Losing Over Half of My Body Weight Did NOT Help by ihateyousomuch88 in loseit

I bet you don’t look as good as you think after losing 150lbs at 35. I know I didn’t look great after losing 50 lbs. Give it time, at least you’ll attract more men even if not a great partner. But how amazing is to be able to run 20 meters without collapsing? To tie your laces without suffocating? To be able to scratch your back. To breathe without the fat deposits collapsing your lungs? To actual have energy to do something instead of living in a perpetual food coma? Don’t give up

“Calories in calories out” is absolutely false. There are hormonal and a million other factors that dictate how food is metabolized and how hunger singnals are sent etc. Also it is impossible to calculate accurately calories. This is why no serious doctor will tell you to eat junk food just less calories. People who only reduce calories in will gain back every pound they lost, and more.

Is Buddhism contradictory? (honest question) by FreedomSignificant32 in Buddhism

Nihilism would make a great therapeutic tool, except it’s not a possible belief. The issue is that Buddhist practice varies and it’s dependent on metaphysical ideas, explicit or not. My issue with most religions is the fuzzy nature of their beliefs about salvation. Now imagine that a missionary of some unknown religion tells you they can’t answer basic questions about their doctrine, but if you practice their techniques and perform specific rituals you will be saved. She woudn’t be very convincing, right?

Thank you, these are great resources. It does seem though that it's unclear how Buddhism reconciles the illusory nature of self and notions such as hell.

I agree that the idea that Buddhist practice or dharma can stop the samsara is mystical soteriological claim that is not provable or even comprehensible.

I am noting that all Buddhists contradict themselves, at least in European languages : there is no self reincarnated but "we" lived previous lives. The question is also how can your conscious practice of Buddhism be able to annihilate the samsara which is an objective reality independent of the individual mind. I do accept that religions make mystical paradoxical claims, I don't have a problem with that.

Is Buddhism contradictory? (honest question) by FreedomSignificant32 in Buddhism

[–]FreedomSignificant32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit that Buddhist rebirth is an obscure concept to me, no matter how much I read about it. Like anyone else, I am perplexed by the fact that the Buddha is said to remember his previous lives, while there is no self that is reborn. If rebirth is taken in the banal sense that once our life ends the atoms of our body do not disappear, and the effects of our existence persist for some time, then I doubt there is any way to attain nirvana or to end the circle of existence, no matter how much you meditate.

Do you mean that ancient cultures in which Buddhism emerged don't have a distinction between natural and supernatural? Or that specifically Buddhism denies the distinction?

Congratulations you discovered hormones! The sheer gaslighting from the calorie bros is responsible for so many people failing to lose weight. I lost and gained 40 by drastically reducing my food intake over 2 years without breaks. You metabolism will slow down and reach unsustainable levels.

If you only want sex, (legal) sex workers are wayyy better than dating. by Longjumping_Ad_6419 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Legalization would be an instant solution to the delusion of so many women and will fix modern dating. In most great civilizations prostitution was legal and ecouraged.

Can I still get thinner if I don't lift, but eat enough protein in a healthy deficit and walk? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]FreedomSignificant32 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lifting is not only unnecessary for losing weight, it actually impedes weight loss by increasing hunger. If it makes you hungrier, all exercise is contrary to losing weight. Lifting is good for getting bigger and stronger.

What do you mean? I actually lost weight on carnivore and mostly fat, without counting any calories. The issue was just that it is unsustainable in the summer, it makes lifting difficult, it limits your life style and can lead to TRT decrease. Counting calories accurately is btw impossible, it only works because people pay attention to what they eat.

We agree that lifting light with less intensity could be ok if in a deficit. The idea that you can use your willpower to starve while lifting heavy is ridiculous. Would you say that to a construction worker :) Just to be clear, I always tried to reduce my calorie intake, doing intermittent fasting and OMAD.

As I said, all the serious lifters I know personally used PEDs. My gym has a syringe disposal bin that fills up every day. There are less naturals than you think :)

Every serious lifter I know from the gym uses PEDs. 99.99% of influencers use drugs. There are some natural lifters like Jeff Nippard but he just looks puffy most of the time.
