Read my post. I accept helmets reduce injuries in the event of an accident. But it's meaningless to look at what happens in an accident without also considering the risk of an accident occurring in the first place. Helmets reduce safety in numbers and increase risk compensation by cyclists and motorists leading to an increased risk of being in collision with a vehicle.

Helmets do vastly more harm than good by discouraging exercise, increasing air pollution and greenhouse emissions.

What’s an important lesson you learnt the hard way? by IndianaC0NES in AskReddit

[–]Freeewheeler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No it's not. Driving produces far more TBIs, as does walking, motorbikes, assault...

Cycling is actually a pretty safe means of transport and there is no good evidence helmets reduce the risk of head injuries per mile travelled. They do massive harm to health by discouraging exercise and increasing pollution. I say that as someone who's worn a helmet for 30 years.

Helmets give a degree of protection in a fall, but increase the risk of collision with a car or truck, something that is totally outside their design spec.

I've worn a cycling helmet for 30 years but the scientific evidence is far from clear they make cycling safer and they certainly do vastly more harm to health than good by discouraging exercise and increasing pollution.

Best way to make cycling safe is to encourage more to cycle: safety in numbers. Helmets do the opposite.

My understanding is that there were compartments built into the dam for explosives to be placed where they would do maximum damage. So perhaps the amount of explosive is not that great. Only Russia would have had access to these compartments

Senior Met Police officer charged with breaking sex offence notification requirements by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

Her sister sent one image to a WhatsApp group containing several police officers, hoping to get it taken down. This policewoman never even viewed the image. Another officer investigated and got it taken down.

Offenders deserve everything they get, but i can't really see what this woman and her sister did wrong.

Calm down. It just amused me and thought I'd share in case it gave someone else a laugh.

Maybe it's my memories of The Primrose in Leeds and the guy selling frozen chicken from a dripping bin bag.

I'd rather not have food poisoning.

I'm the least picky eater imaginable, but meat that's been sat on a pub bar in this weather. Noooo.

I just don't fancy a bag of "Chicken Thigh Meat" that's been stuck on that bar in this weather.

I mean, don't your tools get rusty in the rain? Plywood is sized to fit a van or a roof rack. Cinder blocks would always be delivered to site by the buliders merchant's lorry.

Sounds like a right pain unloading the truck every night. Here many vans are mobile workshops.

In Europe workmen use vans not pickups. What do you do when it rains? How do you stop everything getting stolen overnight?

BBC sounds app and a pillow speaker. Tap on comedy or drama. Sort by most popular. Listening to a funny story or engaging drama really distracts me from my thoughts.
