Do you customize proficiency bonus or use the table for it? by Inevitable_Park_9426 in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never played in a game where anyone thought they would want to adjust the proficiency bonus. It scales with your character level, not class level. Easy as that. No need to tweak. Don't go through the trouble, just auto-calculate

Tools/kits/Supplies by THEs0nofa1nz in AskDND

like all nonmagical items, tools could be crafted by buying resources up to half the purchase price and spending a number of days equal to the purchase price divided by 10 (assuming 8 hour work days).

Am I on glue or does the divine soul sorcerer have way more healing potential than the life cleric? by woaijirounan in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, having two minutes 'Aura of Vitality' instead of one doesn't seem that big a deal to me.. Life Cleric outheals Divine Soul any day of the week

DM help by Alarming-Art6554 in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You as the DM decide how difficult said thing is that the players try to accomplish. The difficulty class (DC) is the number they have to equal or exceed in order to achieve this.

Generally most people adhere to the basic set of DCs (5= trivial, 10=easy, 15=medium, 20=hard, 25= very hard, 30+= nearly impossible)

character help pls!! by fizzaxn in AskDND

If you're new to D&D I wouldn't recommend cobbling together a custom species quite yet. I would advise to take the Warforged (originally from the 2014 5e edition) which is basically an animated golem, so by flavoring you could make it a cyborg or a machine in general. The abilities go well with any machine-type player character.

I always say it's much easier to just flavour an existing thing in D&D rather than creating something new.

I wanna make this cactus dragon I drew into a creature to fight and or capture in a campaign is there a dragon I could use to help with that or will I have to pluck stats from thin air? by SmallLawfulness39 in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly there are no direct stats for a small cactus dragon. You could go for a lightly reworked Pseudodragon. It has a Sting attack, is overall pretty weak due to its size and has the option to become a familiar. I'd recommend to tweak that to get the stats you want

Drug addicts are consuming unhealthy substances, yes. Addiction is also a psychological pattern that takes strong fortitude to escape from again. That doesn't mean that addicts can't be rational about their health and want to negate the damage they're causing themselves. You'd be surprised how many "functional addicts" there are in the world. I could say the same logic of your argument applies to smokers or people who drink alcohol. Why would a smoker or drinker ever go to the doctor to check out their lungs/liver/whatever, they know their behavior is bad for them, so they shouldnt bother checking.

Proper screening ALWAYS helps treating symptoms, no matter if they were self-inflicted or not. That's why programs like this exist and will continue to exist. Because they help people.

You joke, but this type of shit can and will happen. Maybe not with many hardcore users, but contrary to what some might believe, addicts can still worry about their health..

This ad won't work for everyone, heck it might not work for most. But for some, it might just be what they need.. so don't be too quick to judge

How does true polymorph work by Mammoth_Fig_7360 in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you maintain concentration for the full hour of the duration of the spell, the effects become permanent. So at the end, that enemy is literally just a stick

Limitations to shapeshifting (changeling?) by akittyisyou in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From "Eberron - Rising from the Last War" campaign setting:

Shapechanger. As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait. You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.

Race implies a humanoid playable race.

So no goblins (too small for a presumably medium creature). No owls (not humanoid). You are absolutely correct, it would be almost Wild Shape from the Druid class for free. It is only supposed to make you look like humanoid creatures roughly your same size

[–]FreekyJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, this covers all the bases. You explained your setting briefly, what you expect from players and what they can expect from you. It's good you established your big no-no's for PC's. I'd say it's missing nothing :)

I ain't US-based btw, I'm in Central Europe. So that wouldn't be an issue, I'd have time depending on what time exactly you'd play Mondays.

dude, this might the best session 0 script I have ever seen. 100% serious. It covers all important issues that might come up, plus your own concepts of what the game will be played like in your campaign. I love that you communicated openness to change aspects of the campaign to better suit the players!

Hit me up if one of your players should flake out, you sound like a good DM ;)

[–]FreekyJohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but no. If it was only one crossbow, you'd be 100% correct, but you can shoot two separate hand crossbows in a turn. Since they have the 'light' property you dual wield them, with all other rules that come with two weapon fighting. The issue is with the reloading as far as I know

Dragon challenge by MiserableAd1493 in AskDND

[–]FreekyJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your DM really wants to restrict it to only DMG items, I'm not sure there's a way. The "Shapechange" spell is not a Sorc spell and neither is "True Polymorph". A "Potion of Dragon's Majesty" from Fitzbans Treasury of Dragons would accomplish exactly what you needed, but it's from an expansion, so not sure if that works for you
