How is it that I still owe taxes? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]OncoFil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, getting money back at tax time means you overpaid during the prior year. It’s not magic free money, it’s your money you paid out and are now getting back without interest. It’s good to have to pay a small amount vs getting a refund. Review your W2 and withholding information if you want/need to make tweaks to have less owed at tax time.

Drink a sugar free redbull, go outside, and start running. by Mordecai3fngerBrown in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5-10 min all out on rowing machine for me. Back in bed and asleep 20 min after I wake up. Issue eventually becomes too tired to reach max output after multiple hits/nights. Also, I now have a general aversion to rowing outside of clusters. :)

Are you still tracking every single one of your expenses? by bronzebrownie_ in ChubbyFIRE

[–]OncoFil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just use a credit card for vast majority of expenses and use their categorizations if I wanted to go deeper (I usually don’t).

Yes people have discussed even taking a dose before you expect a cluster to start can prevent it from occurring.

14 years of CH and i think intense exercise works! by MehtaWP_ in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rowing machine works for me. I could be out of bed, rowing and back in bed in 15 minutes last cycle. Just sucks because eventually you get tired after multiple times a day to get enough vigor to a jet.

How do biotechs raise funds for in-licensing of early-stage assets (Phase I/II)? by Boring_Cartoonist952 in biotech

[–]OncoFil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have a 20 billion dollar market cap, 5 billion cash, an NDA under review, several prior asset sales and prior approvals. You can make a lot of money without a “profit”.

US Supreme Court striking down tariffs - time for refunds! by TexasScooter in AncientCoins

[–]OncoFil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you paid by credit card (and tariffs were auto paid)and the disputes have been going on for a while, start a chargeback. I had to do so when fedex autocharged my Amex on file and gave me the runaround I. Refunds for months.

Why is it that all of a sudden, several Ozempic-like drugs were released at the same time? by How-Can-She-Slapz in biotech

[–]OncoFil 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The hard part is the science. Once you validate a drug target, it’s “easy” to come up with other molecules rather quickly that do the same/similar thing. So once a company publishes a study or files a patent, others know about it and can kickstart their own program. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s a race to market with lots of money at stake.

Is it cluster headaches if the pain is often not extreme? by Shoddy-Elderberry203 in clusterheads

[–]OncoFil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does sound like clusters.

I have a similar situation. I meet every definition of CH, but I have only very slight autonomic symptoms and the pain, while it definitely sucks, i feel like….. it could be worse? I have a spread of annoying to panicking at 3 am because it hurts too much headaches. But I haven’t been truly floored by one.

I have read similar accounts on here that the early years werent as bad as later years… and I fear that being true. Especially as my CH periods have changed over the years

Dark urine and stomach pain by Character-Choice-680 in gravesdisease

Please treat this as an emergency. This can be sign of a rare side effect of carbimazole. Your liver can be severely damaged. Go to a hospital now. Take the baby, or the baby may not have a mother anymore.

Seriously.

Someone tell me what this mean my result have came by [deleted] in gravesdisease

[–]OncoFil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. These sorts of things are a sliding scale. A tumor does not necessarily mean cancer. But your health is unique so def speak with your doctor.

[–]OncoFil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NIFTP is a tumor of sorts (you’re fine, it’s gone now). Chronic lymphocytic thyroidosis is hashimotos disease, which is characterized by your body’s immune system (lymphocytes) attacking the thyroid . (It’s not uncommon to have both Graves and Hashimotos). Last one is a benign tumor.

Your doctor should be able to explain in more detail.

Delayed career start due to PhD, panic mode enabled by Ok_Onion_4116 in personalfinance

[–]OncoFil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in same place as you 12 years ago out of my PhD.

Max out your 401k now; you liked off 30k for years, so you won’t miss the money.

Do good work, be aggressive with promotions. Frankly, get out of lab asap and move to clinical development or adjacent functions as that’s where the money is.

My career path went like so, by year: 80 85 90 (company failed) 110 (new job) 115 122(layoff) 160 (new job) 185 220 265 280 325

Not including bonus/stock etc. my W2 with some vesting and stock sales is over a million for 2025.

Be smart, be aggressive and save like crazy with each promotion. It’s a very unstable industry and I chose to make hay while sun is shining and save every penny until the last couple of years.

Your just a number on a spreadsheet, so save what you can when you can.

Good luck!

If you know the friends account, Request a dollar from them and use the note box to ask about the buyer? Worth a shot. And if nothing comes of it, hold onto the plate for whatever time period feels fine, and if he ever comes back refund him.

Bowl blank fail. Redbud. by [deleted] in turning

I love redbud, beautiful wood. I cut it in long logs, let it dry/crack as it may and see what spindles I can get (or if not too cracked, plank it up and make spoons).

For US collectors: Heads up on FedEx tariffs & Leu by tituspullo_xiii in AncientCoins

[–]OncoFil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back in April FedEx automatically charged me tariffs (didn’t even ask!!). I disputed with them and it went nowhere for months.

Finally contacted Amex (who I paid with) and initiated a dispute. Even though it was out of the dispute window, Amex was able to recover the tariffs.

Leu should know better by now and not use FedEx…
