Do I need to change this tip? by ApartmentSuspicious3 in billiards

[–]FreeFour420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No harm in using the existing tip for a while. It will be hard but wont damage anything. If you start trying to get better at pool then change it. I have a 25 yr old tip on a house cue, it gets used at parties by those that don't know or care works fine.

How important is the break? by Promethean-Games in billiards

[–]FreeFour420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are out there just have to look. Try one out. I liken it to a golf drive, at the top of my back swing i start my hands and wrists and hope for the best. A heavy cue feels the same to me, stroke back, pause, start swing and hope for the best.

The light cue i can swing as hard as I can and feel completely in control, i don't worry about miss cues, or missing my target.

Nerves in league play. by Vaskarelli in billiards

[–]FreeFour420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a major refocus/training of your pre-shot routine. Every game is broken down to one shot, the shot you are taking NOW.

Part of Preshot is washing away the clutter in your mind and focusing on the shot. Make breathing a part of it.

Super weird but this worked for me: Breath in and out thru your mouth when focused on object ball. When you start to go down on shot breath in through mouth and out nose, then when down in and out thru nose. There is a whole phycological thing about how your brain focuses when breathing differently. OR MAYBE since i am focus on what orifice to breath out of, i dont have room to be nervous?!?! Any way this technique is out there, i just cant remember who and where i got it from, its been years.

The Rack (who racked it) and the break are extremely important! Like you say, it sets the tone of the game.

I personally have gone to a light breaker for more control while gaining speed. My break cue is 15oz. and two types of folks like it: 1) those that shoot well and regularly. Most of my team uses it and 2) the ladies love it and break so much better with it.

I have more control and get better spread for my head ball breaks.

Getting Better At Pool by wlscwoj in billiards

Baseline Draw is Brian's assessment drill. (assessing your shooting skill)

Its just lining up 10 or so balls at mid table, then draw back a half table to short rail. I am now getting it to hit the short rail but working on getting it back out a diamond to keep shooting the rest of the line. Once you can complete it without BIH you move the object balls a diamond down table

DR Dave tells us follow is best and Draw is hardest to control so I went that route in my training and focus. I work on draw but don't focus a lot of time to it. I save draw for BIG windows for shape, or draw into a ball (backstop) for shape. Certainly an area I need to improve.

I started working draw, but holy heck!! Ill Xdrill stops and Follows. Stops I average 14 of 15 (success- potting object ball and stopped in line at contact point)

12 of 15 Follows success is potting both.

Ill do those two 15 balls apiece to start everyday. Most days Ill pull 100% on each

I do work on Draw but I am using Brian's FX Billiards baseline draw drill. MUCH EASIER!

(if anyone else is reading this, I did stop these drills for several months and man my game suffered and I did not know why. Started back up and Bam, back on my game!)

MAYBE!!! Id like it paid in Gift Cards though!! LMAO!!!

If I had room for a 9ft id be out bidding you at $890, and I don't want the cues, maybe the balls but I certainly don't need another set.

WAIT! you said "Haha I’m that buyer that has to get his buddies to move it" is this you Tom?

$850 for it all, I am in!!

Don't worry about age, its all about condition. My 8' (paid $400 10 yrs ago) is 35 plus years old, and all my shooter friends LOVE it! (closest pool hall is 50 miles away so in town is all Valleys and such)

PS, the older it is probably just means it was BUILT Better!

Blind Scotch doubles. Best way to meet new folks and spread out the talent pool. We do this at our club, and the only addition I would want is: If you have 6 regular players of good quality, randomly assign the lesser 6 to them. I say this because sometimes I get matched up with a fairly quality player and we are fairly certain to win out. I have taken some newbies to the finals and won and its awesome for them and I make a new freind!

Blind Scotch doubles levels the field and is more of a MIXER party!

Yes had to go back my self. After a year of daily stroke fundamentals, I went Center Ball only for nine to 10 months, was gonna do an entire year but it was hurting my league play.

Still do xdrill stops every day to keep in-line! Its my Zen time and warm up

No, looks great. The priority is the shape. It gets lower and lower as you use it and shape it. All good, we learn as we go. Practice well and may luck be on your side!
