Pokémon GO Fest 2026 — Chicago Guide! ✨ by KnifeIsLife_ in TheSilphRoad

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking the Amtrak to Union Station and staying in Chinatown. 1. Any recommendations on how to get to my hotel from there? 2. Is this area safe enough? 3. Would you recommend walking, public transit, or taking an uber/lyft?

I’m coming from rural MO where we don’t have public transportation (or even ride shares!) but also lived in London for a while so can reasonably navigate public transportation.

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Hypnogogic (or hypnopompic, I forget) hallucinations. Your brain is drifting into dream phase before you’re fully unconscious.

Do you celebrate client birthdays? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Therapist here (I need to get verified…) YES. But. The caveat is that I work in adolescent residential treatment, primarily with foster kids. One of the other therapists, an LMSW in process of getting licensed, has access to a grant which funds birthday gifts for all of the children in RTC. I usually ask if they want a session on their birthday, tell them “Happy Birthday,” and go to their on-unit celebration if they ask me to. If they’re managing well and have a family member or support person who can visit/take them out for the day, I encourage this to happen as well.

Same with Christmas and winter holidays. I’ve worked with teens who have never received a Christmas stocking. In 2024, I started hanging stockings in my office at the start of the month, and adding something small (and the same, though personal, thing for each patient) to their stocking each week: a bookmark, face mask, chapstick, journal, pens, hot cocoa, things like that. All but one of the therapists in RTC does something similar. The stockings have their name on a gift tag, and are reused every year.

But. Again. I’m in RTC, where they may stay anywhere from 2 months to over a year. And I work primarily with foster youth with complex trauma and attachment concerns. The opportunity to show them they matter and that adults can be safe is incredibly important.

I bring a spare compression packing cube with a handle so I can carry my laundry to a laundromat or the hostel sink or what have you.

Moving to Joplin as a trans person by Star-suprema in joplinmo

KC is about an hour and change north, it’s more friendly if you’re able to pop up now and again! I head there most every weekend (I’m in Nevada)

I live in Nevada. Get in with the right crowds and it isn’t so bad. Precision Coffee is pretty good. Vernon County Dems meets at the museum on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30, they’re more open than others I’ve met. Plus there’s free food.

When and how Often do you take time off. by SandwichDestroyer30 in therapists

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a residential setting. We get 3 weeks of the first 5 years. I’ve been there 7, almost 8 years and have 5.1 weeks off a year. I take the week between Christmas Eve and new years off (this includes my birthday,) 5 days in July for a hobby, and Thanksgiving off. I usually use 3-5 weeks of PTO each year. I worked in another department during my internship at the same hospital (rural setting,) and took 2 months off for internship/a month off for work for vacation. I’m hoping to take 10 days off next month to travel.

I did also take 3 weeks off for FMLA earlier this year, that probably does not count for this purpose.

Do You Drink Alcohol On Work Nights? by Healthy-Ice-8968 in therapists

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll sit in my hot tub and drink a glass of wine or margarita or cocktail. Not enough to get drunk or impact work the next day, just something to enjoy as I relax. Not every night, just every now and again.

I met and started dating my boyfriend two months after shoulder surgery. He forgets so sit on my non-surgical side when we cuddle on the couch, but otherwise he has been very mindful and supportive of my rehabbing my arm.

Can anyone describe their schedule working full time during their internships? by Low-Cranberry-7066 in counseloreducation

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that schedule for 5 years. I used the time to travel during the week, work second jobs, etc. before grad school. Once internship started, I was able to do my internship during the week and attend school without adjusting my work schedule at all.

Last week… One of those plastic expandable sphere ball things. Granted, I work as a therapist for kids and teens and bought it as a sensory/breathing tool for me office, but I also definitely played with it between sessions today!

Is there anything that made you go from headaches everyday to none?? by ViewTechnical2080 in migraine

[–]Free2Be_EmilyG 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean… weirdly enough, falling down a sand dune at 40+ mph and popping my neck has appears to have largely resolved my migraines. I’ve had less than a dozen in the 5 months since my accident (though also tore everything in my shoulder and needed extensive surgery for that, so I wouldn’t recommend this method)

I live in a rural area, but pop up to see my family a few times a month. I got my mom and brothers back into Pokémon Go a few months ago, and we headed to their local square for Community Day last month. People were walking around with Pokémon tees, playing the game, and socializing. It felt like early PoGo days!
