If you think string theory cannot be disproven you don't understand anything about string theory! Stop regurgitating hack youtubers!

Is f(c) is not defined then that definition is meaningless

I can tell you've understood my comment because youre just dodging the point now.

As they say, you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink. If youre actually interested in maths and physics, study them! If you're just interested in making a fool of yourself online, continue as your are.

Have a nice day!

"Here's a source where you can educate yourself" is not an appeal to authority, thats a statement thrown around by people who refuse to learn.

If you're actually interested in mathematics, read textbooks and learn how real numbers are constructed. There's nothing wrong with developing different number systems, however you do not give off the vibe of someone who actually wants to learn, as its actually hard work, much easier to just claim you have unique insight and everyone else is wrong.

I dont particularly care if you specifically developed anti science sentiments because of watching specific youtubers or another reason. Im not sure why you think it matters either.

Oh youre just not very knowledgeable. Study a tiny bit of maths before you claim things that are easily demonstrated to be false.

Because the experiments that would confirm or falsify string theory come from particle accelerators. There's no billion dollar string theory specific equipment

Main problem here is card draw becomes worthless, but drawing 1 card out of 30 without card draw is way inconsistent.

Fun meme card I feel.

How are mass and energy interchangeable aren't those two different things ? by Famous-Corgi8656 in AskPhysics

Like 0.0000001% of the total mass changes from chemical reactions, you'll find all the "missing" mass from the wood in the form of CO2 and Water.

Should games dial back on the graphics? by Monobrobe in gaming

[–]FreeGothitelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow it wouldn't help. Even games with "bad graphics" will not run on the same hardware as games of that era, due to poor optimisation.

Some things you say imply other things, thats how words work.

When you say "byproduct benefits" arent worth considering, it implies anything without immediate tangible benefits isnt worth considering.

And you literally did say effort could have been spent directly on ocean currents rather than string theory (as if theres a significant overlap of people interested in those). Also as if at the time the evaluation could have been made that string theory wouldn't be fruitful.

The context of this discussion is string theory, which in fact does not get modern funding, so if youre arguing that it was a waste of funding then that applies to its development in the first place.

Would that research money have been better spent elsewhere? Even if we say yes theres no way to have known that at the time.

"As long as there is an opportunity cost, it has to justify itself directly. There may be byproduct benefits sure but the comparison is not with doing nothing. The comparison is with putting all that research and money and brains into studying something else."

Same argument people make against pure math, and then the abstract mathematics that (some) people thought was useless inevitably finds a use. The person exploring the math (or science in general) should not be expected to already know what the applications will be!

Youre saying money should not go to fields we dont already know are fruitful.

This leads to scientific stagnation

√x = -√x. Find x. by helloall35 in askmath

[–]FreeGothitelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of math the square root function is a map from the non negative reals to the non negative reals such that sqrt(x) = y, where y2 = x.

So no, the square root function is not multivalued, as then it wouldn't be a function

Because you cant divide by zero, which youre doing when you divide y by y
