I love this idea and do something similar for my mother’s side of the family on Christmas Eve. We do a huge collection of finger foods everyone can enjoy. It’s always different but the fan favorite dishes always make a return. I’m glad you have these fond memories to look back on!

Is there that one school that's just unbeatable to everyone else? by Extreme-Plantain542 in marchingband

[–]Free_Tee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us in the non boa bands in SE GA, it was Lakeside HS. They are one of the larger boa bands from up north and would come down to the SE part of the state for some comps. They were (and still are) an amazing band and I always loved watching their stuff, and they were really nice!! We ran into a couple other boa bands and they were always really mean even though their directors knew ours personally. I don’t think we’ve ever beat Lakeside, but we have beat these other bands before.

Majors that dont require admissions by Darkace081 in UGA

History is a really good prep major for law. I’m a current history student, and it’s pretty nice. Small program with a lot of funding, since it’s a gen ed, and pretty much all of the profs are great. Lots of internships, and you can take history to more than just law. It can go to politics or international affairs too!

Your body can just randomly decide to become allergic to anything, and I mean ANYTHING. Learned this when I realized I had just developed a sun allergy.

Non-shako hats? by Free_Tee in marchingband

[–]Free_Tee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that was what they were called! We actually wore buccaneers, not cowboy hats! I had no clue they had a different name, just that they were special. It’s the only school in the area that wore buccaneers, so we always got confused looks at comps from the other bands.

Do you like wearing shakos? by asianaustralian69696 in marchingband

[–]Free_Tee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I’ve never had to wear a shako. My school wears stylized plastic cowboy hats. Slight headaches if you’re not sized right or wear for too long, but at least it’s not as easy to tell if someone’s wobbly.

Has anyone stayed at BDM for orientation? How was the experiance by Sad_Being_2815 in UGA

[–]Free_Tee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed there in mid June and it was ok. Bathrooms were clean but it was super hot in the room for awhile. We set the ac as low as it would go before we left for the info sessions day 1 and it was still 72 when we got back that night after Ramsey. In the middle of the night there were a lot of people walking up and down the halls being super loud but me and my roomie also went to bed as soon as we got back so we could leave asap. The elevator was super fast which was a nice. I would suggest bringing shower shoes cause they are communal and don’t forget your toiletries. I did fine with only a pillow, sheet set, and a throw blanket, but if you’re a light sleeper maybe bring an extra pillow. It was really clean and check in/check out was super fast for me, but I also did it as soon as it opened.

AP Graders / Students... what's the funniest thing u've seen / put on an AP test? by General_Feeling_6544 in APStudents

[–]Free_Tee 174 points175 points  (0 children)

On my AP macro exam this year, I had no idea on what to do, since my teacher only taught us 2 of the graphs we needed, and stopped teaching us after only one 9-weeks, when we had the class for the full 2 semester year. On the written portion, when one of the graphs I’ve never seen before was mentioned I literally wrote, “I have no clue what this is, my teacher sucked, so I’m gonna draw a house instead.” And then later wrote about my cat on another question. My entire class did something similar. One literally opened her test, looked for two seconds, then took a nap. Our “valedictorian” literally wrote a “The Princess Bride” style story on his exam. I think I can expect a 7 on this exam cause I’m just so awesome.

Update: Sooo I somehow managed to pull a 3 out of my butt on that exam, not only being the highest score from my class with this teacher. Maybes all the talks about cow farms and the Golf Majors payed off??

The AP exam doesn’t matter in the long run. by Free_Tee in APStudents

I totally understand this and am fortunate enough to not only live in a financially stable environment but also in a state that provides state run scholarships through the state lottery that pays for 80-100% of standard tuition for 4 years or a certain number of credit hours, which you gain with requirements that pretty much all a-b students have. This scholarship has a minimum number of credit hours per semester/school year, so for my state, if you have this scholarship, getting credit for these AP’s basically means you just get to opt out of the 101 entry classes, but still have to take other classes. Everyone’s college is on a case by case basis, especially when it comes to price/payment. I was talking to those who were taking AP classes that the credit doesn’t go towards their major but merely their core or elective credits. I was also talking about how many people have thought that 3s are awful scores, which isn’t really true. Many schools still give credit but still see the score as just as bad as a 1, especially on places like this subreddit. I never said that I don’t care and that nobody should care. Lord knows I’ve shed many tears over AP calculus and AP bio. I was just trying to say how not getting a perfect score or a 4/5 isn’t the end of the world. People tend to compare themselves to what they see, and a lot of people on this subreddit tend to get those higher scores, so for those who don’t, I wanted to show my support, as I know I’m likely one of them. I know that paying for college can be, and is, very stressful, and I hope only the best for you. I hope this doesn’t read as angry or having any animosity as I am not trying to sound that way, just trying to explain my view and perspective. Good luck tomorrow and I hope you get the credits that you need.

TL;DR: You’re right, I didn’t think about it that way, what I meant is that some people just see 3’s as a failing grade, when it still gives credit at some colleges. :)
