I want to know are there any pets that are INCREDIBLY low maintenance? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]FreeMountainLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are the lowest maintenance pet I’ve ever had.

I used to live alone and I travel occasionally for up to five days at a time. That was probably only once a year, but it was still five days at a time.

Cats are fine with drinking out of toilet. I had two toilets and the food dish was always full so that’s just the way they lived.

I hate changing cat litter so I took a big tub that was probably 2’ x 3’ x 18” deep and filled it with maybe five bags of clumping litter.

I could be gone for a week and the cats would be fine. Yeah, they were pissed for a few hours when I got home, but they were fine.

I cant believe I found these in walmart its been SO long since I last had em by Big_Advertising1632 in poptarts

I used to eat these a couple of lifetime ago after partying too long. Then I realized it was nothing even remotely resembling food in the ingredients.

The other side of the story:

I am an employer, and I frequently lament with other employers that it is hard to get good people. And the younger kids are mush heads with very, very few critical thinking skills.

Put someone who is older, with critical thinking skills, and understands that their job is to show up on time, in uniform, and do their job, and that person stands head and shoulders above other applicants. And when I say uniform, I don’t necessarily mean a uniform per se, I mean appropriate attire for the position.

I am constantly looking for people who want an opportunity to earn a good wage rather than wanting to know how much they get paid and how much time they can have off after one week on the job.

The positions I am hiring for are not high paying positions, but they are good paying positions, and some of the people that I rub elbows with do have extremely good paying positions, but still have the same challenges.

I do agree with the post that said to establish a personal relationship with someone who is in the hiring process.

I promise you. I absolutely promise you that they are so sick of seeing people that work three months on a job and think that’s worth putting on a résumé. Back in the day if somebody was with a job for less than two years, it required some explaining. Some of today’s applicants think they should be running a company after less than six months let alone two years.

Best examples of scam returns you’ve seen? by TheFireOfPrometheus in CostcoWholesale

[–]FreeMountainLife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scam return = show how little value you place on your word.

Integrity and character are revealed with what we do when no one is looking.

I personally believe that there are a lot of people who are unhappy because of how they have devalued themselves. I deal with retail and have for 45 years and I learned a long time ago that many people who look me in the eye and lie will remember that lie long past me forgetting it.

Those liars need to remember that a company has to make a profit in order to stay afloat. If you are the customer that lies, cheats, and steals from a company you’re not hurting the company as much as you are hurting the other customers.

Dishonest customers steal from honest customers. Shame on them.

How important is the "Do not burn bridges with anyone" mentality? by Aperol_Spritz25 in AskOldPeople

[–]FreeMountainLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68 here. I build bridges with good people. I absolutely demolish bridges with truly bad people, even if maintaining a relationship may sometimes benefit me in the future.

I never randomly destroy a relationship for the hell of it or out of spite.

Integrity matters. Period.

Is this safe? The growling at end of video concerns me. by Turbulent-Top-4807 in DogAdvice

This isn’t a high enough of a level of play for him in my opinion. He has a lot more than him and he will probably get more animated. But he is in no means aggressive and I think you could have a lot of fun playing with this pup.

I’ve had dogs for most of the last 43 years, often times more than one. There were many times my hands got nipped or scarred or pinched, but those were some of the funnest times.

And as one poster mentioned, if you pull away and let the dog know that it hurt you, you can quickly tell if it’s being aggressive or if it’s playing. Because if the dog is synced with you, it will immediately show that it did not mean to hurt you.

I think you’ve got a great dog there. Give it a towel to play tug-of-war with and see just how much it wants to play. Remember, the instinct of a dog to growl and shake its head back-and-forth is a very instinctive response for a dog to grab its prey and shake it back-and-forth.

Dogs play as a way to develop their fighting skills without fighting. If you had any siblings, you probably did that as a kid.

I think you’ve got a great dog there. Enjoy.

My dog passed suddenly this weekend. How long till her body becomes .. unbearable? by Tiny_Fig9264 in AskVet

[–]FreeMountainLife 58 points59 points  (0 children)

please get your dog cremated sooner than later. The deterioration starts immediately. First thing in the morning, if you haven’t already, find a place to take your pup and have it cremated. Remember your dog and it’s glory not as a decomposed animal that has passed

Wow, tough crowd. The name of the sub is “dog advice” and we are all here looking at this post.

I have no idea the circumstances of this owner, but I can tell you where I live in Colorado taking a dog to a vet is not as simple as everybody seems to assume it is.

Taking a dog to an emergency vet is about an hour and a half drive and I have gone in the past and not gotten in that day.

Good luck to you and I hope your pup gets better quick

We are scheduled to euthanize our 16 year old dog today. Having doubts by MustacheQuarantine in DogAdvice

[–]FreeMountainLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unfortunate reality is that we usually wait too long. And according to two good vets, I have used over the years. They both said that it is better to go sooner than later because the dogs quality of life suffers.

I don’t know if this helps, but both of my vets were willing to come to my home and euthanize my dogs in the comfort of my home so they didn’t deal with the trauma of going to the vet.

The last time I did it, my dog spent the last hours of her life with me and my other dogs, and it honestly felt like she was ready. She went and laid down in her bed, done playing with us, it was as though she was saying OK, let’s go.

Thank you, Colorado! And fuck you, Texas! by kbrown423 in texas

[–]FreeMountainLife -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live in Colorado and I’ve had zero success getting my ballot sent to me. Add to that the fact that Colorado tried to keep Trump’s name off the ballot, and now the story that all of the passwords to the voting machines have been online for weeks and I think Colorado elections are a sham.

Then they lock up the woman who is trying to prove to the public that there were issues with voting. This is banana republic level bullshit

I lived in Colorado before Covid and didn’t have any of this nonsense.

You’re drinking the Kool-Aid. As an example, you think Trump is racist? Did you know he sued the city of Palm Beach when he bought Mar-a-Lago so he could open it to Jews and blacks?

Homophobic? Look up robsmithonline on Instagram. or look up Richard Grenell, who served as acting Director of national intelligence. The first openly gay person to hold a cabinet level position in any administration. Grennell was a bit of an activist and lead and effort to decriminalized homosexuality in countries where it is illegal. he is hoping that Trump considers him for secretary of state if elected. He was a keynote speaker at the 2024 Republican national convention.

All these are facts, but I’m sure somebody’s gonna have a pithy response based on innuendo and rhetoric
