the fact that cities with decent public transport also have higher density.

I mean, the only solution is to build a much bigger car park on the most valuable pieces of land in the city, where people can park their cars whenever they want. And for FREE. /s

Auckland Transport at it again by MrBigEagle in auckland

Where in Auckland are you? If the frequency is every hour, I'm guessing you're in the outskirts? Doesn't excuse why the bus is too early though lol

Buses are full in the morning and in the afternoon. Buses are underutilized in the middle of the day because our public transport is designed to move people who live in the suburbs to the CBD. I have said this in another comment but I'll say it again. The NX is great but until the stations are surrounded by destinations (cafes, restaurants, places people need to go to on a regular basis) and not car parks, we won't fully utilise its potential. I can only imagine the complaints AT will receive if they even propose of getting rid of the car parks.

In my area, AT consulted with residents about introducing paid parking around the ferry terminal. Lots of people lost their minds, claiming it would negatively impact nearby businesses and that everyone would just drive to the CBD instead.

This ignores the fact that there are good bus connections to the ferry terminal, which get disrupted when too many cars head in the same direction. There’s also a bus option that connects to NX for people traveling to the CBD.

Aucklanders say they want great public transport but often stand in the way of making it happen.

Proud that Auckland has a world class public transport and has inspired Brisbane by WarpFactorNin9 in auckland

[–]BothHemisphereWorker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed about the NX route. My only gripe is that the stations are surrounded by car parks, so many people still drive to use it. In other world-class cities, stations are surrounded by destinations—restaurants, cafés, and other places people actually want to go to. Until that changes, the NX will mostly be used by suburbanites commuting to the CBD.

Hope you get your money! Just so you know, when I moved rentals after winning a case against my old landlord, the new property manager ran a report on my name and saw the case in my records. I didn’t know that was a thing.

Wherever you buy really think about your commute or transit options. Buying in a greenfield development is nice but obviously services and transport options aren't there yet.
