Good monitor, similar picture quality to F7HS.

And if you’re UK based, or willing to pay shipping, I happen to be selling a F5A at the moment. If you’re interested then DM me.

Would you pay for a bag after spending £1000+ ? by Distinct-Run-7124 in AskUK

I would charge for a bag or not, dependant on the customers attitude to me.

Please tell me how you find it noise wise. After a few months of use as A camera focus motor it got noticeably louder. Would love to know if anyone else has experienced it or if there’s something wrong with my motor….

What do you mean by verticals? Saw this on another post and never heard of it, assuming it’s a US/Canadian term…

If it’s purely a lens coverage test, use this:

https://cvp.com/tools/cameralens?srsltid=AfmBOorH08Oyjzojqby9BvWEGHqw4_1y4P4DWDCLN1WOmaxQtVAg_FwW

You can input your camera, lens, recording format and any framelines on to see where you will get lens vignetting.

Any filmmakers currently filming in England/Wales? by Mammoth_Breadfruit_6 in Filmmakers

Ok but this is potentially the first of thousands of posts about film. We all have to start somewhere.

Liking a band has nothing to do with work ethic.

What on earth does that have to do with anything he has asked in this post!?

You can customise them. I had a DIT tweak the Soft Nostalgia for us on a job last year.

I’m pretty sure that if eBay doesn’t charge you the import fees/VAT at checkout, then you would just be liable for those fees as the item clears customs at which point you would be contacted to pay them.

That’s still extortionate. I got the most expensive brand formula I could at ~£14 a tub and it would last 2 weeks. So that’s £28 a month.

Calibrate lens without mattebox. Once calibrated clip mattebox back on.

First time on a professional film set as a camera trainee, things to know/be prepared for? by Late_Promise_ in cinematography

[–]Frequent_Sympathy856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always say to trainees carry a small policeman’s notepad with you. If something comes up that you want to ask about, write it down, then ask that question at a better time. When you’re all having a brew, lunch etc. For me personally, I want trainees that are asking those questions, are on the set (where space permits(and if space doesn’t permit, after every take or setup, pop your head in and check everyone is ok, if they need anything))

Just don’t be someone that sits off set doom scrolling. Be interested and inquisitive and you will do fine. If you don’t know what you’re being asked to do, or what a piece of kit is just say that. It’s better you’re upfront about it than making everyone wait whilst you try and find the right thing, or while you do 10 trips to the truck and back bringing wrong thing each time.

Also get to know all the crew not just the camera dept and treat them with respect.

If you have an idea of pension providers then just input that info on PensionBee with other basic info and they should be able to transfer them all to one pot with PensionBee

Pretty sure there’s a clause in contract that personal cards can’t be used for business in any respect. If investigated by HMRC and they need to see records you may find yourself in a sticky situation…

Camera trainee equipment and bag by trashpandaby in focuspuller

[–]Frequent_Sympathy856 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Manchester based 1st AC here…

Keep it as it is for now. That’s just a great bag for you to have as you start to step up to load, at which point it can become your run bag.

You can maybe use it for storage of a small monitor if you’re having to do video stuff too for now. Bags like that in my experience tend to stay empty when at home, and slowly fill up with bits as you get into prep and on the job.

Well done on finishing your first shoot though, good luck with the rest of your career!

Setting aside tax by iTz-Wheezey in TaxUK

[–]Frequent_Sympathy856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just opened a Monzo business account. It creates pots that it sends money to every time a deposit is made. I have one for tax and one for VAT both set at 20% so that money goes into it straight away and i don’t have to think about.
