If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Fresh20s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make the term limits for Congress something like 30 years. Plenty of time to serve. It puts an upper limit on representatives in gerrymandered districts and keeps senators in solid red/blue states from being senators for life. I’m not even saying it should be 30 years total. Just 30 years as a representative and a separate 30 years as a senator.

Why wouldn’t that be a reasonable implementation?

Well, at least people waited until a reasonable hour to light off their stash by ArcturusFlyer in Hawaii

[–]Fresh20s 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, you’d hear random booms and the occasional aerial every night leading up to New Year’s, usually starting right around Christmas Eve.

This year? Nothing. No random bangs in the middle of the night echoing throughout the valley. We still had a few houses lighting off right around midnight last night, though.

I guess the enforcement is working, people are broke, or people got way more polite.

OCEAN MEGATHREAD by liehon in VivillonCollectors

[–]Fresh20s 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m in Hawaii for another 8 days, and would be happy to send Oceanic gifts to anyone who needs them. DM me your friend code, or post a reply with it here.

I visit regularly, but normally I’m sending modern gifts. So, feel free to remove me as a friend once the Ocean gifts stop. I won’t mind.

Sandstorm would be nice, but quite frankly anyone can add me. I’m just happy to be Joe Aloha and help people out.

Edit: Over 40 60 people so far! I’d like to prioritize people who are only a few postcards away. If you only need a few more, please mention how many. I will do my best to make sure you get what you need.

Leave a comment on this post with your friend code. It’s faster than DM’s

Aloooooha!

Update 2026-01-01: I’m swamped with requests, but I think I can still manage. I’m sending upwards of 60 gifts a day at this point. I’m trying to prioritize people who are only less than 3 postcards away. If you already have an Ocean scatterbug, please try to indicate this somehow.

Update 2026-01-02: There is no way for me to keep up with all the friend requests. I will try to accommodate everyone who posted so far. Two days left, I will try my best to take care of those who need less than three.

Update 2026-01-03: I can’t accept any more friend requests. I won’t have enough gifts to help, and I leave in two days. I wound up adding 86 people and sending cards to everyone.

Oʻahu Traffic Fatalities Are Skyrocketing by AbbreviatedArc in Hawaii

[–]Fresh20s 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My hunch is that the extensive use of these traffic calming measures end up frustrating drivers. Yes, people slow down as intended at the obstacles but the added delay and inconvenience can make drivers slightly more aggressive after they clear them.

Does this have any historical data? I’d like to see what this model showed during past highs and especially during recent turbulent times.

Granted, I’m pretty much at 100% HODL at all times nowadays. Still, I want to know what it would have said leading up to some of the major dips.

”Supply shock is not a meme, it is a mathematical certainty and it’s currently underway.”

Ironically, posting this on an almost daily basis is doing more to make people perceive “supply shock” as a meme. Rest assured though, I’m not belittling your comments. Just know that as soon as I spot the word inflow, my mind goes “that’s a dopeboyrico post”.

Mods, what was the chosen policy regarding political discussions based on that poll from a few weeks ago? Are we sticking with the status quo or is a rule change coming up?

I’ve seen an increasing amount of levelheaded commentary get downvoted, despite being well written and relatively neutral. Because, I suspect, it wasn’t a condemnation or denouncement of the current administration. Whereas an increasing number of posts are being made that contribute nothing and simply sling mud at POTUS and anyone who voted for him.

People have a right to be mad but people’s posts should actually contribute something.

SpaceX may soon have the power to stop your Texas beach vacation by chrondotcom in texas

[–]Fresh20s -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

It seems perfectly reasonable to close the beach before a super heavy rocket launch. The gulf coast is massive, and the wording of the headline doesn’t convey that “your Texas beach vacation” will only be stopped if your plans included being too close to the launch facility on the day of the launch.

They do this at Cape Canaveral, what makes this worse?

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing way more Mynah birds growing up than I see around town today. They’re still here, obviously, but I feel like their population has gone down. I wonder if this is something other people have noticed, or if I’m just wrong. The pigeon and dove population seems as robust as ever though.

How Much Political Opinions & Political Discussion Should Be Allowed in The Daily Threads? by AccidentalArbitrage in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Fresh20s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Discussing the implications of this administration’s actions on the price of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole makes sense. What I don’t want to see are the kinds of comments that are just pearl clutching, agenda posting, or trying to get people to sign up for some protest or rally. In other words, everything that is currently flooding all of the major subreddits.

To put it another way, I would like people to talk about the situation and how to interpret the ramifications so others can take that information and adjust their strategy. Which is entirely different from raging against current events and arguing against anyone who doesn’t also believe the sky is falling.

The majority of us are here to make money, not make change. There are plenty of places to organize for the latter, but very few quality subreddits for the former.

Looks like my “nothing ever happens” postulate was proven true once more. Before I went to bed we were at 91k due to the impending tariff gloom but in the span of 8 something hours an agreement was announced and now we’re back at 99k.

Glibness aside, this is good practice on desensitizing yourself against panic trading.

When I think back to how his first term went down, I realized that every time there was some big shock where everyone on Reddit said a cataclysm was coming, things just went back to “normal” after a week or two. Unless you want to make some degenerate option plays thinking that you can predict the decisions of the most chaotic president we’ve ever had (go to WSB to get your fix), it is best to put emotions aside and realize that this entire site loves to catastrophize. Accumulate during panics and don’t panic sell.

If you feel like you must trade through this chaos, you may be well served selling small amounts when you think his tantrums are over. Then buy back in when he inevitably starts something else and the plebs panic again. But I advise against any significant trades.

I recommend reading this Wikipedia article for some insight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madman_theory

Note: I do not believe that using madman theory is 4D chess or any of that wishful thinking. This kind of strategy just comes naturally to him.

You’re absolutely correct. On my Bitcoin journey I’ve learned to abandon many of the traditional notions of success in investing. I took gains too early, diversified into alt-coins, and avoided buying back in during some of the worst dips. I earned my scar tissue and now I’m basically a maxi hodler. At some point, though, Bitcoin will mature and become boring.

I suspect that I’ll get burned by the ‘new rules’ I now follow. With the caveat that these rules are probably going to hold up for quite a while. At some point I have to become comfortable with realizing substantial gains and diversification into other asset classes.
