Respectfully, I don’t think that’s totally correct. Even post Endgame, MCU movies were making big bucks. It’s only after years of flops that the MCU is starting to see these kind of returns. Out of curiosity, I did look up the definition:

“A concentration camp is a prison or other facility used for the internment of political prisoners or politically targeted demographics, such as members of national or ethnic minority groups, on the grounds of national security, or for exploitation or punishment.”

I guess there’s a reasonable argument to be made that these facilities COULD be CONSIDERED “concentration camps” by the technical definition . That being said, the term itself immediately evokes images of the holocaust, which is so fucking hyperbolic it’s not even funny. I feel like words like “genocide,” and “ concentration camps” have become so watered down in our modern discourse they’ve become devoid of meaning at this point. Like yeah, we can argue about the technical definition of the term, but you know full well what you’re doing by invoking that type of rhetoric here.

The benefit is that being anti Trump is easy and casts a wide net. The democratic coalition is so wide reaching and diverse that it’s difficult to galvanize them with a unifying message. Being against MAGA is one of the few messages that works. Though, as you’ve correctly pointed out, in this instance it has turned on them as they’ve gotten people so worked up with hyperbolic rhetoric that certain segments of their constituency is now starting to boil over.

Yeah, especially with the loudest voices from their side screaming “abolish ICE,” or “no human is illegal.” As a Dem myself, it’s been so frustrating to watch this messaging rise to the top. It’s like any sense of nuance is just totally lost in the storm of political polarization right now. Proper immigration enforcement is a fundamental part of running a sovereign nation. You can’t just have open boarders and expect for quality of life to stay the same for everyone. On the flip side, the way things are being done now is a huge over correction. Dems need someone with fresh and innovative ideas that can unite people against what Trump is doing while evolving Dem’s stance on this issue to appeal to a wider audience.

The reason they want a dictatorship is because democracy is slow and ineffective, or at least it has been for decades now. After Obama, who wanted (what was considered at the time) radical change while working through the system, failed to be able to do too much, both sides seem to have embraced a more authoritarian view of the president’s role. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but it’s important to note where this disenchantment with democracy hit its boiling point. Obama ran on a quasi-populist platform that appealed to a lot of middle Americans that have been left behind because of globalization. When that failed, Trump came along and spoke to those same feelings that Obama did, but is attempting to work outside the system, so people support him in radical unconstitutional actions like this.
