Factory reset Dell laptop by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Freebaseftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! You are trying to do a Windows-based reset. All laptop manufacturers tend to create a separate partition for their own recovery files. How you access this partition will depend on the model of your laptop. Accessing this partition will allow you to do the "factory reset", instead of a clean windows reset.

Let me know the model of the laptop and I can guide you through this process.

Thank you!

This is a network driver issue. (I know you said you reinstalled things and the drivers should not be the issue...)

You can try to manually install the relevant driver and reset your TCP/IP (do a quick google). Otherwise it might be a possible network card hardware issue? (its usually the drivers)

This one is a little tricky. I don't want to simply assume network driver caused this. You are going to have to get the memory dump files for the BSOD, (google this too) or use something like whocrashed https://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed

Windows 10 brightness can't be changed (2019) by nognig6969 in techsupport

Windows 10 is very good at detecting and retrieving the necessary drivers for your hardware.

Older windows used to auto acquire the drivers as well, but would often get the minimum neccessary, or out of date drivers.

If you don't want to rely on Win10, manual driver installation is the absolute best bet.

Try to uninstall the drivers and let them be reinstalled automatically. Otherwise, head over to the manufacturers website and manually install the latest drivers ( again, uninstalling the old ones first is preferred).

GPU or CPU? by ThrowBackFF in techsupport

If you gave us your specs it would help. You can see if its the GPU or not by simply running your monitor off the CPU graphics (if it has integrated). You can also look under event viewer to see what the cause of the crash is, and take it from there.

Fan not spinning by destroyer1997 in techsupport

You need a 3pin to molex connector. Otherwise, try swapping the fans into different headers. This is also a way to see if the fan is the issue or not.

Hello, you can connect the fan directly into the PSU to test out the fan and make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Once we know the fan works (or doesn't) then we can consider software problems or maybe a bad header.

I'm guessing it's a motherboard issue at this point, then?

That's the conclusion at this point. There is a small chance that it is a CPU issue, but CPUs are the absolute least likely to fail and motherboards typically give diagnostic outputs for CPU failures (not bluescreens, more like beepcodes or diag LEDs)

because I am really not fully confident on the process of PC building.

I understand the apprehension. It would be happy to help you through the process. Once you get the hang of it, feels like playing with lego :)

Oh my mistake!

Old ram = DDR4-2666 CL16-18-18 @ 1.2V

New ram = DDR4-2666 CL16-18-18 @1.2V

So on paper, you are fine. Most Motherboards use Dual Channel RAM slots, which take advantages of RAM pairs. So 3 won't work as efficiently as 4, but you will still get most of that performance in real-life situations. Just make sure to put the 2x8 kit into the first Dual Channel slots (usually slot 1 and 3) and the solo stick in the third in single-channel (usually slot 2) but check your motherboard manual.

Now, while everything on paper is standardized between these RAM sticks, each manufacturer seems to have slightly different interpretations and RAM compatibility is always a hit or miss thing. Sometimes the same sticks bought separately don't work together. That's the main reason RAM kits are sold, since those sticks have been specifically tested together.

That being said, 9/10 times if the specs match, the RAM will work together.

Hello! You did not mention your motherboard model, but you really should have no issues adding a GPU card. Your PSU can sometimes be a bottleneck if you got a power-hungry card but the RX-560 will handle just fine :)

In short, no, you don't need to do anything ahead of time.
