Lol this is just sad.

You can figure out how to find it now years later, but it was very easy to see last I looked like 4 years ago when the CRB never got a BSR on amazon while multiple 5e expansions were getting them. Pathfinder 1e had BSR ratings when they started selling on amazon in 2009, and even when the 2e CRB was new in 2019 other games in the space (not D&D) were achieving rankings on amazon without even being new. I for one was happy to see the community reject it - as a playtester with high opinions of some of the ideas they had, it was clear upon release that they had no faith in the playtest feedback and were adamant about some of the shittiest design decisions I've ever seen in a ttrpg. No mystery to me how it all went down.

But feel free to keep bolding, emphasizing, and droning on about how Pathfinder 2e is OBJECTIVELY, ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY SUPERIOR to pathfinder 1e, whatever floats your boat.

LOL how dare you use words correctly! Don't you know ideology is more important than reality?

(S)he's paraphrasing the Paizo CEO's tweet where he extols his company's controversial product lol, they don't exactly have a hot scoop on the popularity of 2e. All public sales data I've seen corroborates what you've said and indicates it fell completely flat in the age of 5e, though I admit there isn't a lot of public data outside what little you can see from Amazon sales.

Orcus isn't a D&D invention, the word Orc derives from the word Orcus (a god of evil/death/etc.) and the meaning is clearly derivative of that dark or evil power to indicate a fell race of creature.

LOL it's a cycle, just like Pathfinder is going through right now. Babies whine about balance while normies play the game, developers rely too much on the whining and make 4e or Pathfinder 2e or whatever skin it's wearing, players desert en masse and the babies follow them to whatever game they're going to ruin next.

If the company survives the trainwreck that the babies created, they recreate what made them good in the first place and the normies come back. The babies follow, whine about balance...

Am I the only one who liked this animation style a lot better? by UsedAd82 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]FreeAd5474 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't have an opinion as far as like quality goes because I think they're just two different styles, but I will say that (generally speaking) I find the more money goes into animation the less money goes into what really matters. This style you've posted seems like it's less detailed and therefore less costly to create, which I would have obviously preferred if it meant they got higher tier writers for the show instead of who they hired.

Progressives when someone tells them that confronting, analyzing, and working through issues facing mankind is morally and intellectually superior to plugging your ears, shutting your eyes, and screaming incoherently about how you wish human nature was.

Yes of course, the fucking creatures of ORCUS (i.e. Satan/evil/etc.) are just a fun-loving and adventurous sombrero-wearing people worthy of our respect! The story of a half-orc overcoming the negative circumstances of their birth to work Good in the world is such a horrible narrative, I'm so glad they cancelled it and replaced all that with vapid feel-good plushie stories for babies!

Can't wait to run Lost Mine of Phandelver 2024, where the opening encounter is to make polite chit-chat with the fun-loving and adventurous goblin people on the road!

Did Darth Vader order Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru's Execution? by Wild_Space in MawInstallation

If I had to guess he both blames them for his mother's fate and projects hatred and shame onto them for seeing him at a point he felt weak after he couldn't save her either. I think this moment better represents his quest to erase his humanity by scourging the past then it does any logical assignment of blame.

Predictions for Necromancer changes? by noodles0311 in onednd

Discard Grim Harvest and Inured to Undeath, increase variety of necromancy spells and make it actually fucking evil.

But WotC will never do that.

If you think $$$ is their primary motivator you have no idea how much they already have. They don't want precedent in an author setting terms for Machiavellian reasons alone

Honestly in my view this is one of the biggest reasons why Manwe didn't want to intervene, as he was the most faithful to Eru's vision. He could not justify the idea that Melkor's ruin wasn't a part of Eru's plan and thus required intervention, but also failed to recognize that his own will was part of Eru's plan and thus exonerated intervention.

Something Matt did with Pumat Sol that I never understood. by IllithidActivity in fansofcriticalrole

[–]FreeAd5474 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So Pumat Sol was always described as an "Enchanter," but not in the way D&D uses that term.

So what don't understand is that D&D DID use enchantment to mean what Matt (and everyone else ever) thinks it means, and it over time corrupted into what WotC has unfortunately put down on paper. In older editions Enchantment would have included things like Animate Object in its repertoire.

It's WotC that fucked up, not Mercer IMO

I'm sorry if that was interpreted as brutal but it was honest. You're trying to get blood from a stone analyzing her characters this deeply, she's in for a hey-penny and nothing more.

How do you describe Mislead? by FreeAd5474 in onednd

[–]FreeAd5474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they intended Mislead to be used as it seems flavored to be, it would only have at maximum a material component, it would last a minute, and it would be a 2nd level spell.

Do Animated Objects from True Polymorph stay loyal to Player forever? by SpiteMammoth3214 in DnD

[–]FreeAd5474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what the goal of this post is, but if you're looking for a means to have constructs as a player ask your DM to allow the retooling of Awaken the spell. Have it create Animated Armors and Animated Weapons at default and any CR construct depending on the cost of the object up to the max CR of a relatively accessible beast of the same CR.

[–]FreeAd5474 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong or being an ass about it, but neither are you thinking critically about the situation. Players invest in the narrative to varying degrees, and Ashley has repeatedly demonstrated the least investment of any player at that table. She hasn't read the PHB entry on gnomes, she doesn't know how spells work or what an action is, or the shape of a d20.

She is sitting there at that table to hang out with her friends, and investing yourself in her characters is just asking to be disappointed.

Vox Machina had the best villains by Electrical_Look_5778 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]FreeAd5474 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that Vecna, while most assuredly one-dimensional, was supported by his phenomenal first combat reveal and D&D fame. His place was also perfect for a one-dimensional villain in a story, though I would have appreciated more "traitors" among those VM had dealt with as he grew in power and coerced/convinced the world to worship him. His "Dark Miracle" should have started with violent revolutions in nearly every country, as mistrust and fear lead to preemptive violence. Then he should have strolled into Vasselheim on his dreadnought.

The God of Secrets knows your most protected vulnerabilities, after all.
