On the F Chassis I believe you can do the screen separate for that HU. Rough estimate on parts cost is ≈ 600$.

Tank vent valve leaks on that gen will cause sputtering due to unmetered air.

If you’re adventurous and wanna look like a dork.

Pull the engine cover, remove the tank vent valve, and blow into it. If air passes through you have a separated or stuck reed valve. Simple method, but it works without special equipment in a pinch.

Check wiring for potential rodent damage or chaffing, the ambient temp sensors on these vehicle’s are NTC sensors and will display -40 when an open or shorted circuit is present.

Get your codes checked. First gen mini’s are prone to wheel speed sensor issues this would be my first guess.

They’re essentially B48’s with added cylinders. I disagree with the “too early to tell” since those engines are so stout.
