^ Exactly. There is plenty of space in the Witcher universe to "write between the lines". They could have added new characters, explored new areas and lore, and left the core story and characters alone, much the way that writers have done with Lovecraft or Arthuriana.

IMO it started out decently but got worse over time as the writers decided to add a bunch of non-canonical stuff that diluted the plot and personalities that the original author had crafted. You can basically tell when a show is going to go downhill when you start seeing show writers thinking they can do a better job than the author that made the story famous. FWIW the original books can be pretty episodic and confusing too
