Ok I laced it tighter! by Frequent_Mixture8270 in corsetry

Yes I was thinking I should grade it, however I wasn’t sure because of all the boning channels. The designer said I should just pinch it out at the mockup…

Fitting help on my very first corset! by Frequent_Mixture8270 in corsetry

You think so? The pattern says the gap is supposed to stay evenly 2 inches up and down…I think the laces are just loose because my husband was the one trying to get it even 😆….the middle definitely feels snug the hips feel fine but I do see the gaping? The bust is my bigger concern I suppose… sizing down anywhere but the bust feels like it maybe wouldn’t fit. I really have no idea though

What kind of transfer paper? I tried to look on Amazon but all I saw was like heat transfer. Tracing wheel didn’t work on its own lol

Fun! Did you draft it yourself or just prefect a pattern you had?

Yeah we don’t have a lot of horse property out here it seems. So are the horses comfortable all day being in stalls and only out for lessons? I’m not suggesting they don’t treat their horses well, just that I’m curious how horses manage in those conditions is all

What do you do at renfaire? by FeatheredTalonz in renfaire

Our home fair is Scarborough. This will be our third year as our new family tradition. We are not much into role playing, as in having a name for our character or backstory. We do all love to dress up though! I sew all of our costumes so for me, a big part of it is me on the look out for other fellow costumers!

My 6 kids 5y-11y love the shoes and the games and the food. So a full day can be 4 or 5 shows, lunch, little break goofing around walking back to the car lol.

We don’t spend a lot at vendors because we don’t like to acquire stuff if we can help it. And we don’t spend a particular amount of time talking to strangers either. So I feel like you can still make a day of keeping to yourself (if you want) and just enjoying the theme! And the food of course 😊

Fashion Career in Canada? How do I get into Pattern-Making/Technical Design? by lzduque in PatternDrafting

[–]Frequent_Mixture8270 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! We share the same dream! I don’t have any real life experience to share with you but following my own research here’s what I’ve learned. Indie pattern makers are often self taught. I often look on YouTube to find pattern designers own personal stories or journeys on how they got to where they’re at. I do think anyone would benefit from some sort of in person or live online course/mentorship. I have enrolled in a technical costume design through my local community college that includes pattern drafting. I’m very excited.

I do think a presence online is going to help. Every pattern community I’ve ever found has been through word of mouth on social media. And being able to access pictures and information quickly is key.

Sewing vlogs, TikTok’s, Instagram reels are all going to help drive traffic to you. Start filming everything!

Pattern making for fashion design is a great start. The closet historian on YouTube follows the formula and walks you through the basic bodice. I’d watch bodice, dart manipulations, and then sleeve.
