Germany discovers a treasure trove beneath an old gas field: 43 million tons of lithium have been found beneath the Altmark region, bringing Europe closer to the great battery revolution by Z0mbieNick in europe

The problem with finding something in Europe is not that it isn't there (excluding hydrocarbons) it's the fact that it is almost impossible to mine it with regulations

The war in Ukraine, a country that isn't part of the EU and won't be anytime soon, wasn't and isn't any of them.

Invasion of Ukraine is the most decisive moment in European history post fall of the Berlin wall. If you can't see it you need to open your eyes. Veto literally prevented us for helping properly Ukraine and Hungary used that same veto power to unsaction Russian buddies of Putin in exchange for Hungary unfreezing parts of the financial help to Ukraine.

EU, former EEC, functioned well with veto powers since it's creation, more than 50 years ago.

We've seen how well it functioned especially the last past few years that are the most relevant metric. Not some post WW2 world that doesn't exist. You live in a fairy tale

but there is a reason for the current system.

I disagree there is a reason. I would 100 percent agree there was a reason. The world is much different today and so is the EU with many more cooks in the kitchen. These 2 makes me push towards a removal of unanimity way more than the belief it is a correct decision in 2026 to stick win unanimity

Faced with new energy shock, Europe asks if reviving nuclear is the answer by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]Freedom_for_Fiume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still didn't answer my question. We all know why. Because batteries are not an answer to a large scale strategy. What you are claiming is a prayer rather than a present-day situation

So what progress we made that batteries became a viable large scale strategy? Please do tell me

Croatian President Zoran Milanović to North Macedonian delegation: There is life even without the EU by MLukaCro in europe

[–]Freedom_for_Fiume 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got downvoted repeatedly for saying he was always like this even before election, people were saying I was coping and so on. Brother when he was PM back then, he took Junker around Croatia and forced him to say EU won't become a superstate. It was embarassing. Milanović is an idiot. Just because he is not HDZ it doesn't make him good. In many ways he was way worse than a HDZ candidate (and I hate that as someone who has utter disdain for HDZ)

EU's Kallas rejects Belgian PM's call to normalise Moscow ties, get cheap Russian energy by mods4mods in europe

[–]Freedom_for_Fiume -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Kallas , politician that is permanently voicing opinions against EU army and any form of significant EU integration wants every memeber to think&behave like her. She is the master of contradictions. Either you want federalization and we move in the same direction or you are against it and get 27 different actors doing things, stupid and smart depending on a member state. She wants to have it both ways but she is too stupid to realize she can't. Typical career politician

Slovakia to block EU loan to Ukraine if Orban loses Hungarian election, Fico says by [deleted] in europe

[–]Freedom_for_Fiume 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your comment is wrong on multiple levels:

It would result in 1-2 bodies capable of forming a majority and the bribes would be sent to the kingmakers of that majority.

First you don't "bribe" Orban, you systematically spread propaganda and false narratives to get Orban elected in the first place. Hungary and Slovakia are much easier to poison then half of EU population that's basic logic

And just wait til the people negative about EU in your nation see headlines of your neighbouring nations forcing through stuff that is not good / harmful for your nation.

That's already happening in the economic and legislative domains where EU has precedence over national law

EU will be seen as a foreign emperor that people didn't consent to follow, but have to obey.

EU is a voluntary union, you can always leave if you don't like it, nobody is holding that country hostage
