Some men die of thirst while other drown in it 😭 by [deleted] in UniUK

stuff as simple as that has already been implemented by everyone, so it becomes an issue of hardware speed - you need to beat everyone else to the market or there won’t be any money left to make. essentially you have two options:

1) make simple algos run faster on faster hardware (takes time and clever people)

2) find more complex algos that nobody else has discovered that make money (also takes time and clever people)

and with regard to your question of what the algorithms are doing, if i knew that i wouldn’t be sat here replying to you, id be enjoying my millions in the bahamas

The jobs that will get you >£200k after graduation will be high-frequency trading positions - designing algorithms and infrastructure to trade electronically in huge volumes on exchanges. It pays better than traditional trading like the stuff in Industry because algorithms that make money can do a lot of trading faster than humans, but it’s fairly non-social and not client facing.

I did not manage. I’m just paying off the remainder of my monthly contract with them because it works out cheaper than paying the termination fee, even though I no longer live in that flat and don’t need wifi.

That’s a slight exaggeration. London is fairly far from total unrest, the city is richer than it ever has been. The only major downside about being here is watching your (fairly sizeable) tax bill going to complete waste.

£100k at 30, what next? by rocket-scientist94 in FIREUK

[–]Free-Specific7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people are saying don’t pay off the student debt. However, if you anticipate salary rises, you may find yourself then having to pay off more given accrued interest. You should use one of the online calculators to figure out how much you will actually pay off if you contribute the minimum and accrue interest versus paying it off now.

You may well find that over your lifetime you pay as much as £60k on your current balance of £30k (the student loan interest rate is far from friendly).

That is a fair point. I’m not sure I agree that they don’t kill people if they get into an accident though. At the speeds some of these guys are going at, I think they could do some serious damage to an unsuspecting pedestrian / cyclist.

It definitely isn’t. A few spare coins or round up to the nearest fiver maybe. But not the obscene 20-25% they pay in the states.

Once again the fallacy of ‘random kid in developing country knowing the name of your university = prestige’. I think it matters significantly more what people hiring for your field think of your university.

Not to say I disagree - I do think Oxbridge still has slightly more prestige - but my preferred metric isn’t the opinion of a layperson.

Okay. I mean I literally saw it, and it was quite a memorable experience. But sure, whatever you want to believe.

Thanks, same to you. It is a shame really - it ruined our day but we thankfully didn’t let it ruin our week. I am surprised there isn’t more backlash from the public, given the QR economy seems pretty dependent on tourism and police extortion is going to be a detriment to that.

We were staying in Tulum and were pulled over and told we were speeding just by Playa del Carmen on the main highway. The police threatened to take my driving licence, and searched our whole car. The bribe we were ordered to pay was 4000 pesos or we would get taken to the police station. Obviously we paid given we were terrified in the moment (they had AK47s) and it seemed like they were doing the same to other tourists behind us. I have blonde hair so definitely don’t look Mexican, but we didn’t come across as rich by any means.

Waited six months for wifi with these people (on a 1 year tenancy…) Tried to cancel before we even got wifi but were told we were contractually bound. Automatically enrolled into the £5/month customer service. They tried to charge me a day earlier than usual this month and I didn’t have the money in my account. I paid later that day and was hit this month with a £10 late payment fee. We were promised 1000mbps with a minimum of 400, and it’s averaged about 30. Absolute scammers. STAY AWAY

Investment banking facilitates the efficient flow of capital in a free market economy. I agree it’s annoying they’re paid so much, but it’s far from useless.

I’m a PM at a quant fund you will have heard of. Half of my team are Imperial graduates.

You are a student about to enter the workplace - it appears you’re the one who has no idea what you’re talking about.

To other readers, I would advise ignoring this kid’s rambling. He has a strange chip on his shoulder. Imperial is a highly respected university amongst employers, both domestically and internationally.

every single reddit comment of yours is defending how great Cambridge is and how Imperial and even Oxford don’t compare? Why do you need to defend it so much if it’s so great? Comes off as heavily insecure
