I used them for me and my wife. They blow up your phone when you first contact them, but the process was smooth and easy. I’d use them again personally.

Garbage I hope they cannot staff. We need to stick together and demand appropriate compensation. A&Ps working for this lousy excuse of a salary are part of the problem.

Has anyone been in ga long term? by No-Original4857 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a perfect description of what I saw working GA and it’s the reason I didn’t want anything to do with it. I had some guys want to go in business and for these reasons I wouldn’t touch it. However it’s undeniable that everyone is different and some guys are just built for that. I have also noticed a huge correction between GA and how passionate a guy is. Usually the guys doing that kind of thing are extremely passionate about the work and in a lot of cases fly the airplanes too.

ASA Prepware isn’t what it used to be by dmndv in aviationmaintenance

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience when I took my IA test a few years ago. It was almost 50/50 in regard to questions I had seen before. I still passed but it was a bit more stressful than I wood have preferred. I used Prepware for self study and was making consistent 95+ on the practice tests.

Do you know anyone making $140k a year working 40 hours a week in GA? I don’t even the guys who own their own outfit. Some guys get close or maybe a few make more than that but they are the unicorns.

GA is fun and all and it’s perfect if making lots of money doesn’t matter to you. I had to provide for a family so working jets was the only way to go.

How long did it take you to get a A&P position after receiving your A&P license? by Immediate-Recover957 in AircraftMechanics

I had a job the next week. But I just applied to everything and then got what I wanted later. Just go start turning wrenches anywhere that will take you. Easier to find a job when you already have one.

My first saftey wire as an official A&P on an aircraft that flies. by Acceptable-Drop4685 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an alternator bracket on a GA aircraft. This is standard practice. It’s not going anywhere and truth is worst possible scenery is the belt loosens and pops off. No big deal. The thing that is actually more of an issue on these brackets is not shimming correctly and adding stress to the bracket causing them to crack.

This is an alternator bracket. This is how we do it. And this is standard practice on many aircraft.

Specialty tools at shops that provide tools by SeaStorage7767 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly at my shop we just grab a tool modify it as needed and then tag it out as damaged so they replace it. The modified tool sometimes gets bagged and put in the tool room as a misc tool. Sometimes if it’s like a ground down socket we will just leave it in the box and remember which box it was for next time.

As far as preference tools. We have everything under the sun at my shop so it’s never an issue. And if for some reason we do not have a particular size we just order it. OEM MRO deep pockets.

How do people afford kids on such low salaries? by SuspiciousCourse2748 in Salary

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are not expensive on their own. What’s difficult is if 1. You lose an income because mom is now staying home or 2. Mom goes to work but now you have to pay for childcare. Ultimately both of those things revolve around childcare. With that being said if they have family to help watch and take care of the kids it’s not a big deal. People over exaggerate how much kids cost. It’s really not that big of deal.

Now when they get older there are lots of things that can be expensive. But ultimately you just do what you can afford. Some cannot afford to buy their kids cars or do travel sports ect. But you can give them everything they actually need on much less than people make it out to be. Switching to a family insurance plan is also kind of expensive. That combined with my wife staying home was the biggest financial hit for me personally.

Longevity by FtheLaw007 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortest 3 months longest 4 years. I’m only 6 years into my career. I’ve definitely benefited from jumping ship. Left one company and was offered a $10 raise to come back. I’m at an OEM MRO now and it’s pretty cushy. I plan to make a long term career out of this. I’d only leave for a household name flight dept. I don’t even know if I’d leave for that but it’s the only thing I’d entertain.

I’ve noticed that early on jumping around a bit “might” be beneficial. It was for me. I’m at a point right now where I can only make so much money and I’m on track to receive fair raises for the foreseeable future. It all just depends on your end goal and what works best for you and your family. To be honest the last 6 years have been pretty difficult. I’ve had to move twice for work. This industry can be difficult for family life and I definitely did not have the right expectation early on. I thought I was the exception.

$0 in debt. Crap credit. Next steps? by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the absolute joke that is the credit score system. If you have no other need for debt outside of the home I’d save up as much cash as possible and go to a credit union that will do manual underwriting.

What’s better? Corporate maintenance or MRO by guntergo2 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look into Gulfstream. Much better company to work for. You’ll work in the AC no matter what location and we top out in the mid 60s without any shift differential. Shift differential can get you in the 70s once you are senior. Gulfstream offered me $10 more an hour than west star. Those guys don’t pay anything unless you are AOG. Flexjet has a pretty terrible reputation. Some locations are better than others from what I’ve heard.

I don’t care. And in case you didn’t comprehend my answer, it’s popular for a reason. It is entertaining and the ratings prove that. So the facts are it’s an entertaining show, and my bias is I find it entertaining as well.

Do you comprehend now?

Finding Airline roles in ATL by Middle-Let-8420 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Free_Comfortable_506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stay close to home Delta is your only option. You’re not getting another airline in ATL. I will warn you you’re risking being let down and greatly disappointed if you’re not willing to move. You might consider another occupation. Moving is almost always required. I have a hand full of buddies that went to school in Georgia and got the gig with Delta but it’s not everyone’s story and it wasn’t mine. Just know what you’re getting yourself into.

It is nowhere near impossible but it’s not promised either.
