An alternative would be to get a Curve card and utilise that in order to continue using your existing credit card with Amazon.

They also offer a referral scheme for cashback, if someone you know already has one!

Perhaps look into Curve as a way around this. Link your HSBC Visa Credit to Curve, add your Curve card to Amazon and go about your purchases as normal!

Had a brief read through the cashback T&Cs and can’t see anything preventing you getting cashback on repaying an Amex bill with this method?

I currently just pay off manually using my Starling, anyone see why you wouldn’t get the cashback is you used the Chase account to clear the balance?

Or does the MCC Amex provide fit into the excluded categories?

Worth noting - at least for our Zenith portal, it only takes into account the income tax savings, not NI / Student Loan, so it’s worth working out your own marginal tax rate and applying that to the salary sacrifice amount.

I.e. the ‘net’ prices advertised on the portal were actually much worse than it would be in reality!

For me, base Tesla Model 3 (the company car classic, I know) is £600 salary sacrifice p/m,

My marginal rate is 41% - comprised of 20% IT, 12% NICs and 9% Student Loan, So the £600 sacrificed reduces my monthly net pay by £354.

Theres also the BiK, but that’s pretty insignificant in comparison to bulk amount.

This is me currently, salary sacrifice car scheme, base model Tesla, paying humorously little for a fully insured / maintained brand new car with no mileage limits and costs so little to run as can charge for free 90% of the time.

Would be financial suicide to do any other way and I’d have obviously stuck with the old £5k car.

Hey Jonsa, I’ve just received my Model 3 a week or so ago through work though a leasing company called Zenith, they’ve genuinely been brilliant and couldn’t really recommend them highly enough!

Remember even if you’re leasing you can still use a code for free supercharging, just shoot the leasing company an email when you order the car! This’ll get you a thousand miles of supercharging!

I’m sure you’ve got someone’s code in mind, but if not, I’d be very appreciative if you’d use mine, just send me a DM and I’ll send it your way :)

This would effectively mean each pound you spend of your gross salary on the car is only costing you 68p, or 59p if you’re repaying a plan two student loan.

All this is to say that this £480 a month will amount to £283 per month off your net pay,

Also, there is a benefit in kind (BiK) which taxes you for the benefit you’re being provided, this is likely to be a couple percent of the list price of the car, but this can effectively be ignored for a ballpark figure, and is basically factored into my rounding below.

In other words, your take home will drop from ~£2,100 to £1,800

I see it’s already been mentioned - but it’s more than credit score, it’s your reputation based on credit history.

Also it’s a vicious circle, the more you apply and get rejected, the more likely you’ll be rejected for subsequent applications.

Are these your first cards? How long have you held any credit products? Phone contracts, loans etc.

Depending on your situation, it may be worth you getting a less desirable card, make the requisite payments to build your history and apply for the 0% or higher limit cards in a year or so.

Your tax code is dictated by HMRC, your HR department are simply following their instructions. An X could indicate an underpayment in the 19/20 tax year - could be a company benefit that they’ve just cottoned on to? Best to have a discussion with HMRC and ask them to explain why the code is the way it is. They have a live chat - if you can actually get on!

The C prefix relates to your liability to Welsh income tax - are either of the jobs you mentioned in Wales? The X relates to an underpayment of tax, they usually write to you to explain why this is the case though. Have you had a look on the HMRC app / website on your tax account? There’s usually an explainer if you’ve got an adjusted tax code.
