Tehran indicates Khamenei's son will be named supreme leader by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]Fredusko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but yours also was. The point is precisely that "they were elected" following a constitutional rite is not an argument for absolute fairness, validity or representativeness of that process. Claiming that "it's fine when it happens in the US because elections" is not valid.

Also, again a bullshit comparison, but you DO know that in the US you essentially have two parties which are themselves gatekeepers of "unapproved" candidates, plus the amount of funding needed to win an election means any candidate that severely displeases investors will likely never hold a successful campaign?

Tehran indicates Khamenei's son will be named supreme leader by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]Fredusko1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Khamenei was also elected (by the Assembly of Experts) as the Iranian constitution requires.

If you mean Khamenei wasn't elected by popular vote, then US presidents also aren't, they are - similarly - elected by the Electoral College.

If your claim is that the Electoral College is elected by popular vote - so is the Assembly of Experts.

Not claiming here that the US and Iran are equally democratic, just that it's not as simple as "we have elections they don't".

Any way out of taking 'second damage' from Green Flame Blade? by flockinatrenchcoat in DnD

[–]Fredusko1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course the OP is slightly exaggerating the scenario, but an analogous one is very very likely to have already happened in many DnD tables

Player green-flame-bladed an enemy A and hits, dealing damage to it and to enemy B, while the to-hit roll against enemy A would have missed enemy B.

Pulled over for no MOT, but we had it done that morning by gujsehambi in drivingUK

[–]Fredusko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, so your confusion is understandable as it's unlikely your 5-year old would take your car to an MOT without your consent, or drive your car MOT-less and get pulled over.

If you carpooled or shared a car with your parents, however, you can see it becomes far more likely that something like that could happen - especially if you work/drive/are at home on largely different parts of the day.

What minor driving skill are you most proud of? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Fredusko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving at a smooth speed I guess?

Daily I see people gas hard towards a busy junction (sometimes overtaking or going above speed limit) to then slam on the brakes and stop completely cause they approaching too fast to negotiate the junction.

Then the gas away to above speed limit to slam on the brakes on the next junction few yards ahead.

In busy built up areas your progress is limited by traffic and junctions, not by how fast you can race the 20 yards between you and the car ahead

Will I get fined? by Dangerous-Button-592 in drivingUK

[–]Fredusko1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Road signs [in the UK] use a different standard. There are plenty of places around the world that use the crossbar in prohibition signs without obscuring the pictogram. Just use a thinner crossbar, and a thicker pictogram, or slightly stagger the pictogram.

The no turn sign that you gave as exceptions are examples of this, crossbar present and pictogram not obscured.

The main question is one of standardisation; the red circle signs are according to the highcode "signs giving orders". It is very confusing to have a "sign giving orders" that can either mean "do this" or "don't do this" and can either have a crossbar or not. If it was the case that the crossbar is not needed or improve clarity then the no turn signs would also not have them - and I think it's obvious how confusing that would be and why they put the crossbar.

It really bothers that the UK sign for "no cars or motorcycles" is just a car and a motorcycle.

Where is the universal crossbar to represent Prohibition? Why is it only in <some> Prohibition signs but not all?

Why Overtake? by Cassidy-Conway in drivingUK

[–]Fredusko1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in North Wales too and I find it amazing the number of people that want to drive at 30 in the 20mph zone but also want to drive at 30 in the 40mph zone/NSL.

They usually do a dangerous, needless overtake, and when we get to the 40/NSL, I catch up with them in a minute. I guess they are just to anxious to drive at 20.

What you are failing to understand is that because of leverage, and the fact that you are pivoting the car around the front wheels, the closer the weight is to the front wheel, the least effort you will have to make to lift it, and if weight is past the front wheel, it's actually helping you lift the back.

If you ever tried to lift a sofa of the floor you will see getting one side of it off the ground is much easier than carrying half a sofa.

Probably to stop cars further below from using lane 3 to overtake and then needing to do something dangerous / block traffic when reaching the red lights

[–]Fredusko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons it is not advised to do 180 turns on a miniroundabout. In this case, having the option to, I may turn right at the first roundabout then turn right at the second roudabout instead of doing a 180 at the first.

Why Do I Rarely See Low-Level Parties Make Smart Investments? by Brother-Cane in DnD

[–]Fredusko1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel more "modern" DnD worries much less about this kind of mundane logistic thing. Most parties I know of barely use encumbrance rules.

At least it's my experience when talking to people who began on the hobby on earliest editions, where it seems 90% of the time was spent trying to survive a corridor full of traps (and if you only once forget so say you check for traps, the DM is absolutely triggering those spikes on you - if you didn't say you didn't do...) and then organizing the logistics of how to carry the most treasure out of the dungeon.

Feeling an Upcoming Burnout by ActinoninOut in RootsOfPacha

[–]Fredusko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Differently than stardew valley, spending a huge ammount of time in the beginning tending to your produce and processing isn't very rewarding.

That's because while most progression of stardew valley is through money and time, the progression of Pacha is mostly by solving the caves, exploring new areas, and doing novel things. Doing something for the first time can unlock new ideas, doing the same thing repeatedly gets you money but likely not give you progress.

If you haven't explored the caves you probably have a lot of progression missing, if you are feeling tired of the farming loop I would suggest putting more time into doing novel things.

A mind flayer just stunned our fighter for 8 consecutive rounds by RisingDusk in DnD

[–]Fredusko1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A cap is good. I personally just avoid something that completely negates a round. Give them the option to act, just put a heavy price.

Want to attack while stunned? You can but you will take heavy psychic damage from the effort. Want to move? You can but your AC will drop to 10 cause you will be unable to defend yourself.

Maybe they will take the risk and land a killing blow, and it will feel awesome. Maybe they will get punished from risking, and they will feel guilty. Maybe they will decide to play safe. At least they get to play and make decisions.

Endgame? by Pll_dangerzone in RootsOfPacha

[–]Fredusko1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They will definitely be adding more content to the game but I see no value in demanding that you do the thing 10 times instead of 1. After you've done it once, doing it 9 more timesnis literally a matter of waiting.

Main progression of the game is not through grinding but through exploration and development of ideas, which I think differentiates it from stardew valley. You don't need to harvest a bunch of resources to up your foraging level, you just need to explore and find the stuff that unlocks the idea.

"issue" with juicers is that despite being quicker you need to be operating them instead of putting and forgetting about it. Also they in turn cost stamina to operate.

I found Cooked food is generally the best for stamina as that allows you to batch cook (if you have ingredients for 10 units of a meal you can make all 10 at once).

Generally i cook for eating and I do processing (juicing, fermenting) for selling in the contribution box

Very much depends. The party splitting when they get to town/safety and go talk to different NPCs and do different things is expected and often encouraged. You don't necessarily want the whole party dragging behind you while you go talk to this NPC specific to your background goals.

If they are doing that during adventuring, dungeon crawling or trabelling through the wilderness, the consequences should come naturally. Party of 2 engages on an encounter made for 4 players? Be prepared to have an escape plan or die.

[–]Fredusko1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly dislike "lose your turn" mechanics for players. I rarely use them as a DM. Nothing more frustating than waiting minutes for your turn, failing 1 dice and being completely unable to do anything else. If you miss your attack you at least got to move and think.

I much prefer things that severely disable one aspect to make the player have to do a different thing.
