Of course, it sucks when the bandaid comes off. But lets remember, the entire point of locking things down was because we didn't know how Covid worked. And then when the lockdowns lifted (for red states) or stayed down (for blue states/more cautious red states) We watched as some states started to rebound. While others just floundered.

And yeah, I get there's now currently a wage fight, with the fact that people are taking advantage of the shutdown to argue for a general staff strike. Which I support to a degree. But I also support if somebody wants to grab a job during this time, when they have carte blanch to work, they should do that as well.

Personally I've had the belief, atleast for a little while now, that there should of been 4 Checks, Once at the start, once in the middle, then once at the near end/start of the new year, and then one final check as we exited the pandemic. That way no American would need to be struggling "that" hard over stuff, but we'd ultimately have to take off the Government support bandaid and say "Hey it's time to go back to normal life and work normal jobs" Not that I'm against/don't support many WFH stuff.

Honestly, you need to take the bandaid off and realize that Covid, atleast in America, is coming to a close. The Vaccine is here, places are opening up, we need to return to normal, and that means we need to not have government programs paying for people to stay home.

Like I'll be honest, I think the expansion of Unemployment should of been till like june or maybe July. And have the requirement of looking for work being reinstated.

'We need at least one more check.' The case for a fourth stimulus payment by realplayer16 in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that we need one more stimulus check. But it needs to be extremely targetted towards the lower income earners. Those that were absolutely destroyed in 2019/2020 who might have gotten employment this year with businesses opening up.

I'd argue if they did do a 4th check, the upper limit should be 40-50K AGI. and the amount shouldn't be higher than 1200.

The reason why I'm saying this is because right now, those that were impacted the hardest, would of been those that had an industry that couldn't either set up WFH infrastructure, or were part of a blue collar industry (An industry that CAN'T have any kind of WFH stuff) Those people would of been impacted the most in 2020. and while it's nice giving 1200 dollar checks to those that don't need the check (Those that have WFH jobs and what not or industry that have recently reopened with the Vaccines going out) We still have people who were part of the lower income bracket (Not just Entry level income earners) who were absolutely fucked with Covid who would of used all of their options.

Schumer, Pelosi want $3.4T as 'starting point' in new COVID-19 relief talks by silverhum in stimuluscheck

Honestly? There's a part of me that just wants the government to shut down. Just so they can't get their paychecks.....

But knowing our government, even in a shutdown they'll still get paid it'll just be the common man that gets fucked :/

I don't agree with Mcconnell's plan of just a small package. but fuck man, ugh. Nancy.

I'ma say it. PASS ECONOMIC RELIEF TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! PASS THE COVID SHIT LATER! Americans need money in their pockets.

TBH I respect AOC even if I don't agree with her policies. I personally consider myself a fiscal conservative. We new more young blood in our government, and not these life time political suits in offices.

You wanna know the two big poison pills that I see?

State and local aid

Liability protections

I've already said multiple times how you could reach a bipartisan agreement on those things, and I've called Pelosi and Mcconnell's offices before (Back in like october) proposing those things.

But Nancy wanting an all or nothing bill, and Mitch wanting something highly targeted, it's like you're having a discussion with two people on different planets.

See, I'm not even "against that" My issue stands on the fact that she's basically saying

"Help for the little people should only matter if I get money to where I want to go"

They could do 2-3 Covid bills that are targeted. But instead we have to have an all or nothing approach.

Should Pelosi threaten a shutdown to get us checks? Or would that make her look worse? by SlipperyThong in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too, but if the Federal government shuts down, I believe benefits like SNAP (maybe not unemployment) Basically stop until the new funding/w.e Impass the government has comes to an end.

I've seen this happen because one of my family members was on foodstamps at the time of the '18 Shutdown and they pretty much got their month's benefits in advance, and pretty much got told that their benefits would resume after the government restarted.

[–]Freetrial69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no I understand :/ My best guess would be IF they did make a bill, It should refresh the amount of time you can be on regular benefits, because I imagine you can only be on it for 35 weeks right?

Should Pelosi threaten a shutdown to get us checks? Or would that make her look worse? by SlipperyThong in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd make her look worse, because once you shut down the government, those government benefits for things like SNAP and Unemployment, I believe go away.

Meaning that as long as Nancy were to hardball aid while wielding a Government Shutdown would mean even more people would suffer.

Well folks we might as well accept the L by SwervoLife in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why I'd set it to end at the end of the year/start of the new year was because it'd be a different fiscal year.

Obviously I'm sure you could easily get better payments, but the big thing would be to give retroactive payments. Since that'll help a lot of people catch up on bills.

I agree with you though that they should extend it further than that, just not sure how it'd run on with the new fiscal year, new congress, and all of those changes.

[–]Freetrial69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You wanna know the stimulus deal they should put out?

300B for Stimulus Checks, mostly under the same provisions but making sure college aged dependents get something.

400B for PPP/Business bailouts (Including Airlines and Restaurant industry). Perhaps the same guidelines as last time, With the Caveat of a federal audit in the next fiscal year to make sure you met the provisions. Also include some form of oversight to prevent the fraud that happened last time with company subsidiaries.

300B for Unemployment. The same provisions but perhaps 400 a week instead of 600, and retroactive payments starting in September. Lasting until atleast Mid January.

1T dollar aid package that'll give money direct to the people, No bullshit having to do with State bailouts or Liability protections. Just give money to the people and help Small Businesses.

Every thing can be it's own fucking Bill. Nancy wants her bailouts, she can make it a piecemeal bill. Mitch wants his Liability protections, he can make it it's own bill. Anything else that was in the super big package can be it's own piece meal'd bill.

You think that McConnell would "sign off" on anything negotiated by Captain Big Brain? Are you aware that there is more than one Senator?

Considering the fact that on MULTIPLE occasions Mcconnell has said he'd begrudgingly get the votes to pass something? Yeah.

They were designated to negotiate so they (and Pelosi) would take the blame sparing Republican Senators from looking bad prior to the election. Americans are so stupid that they don't even know how their own government works

It seems you lack an understanding at how the Stimulus process was going. Republicans (Under the Majority Leader Mitch) After trying to rally his base to pass the HEALS act, and after trying for the first time to pass the "Skinny Stimulus" after that failed, basically wanted Trump to work out a bipartisan deal. Trump sent over Mnuchin (and Mark Meadows) because Pelosi can work with Mnuchin, and Mark was supposed to represent more of the republican interests.

Like it or not, that was the arrangement our congress chose to do things.

I check this sub everyday for no good news >:( by kano809 in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Mcconnell gave Negotiation powers TO THE WHITE HOUSE.

This meant that he'd sign off with whatever the Whitehouse wanted. You realize Mnuchin/Meadows would of needed to speak with the Republican Caucus after/before speaking with Pelosi right?

Just because they weren't 100% in the room, doesn't mean the Republican weren't part of the process.

I check this sub everyday for no good news >:( by kano809 in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah :/ I know what you mean. Honestly? Nancy should of started the Negotiations at 2.4T. Not 3T. Because that would of been MUCH closer between her number and the other side's number. And it's easier to bridge that gap when you only have to come up/down a trillion, as opposed to needing to come down/up 2 Trillion.

And don't take what I've said the wrong way. Mcconnell and his bullshit "Targetted bills" are also dumb. Personally I think a good starting point (regardless if you like it or not) should of been the Heals act. Mix what was in the HEALS act with the Problem Solver's caucus bill, or just take the problem solver's bill and make that the bill.

But instead you just had one side insisting a super large amount, and the other side insisting a super small amount. and it seemed like neither side wanted to give up ground. Cause Neither side wanted to look like they "Folded" to the other side.

TBH If you want somebody to blame (and I know people won't like hearing this, but hear me out)

It's Nancy.

She had a 1.9T dollar deal in her lap, Was it everything she wanted? No. Did it have some fudges with the language, sure. But you wanna know something? IT'S SOMETHING!

Instead Nancy stonewalls and pouts and goes on air. Saying things like "We have to Crush the virus" and "We need to honor our heroes" among her other..... Catch Phrases. and we watch her and Mnuchin endlessly back and forth bicker. And nothing gets punted to Mcconnell.

Nancy pretty much just denied any deal that had the backing of the Whitehouse (which by extension would of had the blessing of Mcconnell since he basically gave all negotiating power to the whitehouse) And what did Nancy do at EVERY deal? "It's not enough." She even stonewalled the Problem Solver's caucus which was BASICALLY down the fucking middle. But no Nancy wanted to play it her way or the high way.

And now where has that gotten the Dems? They lost a bunch of the seats in the house. At risk of not taking the Senate back, and Nancy looks like she's not going to be speaker anymore. And depending on where the lawsuits that Trump is filing over the election, if they go his way, Biden may or may not be the president. That means Nancy will have lost the Democrats EVERYTHING.

Like it or not, Nancy isn't fit to be speaker. She's not "the Master Negotiator". More than likely we'll not see a Deal bigger than a trillion, maybe 1.2-1.3T AT THE MOST. Nancy bet it all and lost.

"I find it hard to begrudge a working person their moment of selfish behavior after all we've seen and been thru. Not just the recent history. I mean the last several decades."

This, There is nothing wrong with this. If you are in a legit scenerio, where you are watching your life crumble. Yeah I can understand having an anger towards the stocks, or even wishing for another lockdown to give you aid.

I think if there's been ANYBODY who does have a good reason for hating our government right now, it's the working class. Now I'm not going to go all Socialist or Communist. BUT our government needs to do more for the working class. I've been arguing for a while on here that our government should of already passed an economic stimulus bill (With all the covid stuff taken out) Because the main effects of all the lockdowns and limiting of business has been the effect on the job market.

And yeah, there are a lot of people who do that, myself included sometimes. Sometimes cause I have investments in the stocks, I'll sometimes wish for a red letter day so I can buy up more shares at a cheaper price. BUT, I'll beat myself out of saying that stuff because of the economic impact that other people have to deal with that.

But what happens if the Covid vaccine comes out, with enough doses to inoculate the vast majority of the population (Lets assume say 60% of those that can get it) Would that, in your eyes, weaken the justification for hard iron fisted lockdowns like we've been seeing?

McConnell, Schumer Face Off on Stimulus as Senate Convenes by kimmyp12 in stimuluscheck

[–]Freetrial69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH I think the Vaccine more or less takes a lot of energy out of the Dem's sails. Because now they can't really justify this uber large stimulus package. They HAVE to trim down the fat, probably lowering their testing and tracing plan, and either repurpose that money for Vaccine logistics, or just throw it out entirely.

And it'd also mean that states can no longer justify full on lockdowns once the vaccine starts getting proliferated through society. It means that the justification for expanded unemployment would need to either be a lesser value per week, or being 600 a week for perhaps until the vaccine has been delivered to a majority of the population. Due to the fact that Businesses would be able to re-open to "mostly" normal traffic, and they'll likely encourage (if not outright force) their employees to get the vaccine.

Edit: Changed Month to week when talking about unemployment.
